  1. Its funny how a month ago we were debating if cchs could challenge sl in the region. Now they can't challenge phs
  2. My gosh, he's only won about 675 of them, including about about 14 in the Sweet 16. I'll tell you what Catzrule we would love to have him down here.
  3. Plus Warren Central has the advantage in playing in a weak region. To win the state they would have to win 2 to 4 less games against top 15 teams than a team from the 7th or 11th. Teams like Warren Central and South Laurel have a huge advantage.
  4. Conway is a good young coach that if given the opportunity and continues to learn could develop into an excellent coach.
  5. I think Ballard got the better end of the officiating in their 21 point loss to Scott Co. According to the stat sheet Ballard shot 38 free throws and Scott Co only shot 24. I think I remember the point spread being 29 before Scott Co cleared their bench. Ballard could very well beat SC if they both happen to get that far. However, blaming the early season loss on officating is nutts.
  6. "He's not been there long enogh to build a long term successful program". That's my point exactly. I think he has a chance but to call him a "great coach" after 1 3/4 years is a bit, no a lot, of an exageration. Now don't get me wrong. I am a huge supporter of Conway. Its just that your standards of great and mine are light years apart.
  7. If Casey goes, who's in line for the job? I personally thought the Dragons should have hired John D. Wilson when he applied way back in 86 when Hicks left for Corbin.
  8. Moses is a heck of a player for Henry Clay.
  9. I like Conway very much and I hope he stays at North Laurel. If the people at the North Laurel and the Laurel County School Board do not retain him it will be a mistake. However, I don't think he has earned the title of a "great coach" yet. In my mind to be a "great coach" someone would need to build a program that is a consistant winner and consistant threat to win the region every year. I certainly think Conway has the potential to become a "great coach". Great coaches build programs not teams.
  10. There are a lot more than 3 teams that can beat Scott County. Don't get me wrong. I think your Cardinals are the best team in Kentucky. I think that fact is undebatable by reasonable intellegent fans. However, in Kentucky high school basketball almost any team can win a one game series. Bryan Station is one of possibly 5 teams in the 11th region alone that could beat SC on a given night. The odds of SC getting to the state tournament are not good considering the good teams they will have to beat to get there. What are the odds that they will beat Henry Clay, Bryan Station, Lafayette, Lexington Catholic, and Henry Clay again? I didn't even mention Tates Creek and Madison Central. To get through the district and 11th region will be tougher than getting through the Sweet 16.
  11. In past years when I have attended the Scott Co- Lex Cath game one side of the gym was primarily Scott County (the side behind the benches and scorers table), and the other side was Lex Cath. Since SC always had more fans there would be scattered groups of SC fans in the upper arena part of the Lex Cath side. It sounds like last night the Lex Cath people had decided that one side of the lower arena would be Lex Cath and 1/2 of the other side. This would be fine except for the SC people bring such a large crowd. To solve this problem in the future I would suggest to the Lex Cath people to make the side of the gym where the scorers table and benches are the home side. That way you wouldn't have to worry about those mean old Scott County students being so close to your basketball team.
  12. At Scott Co one side of the lower arena is reserved for season ticket holders. All other seats are first come first serve. I have been to many many big games in Scott County's gym and have never been asked to move. The only way the SC people would have moved the LC people last year is if they were seated in the reserve section. This is very possible. SC fans get to the games very early to get good seats, except the season ticket holders, who can wait till the last minute if they wish. Its common for SC's gym to be packed 2 hours before tip-off in big games, except for the reserved section which will remain 1/2 full till just before tip-off.
  13. I thought London was the epacenter of Kentucky and Louisville was "out in the state".
  14. Your right. Mack is a junior. I have seen 3 or 4 juniors as good or better than any senior on my list. Your also correct in that I haven't seen Pettigrew play since late last season. Other than PRP and Tates Creek E'town hasn't played anybody worth driving that far to see them play. I was very impressed with Pettigrew last season. He was basically a very strong effective post player. Can he play out on the floor this year.
  15. In that case, maybe you should sell reserved tickets behind the home team's bench.
  16. I still think unless you have reserved seats, people should buy their ticket and sit in any open seat they find. Surely the Lex Cath fans and parents could get to their own gym before the SC kids.
  17. Four active coaches I think are some of the best in the state are: Hicks Listerman Riley Woods Coaching isn't as good now as it was a decade ago. The reasons are with the time demands and work envolved, most guys only stay with it 5-10 years and then go into administration. Coaching is not a 40 hr a week job. It has to consume a major part of your life to be successfull for the long haul. You have to love it.
  18. Jim, Coach Wright could have helped Proffitt a little more by playing a more competitive schedule also. He could have sprinkled a few more of the state's top teams into the SL schedule. Other than Madison Central has SL played any top 10 teams?
  19. Listerman is one of the state's top 5 coaches in my book, but yes he coaches a very boring style of game from a fan's stanpoint. I have seen them make up to 12 passes in their offense before getting the shot they want, and this against a great man to man pressure team. They do this as well as anyone in the state.
  20. The reason Vanhoose has been under the radar is they have played a typical 16th region schedule. Other than their loss to Mason Co in the 5th 3rd Russell has not gotten out and played any top teams. Mr. Basketball is a lot about publicity. To promote a kid for Mr Basketball the coach has to get a schedule that showcases the kid in big games. Not going to happen playing Ashland and Greenup County.
  21. Best seniors I have seen play are: 1. Walls 2. Proffitt 3. Pettigrew (haven't seen him play since late last season) 4. Mack 5. Beckham
  22. Another great one, though underrated, was Rodrick Robinson from Harlan. Miller got most of the ink because of his scoring but Robinson would go out and get you 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 6 steals, and 16 points every night while guarding the other teams best player. He had a very good college career after leaving Harlan.
