Yeah, there were times where they had near 75 suited up for practice. Thats nearly 4x what they had last year. Lewis Co. will be better, but probably still only get 2-3 wins.

If memory serves me correctly, the district will be at Raceland. Someone else might be able to confirm this but im pretty sure thats where its at.

You mean Rose Hill is still going to have a basketball team? I give them 4 years and they have one of the best teams in the 16th region.

All 16th region threads end up arguing about Elliott Co. and the way they do things.

No doubt. Hampton should have a large advantage this year and maybe the next couple but Kidwell will find ways to win with what hes got.

Classes actually started today, and I was told he was there. Good news for Coach Hampton, the players, and the fans.

I would have to agree. I dont know the boys at MC personally but from watching them play they seem to be close with one another and unselfish.

I dont think Lewis Co. in Northeastern KY has seen 62 players the past 4 seasons combined. Last year they finished the season with only 19 available players. I think it was 2 years ago they brought in a new coach who challenged the kids more then the previous coach and the kids failed to meet the challenge. The kids were simply to lazy and undetermined and therefore simply quit. The team only won 1 game in 2007-2008. After last year, the coach took a new job with a program to be closer to his family. A new coach (previous assistant and current head baseball coach) was hired toward the end of the school year. This coach is a great guy but is considered by the students to be somewhat of a push-over. In a meeting held by the coach within the last week of school, something like 90 kids (9th-12th) attended. Of course, not all 90 turned out for summer practice but they have had 30+ at every practice. This isnt a huge turnout, but tremendous considering previous years. What I am getting at, kids dont want to work as hard and put forth the effort needed to become better football players. They enjoy the game just as long as they dont have to exert any energy. Because there are so many alternatives, kids find enjoyment in things requiring less work. I also think tradition has an impact in numbers, but parents are the greatest factor. This is just my insight on the situation.

He will be a junior. He didnt get much PT at first because of learning the system. I would say hes at least 6'5". In the program picture last year, he was nearly as tall as Darius. Treg Setty is a very good ball player. I seen a freshman game of his and watched him play some j.v. IMO, he could be better then his brother. If he continues to lift weights (I would guess they have him on some kind of program), he could improve his down low ability and become a better rebounder. And like his brother, his stroke is as good as it gets.

Ive forgotten which school it was. I could have told you last year, but I cant remember now. Does Barner have much shooting ability? The couple times I seen him play, he was passive outside of 5 feet. However, I dont think MC will lack in shooters this year or the next couple of years.

I think it will be an interesting year for Mason Co. and different then the past. Im anxious to see how Phil Barner plays since there was a lot of hype of him coming to Mason. He will have his opportunity to shine, and we'll have to see if he takes advantage of it.

They lose 8 seniors, all of which seen playing time. I dont think they will have much depth, but should have some good players. IMO, the 63rd will be down so they will be able to compete for the district.

Cameron Hall was a top 10 player in the 16th. Not sure how he will help Glasgow because I dont know what they have, but he can shoot the ball well.

As for the 63rd, I hope to think Lewis Co. will be the front-runner but its hard to tell this early. Behind them I would put Raceland, then Greenup, and then another long year for Russell.

Flannery can golf, but his golfing ability wont help his team on the basketball court. Elliott Co. will still consist of 5 key players, and then 1 or 2 that can come of the bench and contribute in big games. Ferg and the Faulkners are the top 3 in the region, T. Knipp is in the top 5 (can put in either spot depending on who you talk to), and C. Knipp is probably in the top 10. I would have to put Hall in the top 10, Boyles as probably the 4 or 5, and then any number of players can finish out the top 10.

Yes, Elliott Co. will have 5 players in the top 10 but they better enjoy it while it lasts. I dont know what they have in the way of middle school players, but it will be hard to replace the 4 or more they will be losing. I would have to agree that Hall for Fairview should be one of the top 10. And if the Whitten (correct spelling is Witten) you are talking about is from Lewis Co., I would have to think that him and Terrence Smith will be in the running for the 10th spot but a player to keep an eye on is the new player from Lewis.

TJ coached freshman ball for a year at Lewis Co. but I think that was the extent of his coaching there.

The 63rd consists of Raceland, Greenup, Russell, and Lewis. Im not sure if this district will compete more this year with the others. Raceland returns 1 key player (I think Boyles but not sure) and maybe a few others who seen minutes last year. Russell will still be very young and transitioning to a new coach. I dont really remember what Greenup has coming back, I think they have Craft returning and they have some good players in the freshman and sophomore class. Lewis has had a new player move in with size and have a good shooter in Frankie Witten and great player in Terrence Smith. Hard to say who will be the front-runner in the district, I just hope they can compete with Elliott Co., East Carter, etc.

It would be interesting if TJ were to get the job. He has been such good friends with Jay and went to Bracken Co. with him. They should share many of the same ideas and philosophies I would think. When I first heard Jay was coming back to Lewis Co., I asked if TJ would be coming with him. I would like to see TJ get the chance to prove himself as a head basketball coach.

He has played with them this summer and plans to play with them next year. He is living with his cousin who is a former basketball player for Coach Hampton. I havent got a chance to see him play yet but look forward to. I hear nothing but good things coming from the coaches and other players.

Although Lewis did committ many running errors, the errors they had in the field in Mondays part of the game cost them greatly. With two outs in the first inning, Lewis committed 3 errors and gave up 4 runs. Im not sure the total number or errors, but it seemed like those errors in Mondays part of the game cost them greatly. Shame they lost, thought they might have had a chance to pull of an upset in the region.

It will be difficult to do, but I think he is more then willing to attempt to do both. Im sure he will keep many of the same assistant coaches that have been around the program for the past 5+ years. Whether or not they are willing to take care of the football responsibilities during the spring is yet to be seen. Coach Hughes will do the best he can with both jobs, but it will be difficult and a very busy man throughout the entire year.
