Ok, I had a meeting so I didn't go. I heard the score at the end of the 3rd and St. Pat was up by like 15 or something? Then, when I got in my car to go home it was the 4th, St. Pat was down by 8, Nick Anderson got a technical and Lee Gallenstein went down injured and left the game. Somebody wanna tell me what happened?:confused:

Bracken Co. 7th is a good team. I saw them a couple of weeks ago and they're pretty impressive.

Voted to post list of names. Seems kinder than the option of having the announcement made in front of the whole group. Would be nice if the coach was available later to tell the ones who wanted to know why they were cut what they could improve upon for the future. I thought personal meetings would be time consuming and also sort of awkward. This isn't something I've put a great deal of thought into because my kid's school doesn't hold tryouts for anything beyond the academic teams and school plays;)

From all the accounts I have heard or read, these young gentlemen are to be commended for the effort they have put forth this season. :thumb: I know they had a youth program going down through the elementary grades last year; did they do that again this year?

The tournament was held at Augusta, whose staff and volunteers are to be complimented for being so well-organized and hospitable. The ORVC consists of Augusta, Bracken, Deming, Fleming, Lakeside Christian(Rowan), Nicholas and St. Patrick.

I agree, John Chamberlain is a good referee. I think he's very fair, and he really seems to enjoy doing it.

jeez... Once again, just using an example to illustrate a point that some coaches, teachers, administrators, or whatever might be willing to stay at the same place for 79 years, others only 1 or 2 years. I liked Tim Sullivan's style and enthusiasm. And at the time, it seemed like he was pretty much welcomed with open arms down there. Maybe not. You know what? On further reflection, maybe St. Pat is a horrible place full of horrible people. Maybe they should just send everyone home and padlock the doors. At the very least, I think I'll yank my kids out of there tomorrow. I have truly been blind all these years. Thanks for enlightening me!

Yes, it should be important. But on the flip side, what if a coach (like Mr. Ormes, for example) decided that he wanted to quit? Do you think anything would have stopped him?? Would we be wringing our hands and condemning him for his lack of loyalty if he did? No, you don't have to stick around - but nobody is obligated to keep you forever, either. Does anybody remember the boys' varsity coach we had between Lex Turner and Jason Hinson? If you don't, I can understand why; as he was only there for about 3 seconds before he "transferred" to the County. He didn't stick around there too long, either... Like ladiesbballcoach said, this loyalty thing swings both ways.

I will agree it all sounded pretty bizarre in the Ledger article. I only brought up the other names to help make the point. I wish we didn't expect these kind of things from ANY school, parochial or not. About all the secret meetings, unhappy players, etc. Where is this coming from because I hadn't heard any of it. Do you think it's from a good source or is it just rumors? Just curious. And back to an earlier post, could somebody remind me who Ron Reule was? His name is ringing a bell, but I'm drawing a blank... How old was he? Did he have a student at the school? Thanks.

Wow. Sadly, this has gone from being about saying goodbye to Jerry Ormes to totally trashing Elaine Douglas, Father William Hinds, Principal Kirry and St. Patrick's school. First, I have always liked Jerry Ormes and I think he's done alot of good during his time at St. Patrick. I can think of some reasons why the school might want a change in coaching, but out of respect and because it's over and done, I won't mention them. As to Elaine Douglas, does anyone here know for a fact that she's even interested in this job? I don't know, but I can tell you that if she is the school would be 7 kinds of crazy NOT to hire her. I've known her for a long time; my daughter currently plays for her and I can tell you firsthand that she has forgotten more about basketball than most of her critics will have ever known. She and her husband have devoted an incredible amount of time and effort to the girls basketball program at St. Patrick. She inspires her players to give their best effort, constantly teaches them, keeps track of their academic performance and generally cares about them as individuals. In my opinion any school would be lucky to have a coach like her. Why drag her into all the mudslinging? What coaching experience does she have? And Mr. Kirry is gutless, classless and knows nothing about athletics? What do you know about him? I haven't seen him to be any of these things in the short time he's been here. He is an administrator, and like all people in his position has to make difficult decisions that don't always please 100% of all people. I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but all the name calling sounds a little anti-Catholic. Would you want people speaking about your clergyman this way? In his dealings with St. Augustine and St. Michael I have always heard that he is very upfront about not wanting to take current students away. It is about the students who want to attend Catholic high school but cannot do so in their own parish. He's not perfect, but who is? Tim Moore? Robin Kelsch? Any of us here? Anyway, IMO coaches are probably like dead fish and houseguests - It's best not to keep them around too long... Otherwise, it starts being more about them, less so about the team. And just a thought: it's likely that a great many coaches(on every level) who leave their position probably do so under the same circumstances. It's just that most of them don't choose to air the dirty laundry in such a public fashion. Oh, and before I forget... Thanks for your years of service Mr. Ormes, and good luck in all of your future endeavors.
