By Todd Martin Standout basketball player Darryl Hicks appears headed back to Shelby County High School. Hicks, a freshman, had enrolled at North Oldham High School this year for better educational opportunities, according to his father Darryl Hicks Sr. But several media outlets reported Thursday that home sickness caused him to withdraw from North Oldham and return to his family in Shelby County. Shelby County has been on fall break this week, so Monday would be the first day he would be able to enroll at SCHS. Darryl Hicks Sr. did not return phone calls from The Sentinel-News. A 6-foot-2 guard/forward, Hicks is considered by many to be the top freshman in the state, and one of the top players in the country. As an eighth-grader at West Middle last year, Hicks played varsity basketball for the Rockets and primarily came off the bench to average 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds. Hicks burst onto the scene nationally this summer with his AAU team The 'Ville. Hicks helped lead the squad to the adidas Super 64 14s tournament title in Las Vegas in July, and he was named to the all-star team at the Fab Frosh Camp for the top 150 players in the class of 2013 at the University of Kentucky. Despite the fact that Hicks had enrolled at North Oldham, he should be eligible this season for Shelby County. The KHSAA rules state that a player has not established eligibility at a school until he enrolls and plays a varsity sport. Hicks has played a sport at SCHS, but while enrolled at North Oldham, he has yet to play a sport. The Rockets' basketball team will begin practice on Oct. 15, the first day teams are allowed to have formal practices. While the team has been conditioning, SCHS Coach Mike Clark said the first three days of practice will be tryouts. Clark was on vacation this week and wasn't aware of Hicks possible enrollment. He had no comment on Hicks or the possibility of his enrollment at SCHS. Hicks is drawing attention from a growing number of Division I schools including Indiana, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Xavier, Ohio State, Missouri and Butler.

Well, we shall see on Wednesday of this week were Hicks will go. School starts on Wednesday for No Oldham and Thursday for Shelby. So everyone still agrees he will enroll at No Oldham?

Shelby is loaded this year. Nearly all returning starters. And yes Shelby seems to have the team to make some noise. Also playing in the King of Bluegrass. And favorites to win 8th region. The rumor I heard was that Hicks played in some AAU games and no coaches from Shelby attended. And he was upset and possible No Oldham coaches attended and perhaps talked him into the transfer. And he would actually be living with a coach on No Oldhams staff.

Has anyone heard about Darryl Hicks possible transfer to North Oldham this coming school year? And playing for NO Oldham.
