Slow down and let's not put the cart before the horse. From my understanding he has enrolled in Holmes for the upcoming year and his parents have moved into the school district which Holmes is in. With that said he still has to be cleared by the KHSAA to have met the eligibity rules regarding transfers. Until that time he's not a member of the basketball team officially. Will he get ruled eligible? Probably yes but we'll have to wait and see after the school sends in his transfer request for varsity eligibility. Until then he is just a student who will be attending Holmes High School. (If you don't think the KHSAA can make a mess of things just ask Scott Co. about last year)

Carlisle should be entertaining to watch. Coach O'Neill's kids play really hard for him. Comets return steady point guard Blake Rutherford who can really knock down the threes when he's able to get his feet set. Comets do return Mr. do-every-thing Caleb Hardy. Hardy improved his game by leaps and bounds from his sophmore to junior season. Hardy is a very hard worker and is a warrior on the floor. At 6'6 Hardy can play on the perimeter and rebound and go coast to coast and finish on the other end. Hardy is picking up valuable experience this summer I believe playing with the Derek Smith All Stars on the AAU tourny circuit. Comets have some young players from the JV level who have some talent and need to step up for Carlisle to have the type of year they had last year (top 5 or 6 in 1st region all year). Carlisle did own a win over Sweet Sixteen rep Graves Co. at Comet home court (first time Comets have beaten Graves Co. in several years).

Unless some things have changed since developments with the reorganiztion of leadership of the Marshall Co. Hoops Fest, Holmes had comitted to play in it instead of the Frankfort deal. This all came about after the game against Largo, MD @ South Laurel. Steve Woodward long time head man of Hoops Fest has steped aside and Marshall Co. AD and staff will run Hoops Fest this year.

It was great to see Arrez Henderson down on the floor to celebrate with the Dawgs last night! In my opinion Arrez is an unsung hero for this team. He set the standards that this team continued to follow all the way to a State Title. You just see it in the workman like, unselfish, defense first attitude of the Johnson bros., Riley, Dom & the rest of the guys. Arrez left his mark on Holmes program and his former team mates it's just too bad the title came a year to late for him, but he will be remembered. Congrats & go DAWGS!

I'd say it's hard pressed to find a team quicker than Ballard which Holmes has faced and defeated. Not saying there not out there but of all the teams I've seen Holmes play Ballard was the over all quickest. I know Elliott defeated Ballard @ Elliott on a Saturday after they (Ballard) had played on Friday night and to travel all of the way down to Elliott next day and played into Elliott's game of run and gun and it did not work for them. Which teams at Sweet 16 can slow it down and grind out W's when forced? to.

So my question is this " Whose team or teams are more affected if Holmes gets their type of game which seems to be a grind it out lower scoring or up tempo style say like Elliott Co. which like to run and score alot. How will the officiating affect types of games in Sweet Sixteen, called closely or let them play ruff an tumble defense which tends to favor lower scoring games?"

Here are some numbers to support my position that Holmes style of play takes teams out of their style. Bryan Station season avg. 70.14ppg. vs. Holmes 86(worst game of season for Dawgs) & 56 in rematch. Scott Co. season avg. 80.78 vs. Holmes - 65 Ballard season avg. 72.81 vs. Holmes - 42 Henderson Co. season avg. 63.03 vs. Holmes - 42 Frankiln Co. season avg. 62.11 vs. Holmes - 48 Boone Co. season avg. 62.16 vs. Holmes - 45(loss for Holmes) & 29 in rematch Hazard - 61.14 season avg. vs. Holmes - 40 OBTW Christian Co. gave up I think 82 to Henderson Co. in regional finals when Henderson Co. has only averaged 63.03. Almost 20 points more than their season avg.

None because they have learned that if they try and run with Holmes it usually ends up in a twenty plus point game versus if they try slowing it down and limit Holmes offensive possessions they can hope to try and have a shot at end of the game if they can stay within 8-10pts.

So if he known as defensive minded coach then why is his team giving up 65.77 per game vs. Holmes 46.11 per game? If you compare schedules I think Holmes has played the better schedule and is allowing less points per game. I'm not saying Stovall is not defensive minded I'm saying Holmes is the better defensive team.

I've heard from a real good source close to the Holmes program that their head coach felt that Boone's defensive effort against them might have been the best effort in his tenure at Holmes which spans I believe 10+ yrs. Hats off to Boone's effort. I don't believe Christian Co. will of have played a team with as good of defense as Holmes plays. Question remains to be seen how good is Christian's defense? Holmes has put up some nice numbers against some really good teams on both sides of the ball.

Here are some numbers to ponder. Chriatian Co. offensive avg. 76.4 per game defensive avg. 65.77 per game Holmes offensive 59.8 per game defensive avg. 46.11 per game Holmes last 5 games on defensive side of the ball. Holy Cross season avg. 47.19 Holmes allowed 24 Beechwood season avg. 64.85 Holmes allowed 43 Newport Central Catholic season avg. 54.31 Holmes allowed 38 Ryle season avg. 52.42 Holmes allowed 34 Boone Co. season avg. 62.19 Holmes allowed 29 If I were a betting man, which I'm not. I'd take Holmes to get closer to Christian Co.'s average of 65.77 than I would to think that Christian Co. would score close to their average of 76.4 per game. Holmes will "D" them up. They won't press alot or create a great deal of turnovers but they will guard the heck out of you and really frustrate you to death with the pressure and contesting of every shot. Henley has been there both as a coach and a player and he KNOWS defense will win a state title or give them the best shot at one.

Marshall has the heart touching story and maybe a litttle angel on their side as Marshall's coach lost his young son to a brain tumor a few months ago.

First region finals are set. Graves Co. will take on Marshall Co.

Is there a final yet?

Could be a great final if PCC holds on for the victory. Hazard vs. PCC wow should be an all time classic to remember.
