If the students had done it after the national anthem, no problem.

BUT they waited till after their school had beaten a school with large number of hispanics. Hispanics that are American citizens.

The head coach even came out and told the student body to stop.

Yes, it was being used in a racial, inappropriate manner and should be addressed by administration.

Murray State fans would do it all the time when St. Mary's came to town. About 75% of their players - or so it seems - is from outside the US.

Were the kids of the other team US citizens? Probably...I see nothing wrong with it.

Go ahead and throw me in the politically incorrect and minority, but its how I feel.

If they are american citizens then why would they be offenced by this.

I agree with you.

Because the implication is that they're not, which if I were in their shoes, I would find MORE offensive.

Then they should go back to their home (where ever that is.)

Then they should go back to their home (where ever that is.)

The implication is that one team is full of Americans and the other is not. Say those kids on that losing team are American citizens. Someone telling me I'm not just because I have a darker complexion and a last name like Castellano would infuriate me.

I've done the "USA" chant on more occasions than I can count. Context is important.

Exactly. This isn't college where the players are adults and, many times, kids do come from different countries. This is high school, IN TEXAS, where immigration is an incredibly volatile subject. Most important was intent. They didn't chant this out of national pride. They chanted this to degrade the athletes on the other team.

But if they are american citizens how is it degrading?

But if they are american citizens how is it degrading?

Context: our team is full of real Americans and your team isn't.

But if they are american citizens how is it degrading?

You can't possibly be this naive.

Heres a second news story on this. Note at the end it says some students chanting USA USA were hispanic as well.

VERY inappropriate in this context. To say "what's the problem, they are USA citizens" is silly. If this were an all-star game with members of both teams playing a team from Canada, then chant it loud and proud!, ortherwise it's racist city.
