33rd District Tournament
I was actually fairly impressed with Ryle's infield'. IMO its a good idea to make this change of venue. Also there are a group of parents and coaches that have put alot of time in Conner's field! This effort will continue with NO HELP FROM THE COUNTY! Its an embarrassment how slow the response time has been trying to get things done, and its a shame that willing participants can't continue making progress without tip-toeing around incompetent higher-ups!

33rd District Tournament
After solidifying a spot in the region it's not considered backing in! It's no different than backing off your final pool game in summer ball after you have won your way into the following days tourney. Obviously you give up bragging rights in winning the district! Theres no way I would blow out my best pitchers and ruin my chances in the region! Unless of course you're blessed with a deep staff!

33rd District Tournament
It's less than 300ft. to the fence in right field at Conner and although the ball was hit on the meat of the bat, a 30 to 40 mile an hour wind gust took a normally routine fly ball and made it an adventure to catch! Ultimately the ball did touch the fielders glove without having to leave his feet!

33rd District Tournament
If I'm not mistaken, If Conner wins their first district game they are guaranteed a regional berth. So beating Ryle AGAIN would only be a bonus! Making the region is priority!

Boone 9 Conner 5
Conner's bat's go cold along with the weather! Thomas Noll gives up 4 earned runs in 4 innings. Ronald Cotton hits a 3 run homerun in the 5th inning to put this one out of reach for the Courgars! Boone put up 11 hits throughout the game on only one Conner error, but a couple of mental errors sure didn't help matters! Conner left 9 men on base, an had the bases loaded twice! Jake Ryle had 2 rbi, but Conner just couldn't get a timely hit!

8th. Graders playing Varsity
This is a great topic, and I must agree with Cooperstown on several points! The maturity factor in my opinion, may be the biggest factor. I believe it is different for each individual athlete and it is up to the parents to decide. James Jones is definitely a product of a small school that doesn't have alot of players to draw from, but in his case atleast physically, he could compete with most varsity players in NKY as a freshman! My own son has been fortunate enough to play varsity sports as a under classmen and my greatest worry as a parent has been the fact of him being exposed to social situations a younger person may not normally be exsposed to. Riding in cars with older teens, etc. As long as you monitor those situations and they respond positively to the physical challenges I think it will only make them better athletes!

Conner 11 Cavalry 0
In the original thread i did'nt make any reference to Conner being a top team. I was merely trying to post what happened in the game against Cavalry. I agree that playing a soft schedule in any sport can hurt you in the long run, but you could also look at it like college teams playing cup cakes early in their season. It allows you a chance, as a coach to assess the team. As for padding stats, that's not the case here. I believe this gives your players confidence and a chance to refine both their batting and fielding mechanics. It is up to the head coach after a game like this to make sure his team does'nt have a false sense of accomplishment!

Campbell Co. 5 Conner 4
My records show Woodruff did well but in 5 innings, not six. Estes gave up 3 runs in the 6th inning to tie the game at 4 and then got the win in the 7th. Congrats to Woodruff, he was every bit the player I heard he was. Offensive contributors for Conner, Gill- 2B 2RBI, Vargo-2B 1R, E.Thomas- 1R 1RBI, Pugh-2R

Jeffersonville 9 Conner 2
Jeffersonville started a solid Senior pitcher, on a junior dominated club. Conner did not help themselves in this one by kicking the ball around a couple of times against a good team. But all in all the Cougars were just outplayed on both sides of the ball. The Cougars continue to show signs of a good defense and above average hitting. Pitching seems to be a little inconsistent. Will Shuttleworth could not find his rhythm in his season opener but could greatly help the Cougar staff once he gets on line. Sophomore CF-Nick West, got his second and third hit of the season with 2 1b. Osuna 2 1b, Pugh 1 1b, 1 RBI. Freshman, John Roberts played a solid SS and gets his 2nd RBI of the season.

Conner 8 St. Henry 2
Sophomore pitcher Jody Hubbard had his first varsity start with a solid five inning performance giving up 2 ER, 3K, 2BB on 55 pitches. The Cougar defense continued to play well only committing 1 error. Dave Osuna continued his hitting terror carrying his .600 batting average through this game. Osuna hit for 1 1b, 1 2b and 2 RBI. Austin Pugh, 2 bb, 2 1b, 2R. Other contributors were Vargo 2R and Dahlenburg 1 RBI.

Conner 13 Villa 0
Conner's bats awakened in this contest. Exploding for 13 runs on 12 hits in just 5 innings. jr. Thomas Noll pitched 5 perfect innings allowing no base runners. The Cougar defense continues to play well, anchored by third baseman Chris Vargo. Offensively, the Cougars expoded with 4 homeruns. Vargo started the charge with his first homerun of the year. Only to follow it up with another homerun in his next at bat:fire: sr. Dave Osuna also added a homerun and a double. jr. Matt Mueller added the last bomb for his first varsity homerun. Other contributing hitters were Kyle Hathorn 2 1b, 1 bb. Sophomore Austin Pugh 2 1b, and a sac fly:thumb: Now hoefully the bats will not turn cold along with the weather.

Lloyd 4 Conner 2
Conner was held to only five hits on some fine pitching by Lloyds staff. Although, Conner did threaten several times leaving eight men on base. Dave Osuna hit a double and was later knocked in by Josh Dahlenburg's sac fly.Gill added a double later,Pugh 1b.All in all Conner played pretty good defense, but could not get a timely hit.:irked:
