  1. A perfect end to their miracle season - SK wins another shocker for the state championship!! Go Pioneers!
  2. And by gosh I'm making the same call for when they play for the state championship!! The bigger the underdog, the better SK seems to play. Great job, Pioneers! Bring home some hardware to NKY!!!
  3. I have to agree somewhat that the sentence does seem awfully tough. Yes, it was kidnapping under the legal definition of the crime, but when most of us hear "kidnapping", we generally think of a far more serious crime than holding someone against their will in a hotel room for a few minutes. As far as the armed robbery charge, OJ did not bring a gun to the room, though he did ask others to do so. Frankly, I hold them more accountable for this charge than OJ. I am not an OJ supporter - in fact, the guy is human waste. He broke laws here and should absolutely be punished, but my impression is that he is also now paying for murders for which he was previously acquitted.
  4. Since I doubt whether any of us here on BGP know Plexithug personally, I hardly find it unreasonable to be forming a personal opinion of him based on the constant stories we have heard about him in the media over the years. Does it give a complete picture of the "true" Plexithug? No. But of course you also don't know that the "true" picture of Plexithug is actually not far worse than these public stories. And, BTW, there have also been several of his teammates that have not supported Plexithug's actions and behavior.
  5. Hugely agree with your last point. And most of your post, for the matter. I would disagree on the Kues/West situation, but that's kind of like asking someone if they want a million dollars or a million and one dollars. Win/win all the way around. The only thing I disagree with to some extent is the comment regarding stats. I'll agree that they aren't the absolute and only measuring stick, but when determining who performed the best at each position for that particular season, they mean just about everything. If you're trying to determine who might ultimately be the best player, they mean slightly less because of situations we've already mentioned - injuries, not getting playing time at a certain position, competition levels, type of offense they play on, etc.. But stats at least help make the process somewhat less subjective.
  6. Fair enough. I'll back off that one. I kind of forgot about CCH's Ohio games (Cardinal Mooney and Elder) - which are admittedly pretty tough games to forget about.
  7. Going to be a lot of varying opinions on these overall, but: I'm not sure how anyone could make the case that Kues provides MORE leadership and better decisions than West or Guidugli. Certainly not West. He is the heart of the Conner team and (my opinion, of course) the clearcut #1 QB in NKY. Engelmon not being on the WR list is a terrible oversight. With respect to Brock, his numbers simply aren't close and the fact that he's a great return man shouldn't affect the decision in naming the best WR's, a position he didn't even play for half the season. Same goes for Daniels - not saying he's not a very good player and didn't do other good things offensively, but Brake and Roller were the clearcut top TE's in NKY and their stats prove that. You start sticking kids into certain spots simply because you want to "recognize them" and it unfairly penalizes other deserving kids. Heck, look at Ricky Buckler from Bellevue - pretty darn good back, right? But he's not Simpson, or Qauinoo, or Kelly, or Tiepel and therefore can't be included because they are all better at that position. Would it be right to stick his name at WR and take out Van Sant simply because you want to recognize him somehow, knowing that Van Sant was already being recognized on defense? At the end of the day, these picks - much like the NFL's Pro Bowl selections - should represent the best players based on their performance and production during the season. Not that they could have had better stats if they weren't injured, or didn't play multiple positions, or played on a team that throws more, etc.. If you're going to take all that stuff into consideration, then the entire process becomes so subjective as to be pointless.
  8. Sure, if it's a top 10 list. It's not as if these teams were horrific or anything.
  9. Ryle beat Dixie head-to-head late in the season. Close game, but Ryle won nonetheless. Ryle's losses at the end were to very good teams - Fern Creek, Boone, and Henry Clay (who BGP predicted to go to the championship game). I just don't consider that "staggering across the finish line." There schedule strength also matched CCH's. And, just my opinion of course, but I don't think CCH could have beaten Ryle this year. Their defense was just too weak.
  10. Didn't realize this came out a week or so. http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/C2/20081126/SPT02/811260387/ FIRST TEAM OFFENSE: QB: Nick West, Conner. RB:Charles Quainoo, Boone County; Miles Simpson, Simon Kenton. WR: Tony Bishop, Campbell County; Austin Collinsworth, Highlands. TE: Joe Daniels, Beechwood. OL: Dominic Mainello, Beechwood; Adam Dempsey, Highlands; Kevin Connaughton, Covington Catholic; Max Muckerheide, Conner; Zach Hall, Boone County. K: Chris Grosser, Newport Central Catholic. SECOND TEAM OFFENSE: QB: Rob Kues, Newport Central Catholic. RB: Mark Kelly, Newport Central Catholic; Neico Teipel, Beechwood. WR: Pat Van Sant, Covington Catholic; Connor Brock, Dixie Heights. TE: Mike Sullivan, Holy Cross; Brandon Roller, Highlands. OL: Josh McIntyre, Bellevue; Aaron Wilson, Scott; Joel Lubrano, Dixie Heights; Stephen Van Name, Ryle; Jordan Hansel, Simon Kenton; Hunter Schlosser, Highlands; Brady Slusher, Beechwood; Wes Smith, Dixie Heights. FIRST TEAM DEFENSE: DL: Andy Rich, Boone County; Brady Slusher, Beechwood; Kody Rosenhagen, Highlands. LB: Brandon Roller, Highlands; Pat Van Sant, Covington Catholic; Zac Eagler, Boone County; Greg Willett, Newport Central Catholic. DB: Austin Collinsworth, Highlands; Joe Daniels, Beechwood; Miles Simpson, Simon Kenton. Punter: Nieco Teipel, Beechwood. SECOND TEAM DEFENSE: DL: Dominic Mainello, Beechwood; Jake Kiernan, Newport Central Catholic; James Rice, Holmes; Mike Sullivan, Holy Cross. LB: Jimmy Brickler, Campbell County; Tyler Geiman, Conner; Derek Huninghake, Bellevue; Mike Covington, Holmes; Nick Martin, Highlands. DB: Seydrick Walker, Lloyd; Gus Murray, Ryle; Justin Sherlock, Dayton; Willie Price, Newport P: Ben Parr, Newport Central Catholic. A couple omissions, IMO. Not sure how you leave off Engelmon from Conner at WR (63 rec, 773 yds, 7 TD) and take Conner Brock from Dixie (28 rec, 476 yds, 3 TD). This is not meant to be a slam at Brock. I didn't even know he was a WR. I also don't think Collinsworth should have been 1st team WR. Name recognition helps there. Guidugli from HHS (138-208, 2455 yds, 19 TD, 427 rushing) deserves to be there over Kues (108-191, 1407 yds, 13 TD, 664 rushing). Not sure why they only picked one 1st team TE and two for 2nd team, but no way you can leave out Tyler Brake from Conner (30 rec, 407 yds, 4 TD). Neither Daniels or (12 rec, 240 yds, 2 TD) or Sullivan (12 rec, 128 yds, 5 TD) had Brake's stats. Brake was without question the top TE in 6A this year . I also found it odd that no one from SK's OL made it. I don't know their personnel all that well, so maybe they truly didn't have a standout player in that area, but as good as Simpson was (is), he most certainly didn't do it all by himself. Again, they only took three 1st team DB's, but took four 2nd team DB's for some reason. If there's an open spot, I think Josh Lamping (Safety for Ryle) deserved it, as he had 100 tackles this year.
  11. Don't give up an average 50 points a game and it'll never occur. And, yes, that is a joke only.
  12. Well, I would assume that part of the equation which people considered prior to voting included whether: 1) they thought he was guilty of the crime - irrespective of any presumption of innocence; 2) what type of sentence he would receive if convicted; and 3) how the NFL will respond to his actions. I don't think it's fair to claim that someone has forsaken the values of our criminal justice system simply by expressing an opinion that what they think might happen to him is that he'll be found guilty and be sentenced to jail time and therefore miss the season. This is, after all, a forum to express opinions.
  13. So tell us - what is a fair sentence? And, just for fun, let's pretend this is such a "regular" punk and not a New York Giant. And should that fact that it occurred in NYC rather than Des Moines, Iowa have any effect on the sentence? (Because it obviously does and the state of NY obviously wants it this was so as to encourage people not to commit this crime.)
  14. How is there a double standard?! It's the same mandatory sentence for everyone convicted of committing the same crime. That's actually one of the major pluses about mandatory sentencing - it takes subjective evaluations about race, wealth, sex, religion, background, etc. out of the equation. You want to argue that 3 1/2 years is too strong a sentence, period? Fine. But he's not being treated any differently than if Halfback20 did the exact same thing. No double standard.
  15. Nope. I make the same evaluations and opinions of him based on the same stories and news about his actions and behavior that everyone else reads. Maybe he's just a sweetheart of a guy, but I'm thinking I'd prefer he not live next door to me.
  16. I'm not sure where anyone has "bashed" CCH. So I left them out of my top ten, but included the caveat that I don't have any issue with putting them at #10. And I won't disagree that they'd beat Bellevue, so ultimately I guess my list was flawed. It just kind of weighed on me that CCH had such a poor year. But it's equally off base for someone to rank them #7. Ryle should be ahead of both them and Dixie.
  17. Lamping gave some quality minutes in last night's game against Boone also. Very aggressive, physical player. Pretty darn good in football, too. :thumb:
  18. One varsity game is probably just a tad early to be throwing out the stud label.
  19. Yeah, pretty much so. But given I'm in my mid-40's, absolutely hate heavy metal or rap, it's pretty much all I know. I've heard "Jessie's Girl" is the #1 karoake song of all time, so it gets special props for that, right? Right??
  20. We really need a 4th choice added to this poll: "Rooming with Halfback20" Let Halfback have a little firsthand taste of life with a disrespectful, unrepentent punk like Plexithug. :scared:
  21. Trust me, having seen enough of your posts, I very much believe you. I, of course, feel the exact opposite, although I will plainly admit that my opinion on the subject is hardly a subjective one given my occupation.
  22. Not sure that Fast Times would qualify as "little known." Absolutely one of the funniest movies ever though. "Hey dude, what's your problem." October Sky is a fabulous movie and based on a true story.
