I've been hearing that there are discussions taking place with Jake Thelen. He has a heck of a resume, as well as being a Cov Cath hoops alum, and a third generation Colonel. I'd love to see that hire happen, and I think that would honestly be the best case scenario for the hire from a program and community standpoint, both, no doubt. Definitely seems like money would be the big challenge to make that happen. But if the money is hypothetically there to work out the retirement debacle for Sullivan, then I would imagine the money is there to figure out things with Thelen.

Those first 4 or 5 weeks are just bananas...

I haven't seen him in person since the end of this past varsity football season, so as a rising sophomore he's definitely at the point in life where he could be growing more or less exponentially, but his Twitter bio lists him at 6'4" and 230lbs. That's not too far off from where I would have guessed he was at the end of the football season.

Sophomore TE/DL Spencer Clukey received an offer today from Kentucky.

That picture was from August 2004, so that would have put Coach Ray at 58 years old, Coach Yeagle would have been a few weeks shy of 44 years old, and Coach Mueller would have been right around 47 years old.

Ahhh, gotcha. I had my timeline mixed up a little bit. I was thinking there was a hiatus at Beechwood where Coach Burnett stepped in as head coach before Yeagle came back.

Beechwood's girls won the 1A Cross Country title and the 1A Outdoor Track & Field title, but finished 2nd in the 1A Indoor Track & Field state meet, losing to Green County by a single point.

I've had a handful of folks tell me that they heard Coach Sullivan was interviewed. I can't say for sure whether or not that much is true, but to me, it sure doesn't seem likely to have happened based on the initial word following the announcement that Coach Ruthsatz had stepped down. The rumors I've heard all said that Cov Cath would have to "buy out" the remainder of Coach Sullivan's retirement from KTRS. Your wording of "compensate him" would probably be a more accurate way of trying to describe whatever that plan would be, but I don't see that happening. Frankly, I don't see the Diocese being okay with any of their schools trying to set the precedent of paying to compensate someone for their retirement losses from a previous job. Not to mention that Cov Cath is a high school - where education is, and should be, the priority above sports. Would they pay to "buy out" a math teacher's retirement in order to get them on staff? I don't see that happening in a million years. Why on earth would they extend that consideration to a coach. This is a high school athletic department that we're talking about, not a Power Five college.

His hiatus took place and then he came back to Beechwood for 2 or 3 years before he stepped down at Beechwood. Then he went straight to Lloyd for the next season, but stepped down there after I want to say like 3 games.

Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field. The inaugural season of KHSAA's Indoor Track & Field created an unofficial KHSAA Triple Crown in the 2023-2024 school year. Covington Catholic became the first-ever school to complete it by winning the Boys 2A Cross Country title in the fall of 2023, and then winning both the Boys 2024 Indoor Track & Field title and the Boys 2024 Outdoor Track & Field in the spring.

My understanding is that Isaac Mason's dad is on the football coaching staff at Campbell County High School now, so I would assume that's where Isaac is playing his senior year. I was also told that the Cov Cath coaching staff has added on Tyler Morgan as linebackers coach. He played offensive and defensive line at Ryle under Bryson Warner, and was the linebackers coach at Ryle last year. Tanner Morgan's older brother, I believe.

From Cov Cath Football Alumni on social media: The Covington Catholic football community would like to offer our sincerest condolences to Beechwood High School, the football team, their football alums, and to the family and friends of Coach Mike Yeagle. Coach Yeagle was a coaching giant in high school football, and a competitor of the highest caliber. As a player, Mike was 1-0 against the Cov Cath. The Tigers defeated the Colonels 8-6 in his senior year at Beechwood - the first time the two football programs ever faced off. As head coach, Yeagle's Beechwood teams were 9-4 against Cov Cath. With our schools' close proximity and strong sense of rivalry, there was still a strong bond between Covington Catholic and Beechwood all throughout the time Coach Yeagle was at the helm of the Tigers football program. In that era, Covington Catholic was yet to have lights for their football stadium so the Colonels played all of their home games on Saturday afternoons. With all of Beechwood's home games played on Friday nights, it wasn't an uncommon thing to see a small army of boys in their older brothers' Cov Cath t-shirts riding their bikes to watch Yeagle's Tigers play in Fort Mitchell on Saturday nights, and then the following afternoon in Park Hills you would see a similar crowd of kids decked out in Beechwood gear watching the Colonels play. Most Colonel fans were cheering for the Tigers every week of the season except for "Beechwood Week," and most Beechwood fans had the same regard for the Colonels. Much of that attitude of good sportsmanship accompanied by healthy rivalry was garnered thanks to Coach Mike Yeagle, Coach Lynn Ray, and their respective coaching staffs. Godspeed, Coach Yeagle. And to the Colonel Fans, please join us in offering our prayers for the repose of his soul.

Coach Yeagle, a Beechwood alum, himself, spent 15 years as the Tigers' head football coach. Yeagle's teams accrued 8 titles, 2 runners-up, and win/loss of 183-27 (87.1% winning). Under Yeagle, Beechwood's program also became the 1st football program in state history to win 4-straight championships.

One of the best head coaches in the history of Kentucky high school football. Rest in peace, Coach.

Man I love the thought of a Kentucky football team flying all the way out to California and wooping up on them. Woodford will be losing time, (aka, kicking off what feels like 3 hours later than normal). Last year Warren came and played here, which would have been gaining 3 hours, and I feel like is an easier adjustment to make on the short term. But Woodford won 40-39 last year. This could be a definite challenge to head to their home field and repeat the win.
