Linsanity?

Recommended Posts

Anyone anyone? Knicks are free falling again. Losing 8 of the last 11. Is Melo the real problem?

In those games Lin is averaging 18 PPG 8 AST 3.5 RB 5 TO

69-166 from the field - 41.5%

13-37 from 3 - 35%

Knicks sit in 8th place just 1 game ahead of Milwaukee and Cleveland.

You cannot help but wonder. Has Melo been back for those 11 games? NY also had an easy run of games. From here on they have the toughest schedule. While not great numbers, Lin has not been terrible as many thought he would fall back to below average.

Here's the way I see it......

The Knicks have two problems, but can solve both by removing one. Either you get rid of D'Antoni and his system or you get rid of Melo. Obviously the two do not go well together. It's no coincidence that after finding a suitable PG the Knicks started to flow offensively and win ball games. It's also no coincidence that once Melo came back things have been going back down hill. So either the Knicks are going to have to say we liked what we saw when D'Antoni's offense was firing and we want to go forward with Jeremy Lin. OR, they are going to have to say it's never going to work with Melo in D'Antoni's system and bring in another coach and another system that will be more suitable for Melo's Iso type game. Then if you go that direction Jeremy Lin is pretty much going to be useless to you.

We know the answer to that question - in the NBA the star players win over the coach every time. Bye bye D'Antoni.

The issues with the Knicks are numerous. The do not defend at all, so on nights where they are up and down offensively they have no fall back. They just get blown out. Lin and Amare are such defensive liabilities.

Melo never initiates the pick and roll and, therefore, is rendered either useless or a hindrance in the offense. You also can not have Amare and Tyson in effective offensive roles when they are on the floor at the same time because they both do the exact same thing. The Knicks need to start a Novak, but that would be a blow to the guy that sits.

The parts sound nice in theory but these pieces do not fit well in practice. The Kincks need to think about how to acquire pieces that fit better. How about a 3 team deal where the Magic get Melo, the Knicks get Pau and the Lakers get Howard?

It's not Melo or Amare's(why does Amare get a pass?) fault, it's the schedules fault. Linsanity had an amazing run beating the Raptors(at the buzzer), Kings, Timberwolves, Hornets, Wizards...yada, yada, yada. Now that they are playing the Bulls, Heat, Hawks...they are getting beat. Knicks are an average team. Period.

I surely don't give Amare a pass. I have been blasting him for years as a fraud.

If you are a good team, you should be able to beat other good teams. I do not blame the schedule, the Knicks simply are not that good.

I am not giving any Knick player a pass. They have ALL stunk for the last couple of weeks since the Cavs game.

They will fire D'Antoni and then let the Phil Jackson rumors begin!
