Because in the event he's on the DL with issues just after the allstar break, well, then I guess we had a world class closer at the front of the rotation after all. And who, currently on the roster, is "capable of closing"? I'm not UKMF but I will throw in my thoughts. Ondrusek, Marshall, and Bray could all close IMO. Masset is also capable when healthy and on his game.

He said he will go with close by committee because he doesn't think Marshall can go 3 or 4 days. I don't see why he can't name Marshall the closer and if it happens where he has 3 or 4 days in a row throw someone else out there to break it up. Just seems silly to me. I can't think of to many times where Coco had to go 4 days in a row. I'm sure it happened a few times but not enough to make me change my entire thought process.

March 29, 201214 yr Arroyo to the bullpen. If he only pitches an inning or two he might hit 91mph every now and then. I still don't see the big deal about warm up time. :idunno: If he's you closer and your up one or two in the 8th and your coming to bat. That's not ample time to warm up? What's he need a half hour? Who says a closer has to throw in the mid 90's?

If we've learned anything from CoCo, it's that having a closer who can't throw strikes is TERRIBLE.

And I can't disagree with the throwing strikes logic, how great is it to have a starter that can't throw strikes? If he can't throw them at the back end of the bullpen, he can't throw them for 7+innings either.
March 30, 201214 yr How many innings? I understand the desire to have him start. I hope if they make that decision that he's durable enough to take it. I just doubt he can.
