Other than the market what is appealing about the Knicks job?

 

The market is a big part of it. Two superstars in Melo & Amare also make it appealing.

The interview I saw was the one done literally at the airport--like outside the team plane. He flatly denied it. I'll find the interview.

 

That's the same one I'm referring to as well.

Unlike some of the posters above, I don't think New Jersey is a lousy job. They're moving to Brooklyn & have a Russian billionaire owner. They have Deron Williams & Brook Lopez & will undoubtedly be able to recruit more talent with the money, market, & new arena.

 

Although the Nets are dismal now, I'd say the New Jersey coaching job is one of the better jobs in the NBA. Obviously it is a step down from the Lakers, Knicks, Heat (currently), Chicago, and Celtics, but I can't think of too many more franchises that would be better to work for in the near future.

 

Williams will be gone by the end of the year if they don't get Howard.

Did he really? I watched that interview and seem to remember thinking afterwards that he would come to Kentucky if Kentucky offered him a job. He gave a few routine answers but never flat out denied his interest in the Kentucky job, from what I recall.

I agree that most jobs he'd be stupid to try, but those two would be very appealing. And I could see either of the opening up after this year.

 

The Heat job won't be open. You don't fire a coach for winning a world championship. And no, I don't see him leaving UK for the Knicks or any job in the NBA. Like I said, he'd be stupid. Ask Pitino. He thought the Celtic job would be better than having perennial title chasing teams at UK. How'd that turn out? And truthfully, outside of the Celtics and Lakers there aren't any more prestigious jobs in the NBA.

They won't. Things are going fine with Spoelstra.

The Heat have set themselves up where anything short of a title is a disappointment. If one doesn't come this year then I think there could be some heat on Spoelstra.

Something else I forgot...when he did his introductory presser @ UK, I think that very same female reporter called Cal on the carpet. She asked him about the comments he made just a few days prior. He danced around it, saying something like, "Did I say that?"

I think the heat will fall more on LeBron and Wade than Spoelstra unless he makes some boneheaded decisions that cost them the title.

I do believe that Cal genuinely cares about his players and doing what's best for them. But, he also cares about his bank account or even more important, his family cares about his bank account. Finally, you don't get to Cal's level if you aren't hyper-competitive, I'm sure failing like he did in his previous stint in the NBA didn't leave a good taste in his mouth. As much as I pesonally believe Cal is a better college coach, I'm not sure if in private Cal wouldn't mind a shot at NBA redemption.

 

Either way, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the ride for now. Cross that bridge if and when we get there.
