Thanks PP. GRC is not a flashy team, just hard nose defense, mental tuffness and team work. I will take Bopper Stenzel over any guard there is. He has many games this year and no turnovers. Not many PG can say that.

Tonight dead run in backcourt, threads needle ahead to teammate for layup. Not everybody can make that play, and we saw it over and again vs Campbell and Mason in the regional and then again here tonight - WOW!!!

Thanks so much Mustang, I see that you appreciate Bopper the way us GRC fans and coaching staff do.

 

Why he won POY in the 10th region. I will say it again, he does things that don't show up in the stats, but so valuable to the team. Just a all round player that makes GRC go. Put in games like Fatkin and Howard had tonight offensively, Vancleeve and Rogers defensively and that is what has made GRC so successful this year. A real team effort.

 

Sat next to some Highland fans today and coach Shields, very nice gentelmen.

GRC is tough and plays together. Fatkin was very impressive blocking shots and also showing he can go inside or out on offense. Bopper's ability to play smart with two fouls in the first half was as impressive as his passing.

I also thought a big key to the game was the pressure GRC put on Apollo's guards. It must have been a scouting report game plan by Coach Humphrey because they were asking for 5 second calls from the tip, knowing they could get to the PG.

A nice win for our 10th region representative. Congrats and good luck.

If I am not mistaken, I am thinking my friend Clyde is speaking about the quality of the games being played today and not so much this game! The games I saw played today on I-High had far too many missed FT's, poor shooting from the floor and far too many TO's to be considered good quality HS basketball for sweet sixteen games

Taylor Howard is one of the most underrated player in the state.

 

Don't know how many noticed but happened right in front of our seats. Taylor lost his mouthpiece late in the game while getting pressured by an Apollo player. GRC was in slowdown so he passes to his release man and then a few seconds later gets the ball back. He dribbles to his mouthpiece, most players would ignore it or kick it out of bounds. Not Taylor he picks it up while having the ball pops it into his mouth and keeps on dribbling. Coach Humphrey called a few a timeout a few seconds later and he runs to the bench with a big smile and the GRC coaches and players are slapping him and laughing. Great moment!

Clark County was impressive. It was my first time seeing the Cardinals this season and they really get after it defensively. Adam Fatkin scored 21 points and can play somewhere, while Bopper Stenzel is the point guard and a solid, solid player. He didn’t have to do a lot – 4 points, 4 assists – in the win over Apollo but he’s solid.

 

• Apollo has a good young player in sophomore Hunter Shelton. He only had four points but you can see the skill. He just needs some strength and that will come. Hunter Bivin is an All-State lineman in football and he;s pretty good in hoops also. He can move for a big man. He had six points and three rebounds because of foul trouble he only played 18 minutes in the game.
