Sounds like Patrick is putting it all together. He has a very young supporting cast and it appears that they have pulled off a couple of big upsets this season. He is a wonderful kid with great parents.

I didn't say he wasn't pitched to, I just said he didn't get a lot to swing at. There is a difference. Unlike a lot of posters on here, I didn't root for either team, I have 4 kids from Boone and 6 from Ryle who will play for me this summer, so I was just there to see them play. I just love to watch baseball, even in freezing cold weather.

How did Pendleton's Patrick Johnson do?

Cory didn't get a lot to swing at, with the exception of a line shot single over 2nd base late in the game and #18 from Ryle was Carney, he also played 2nd base, I must have been sitting next to his Mother, every move he made was quickly turned into a phone call to what appeard to be his Dad, which was kind of funny to hear. The closest anyone came to going yard was when Boone's Brian Robertson hit the base of the fence late in the game, the wind was really blowing in strong

:lol: We all know he's not normal. Question though for you, are the guys at Owen starting to get their gloves broke in? Seems like a tremendous amount of errors. Oh and by the way, he throws more pitches than that just to warm up, doesn't he?

Ryle had a couple of bases loaded situations early and ended up getting nothing out of them and Boone blew the game open with a huge inning and just added to it as the game went on. Two observations though: One, If Ryle doesn't start hitting the baseball, it will be a long season for them and Two, if Boone doesn't find another starting pitcher, Houlehan's arm is going to fall off. Boone kind of reminds me of last season when they only had Brad Krohman but IMO, Houlehan is not as good as Brad Krohman, even though he is by far their best and I agree with the Old Guy that this is not baseball weather.

We played in a tournament last summer at Anderson Co. and I find it hard to believe that the guys that ran that tourney for their high school team would beat someone so unmercifully like this. There is just no excuse to do that to any team, there is nothing gained from continually beating someone that bad. It is hard to ask your kids to not try, but I cannot imagine the boys from Anderson didn't feel bad for the kids from Eminence and also that the parents from either side didn't come unglued, it had to be horrible to see your boys pounded like that. As a coach my self, I personally would feel very guilty in crushing any kids spirits that way, no matter what anyone here has said, this could have been avoided or definitely lessened. And yes, in 20+ years of coaching, my teams have both handed out and received some butt whippings, but nothing to this extreme.

It was nice to finally see baseball, Ryle looked pretty good. Charlie Lovan and Joe Renda both turned in nice performances on the mound. And Luke Leatherbee and Renda made an outstanding force play at third base on a diving stop in the hole by Luke and a diving tag by Renda with the bases loaded to kill the only serious Brossart threat. I stand by my claim that Leatherbee is the best defensive shortstop in NKY. Ryle hit the ball okay, Kyle O'Hara was 3-3 with a triple and Cory Rieder had 2 hits as well.

You guys are funny, but truthfully Niehaus is a very nice pitcher and if he plays his cards right he could play at the next level, but I don't know about the other two.

I think it is very strange that he would just walk away, don't you think? I bet there is a very good reason.

Does anyone know who he plays summer ball for?

Trent is definitely Brent's little brother, and no offense to big brother but little brother is much better, also a totally different type of player, can play infield and outfield, very nice glove and a pretty strong pitcher. Brent could probably outhit him though.

Who will be the top pitchers in the 8th region? I know Michael Ogden from Owen Co. will be one of the top, if not the best and Michael Walter from Williamstown, along with Scott Brown from Gallatin Co. Who else?

I have to agree, the kids today have so much more opportunities to keep working and improving their skills that we never had. It also says alot that the summer programs are so good and there are so many kids wanting to play. We had numbers in the 80's at our Kings tryouts and some very talented guys showed up. The Kings, Colonels, and Bluegrass all keep about 20 kids per team and play roughly 50 games each against some tremendous competition, which can only make these kids better. And no offense to Tim Grogan and the guys from 7 years ago, but there are some very talented kids that I and the other coaches around here are very proud to brag about.

Obviously you have not seen them play very much. It is not Leatherbee's,(proper spelling), fault that he had to sit behind Humphrey last year, therefore not getting to arrive, but that seems to be the Ryle way. I am not slighting Humphrey in any way, but Luke plays for me in the summer and the kid is rock solid at SS. Mark has played for me alot in the past, and is very good, especially with his bat, I actually prefer him at 2B, he seems a lot more comfortable there. And yes, they are both tremendous young men who both should have great seasons. And by the way this is not a Ryle thing, my kid goes to CovCath.

A post from another thread regarding Bellevue's new shortstop, Tracy Jones' son now being the best shortstop in NKY got me to thinking. Who is the best shortstop in NKY? If there is a better defensive shortstop than Luke Leatherbee from Ryle, I would like to see him. He can really pick it, with a more than adequate arm.

Being a member of the Ky Kings program, I am very offended, as I am sure are some others with the bashing of the Kings and other programs in comparisons with the Colonels. I assure you that with the Kings program and knowing Rob Sanders and his Bluegrass program, our job is to also look out for the boys futures in every way. The number of kids that have gotten scholarships and help from these 2 programs in particular is far more than anyone would know. While Walt has a tremendous program and god bless him for everything he and Denny do, I am sure he would agree that he does not have the only program that takes care of the kids best interest and he probably would also be upset that the continued bias toward his program would in any way diminish what the rest of us do. While your loyalty to these programs is admirable, I suggest that you might want to stop your petty arguing and think before you speak. Sorry to vent, but when you are on the outside looking in, it is easy to put down something you don't know every thing about.

Now living in the 9th region area, but having grown up in the 8th region, I know of Michael Ogden from Owen, Michael Walter from Williamstown, Matt Allen from Carroll, and Scott Brown from Gallatin, who are some of the other better players in the 8th region?

I would say that if Coach puts the Ryle guys in the right spots, they could be very tough to beat, no offense to CovCath.

Does he play summer ball?

Does Simon Kenton have any other pitchers besides Brown & Robinson? We faced a kid named Greis in fall league who was coming off an injury who looked real good. Also, does anyone know of any "sleepers" that will surprise this season?
