  1. Williamsburg Vs Notre Dame Academy Chatt, Tn 2:00 on 27th Todd County vs Corbin 4:00 UHA vs Franklin County 6:45 on 28th Byrnes, SC Vs Pontotoc, MS 8:45 These are the brackets that I was given....
  2. I agree South could have won this game. Karr had a good look on one of his last two attempts. South's Man to Man defense really got after the Hounds and that seemed to turn the tide of the game. Makes you wonder how the outcome may have been different if they had played Man D the whole game? Sanders was very impressive as was Khan and Karr off the bench for the Cards. The intensity level really rises when these substitutes enter the game. I thought Sizemore played well off the bench for Corbin as well. He made two big 3's and several nice interior passes as well. Another Classic in this series between two good high school programs. Hope both teams continue to improve throughout the season.
  3. BCG would have been a very happy man down in the Moon Palace for this event. It is a nice place for a beach vacation, not so sure about a basketball tournament, but what the heck you only live once.
  4. Good season for the Jackets....not sure what they have coming up but the defense will need to improve if they ever have a shot at winning a class A state title. Moses will be missed a ton. Numbers and talent could be getting low down in the south end of the County.
  5. Both teams can score points. This game comes down to which team can stop the other and which team makes the fewest mistakes. Defense and special teams will determine the winner IMO. Epperson is a young man who has really benefited by playing football.
  6. Both would be good options and no doubt he would excel at both.
  7. I thought he was still there. But of course, I follow the LSU Tigers more than the Auburn ones....lol Where did Slusher transfer? I feel pretty solid about Manns playing basketball this season too. What would happen if Les won the Power Ball? Do you think he would keep writing for the Times? Would his life change at all? Lol.
  8. No one ever said repeating would be easy for the Hounds. Players like Josh Crawford, Lee Crawford, Blake Hendrickson and Josh Smith do not come along every year. Hounds should be a team which improves as the season rolls along. Hopefully they will be decent with the players they have returning, don't you think Les?
  9. Good win for the Jackets. With less than 25 healthy players dressed today and to come up with the defensive effort they did. Congrats to Coach Herron and Defensive Staff for pushing the right buttons and earning a home playoff game as well.
  10. It is hard to say who will start before practice even starts. IF all the returning players are healthy and ready to go I would say Johnson, Wilson, Manns, Smith and Watkins. Taylor and Sizemore would be the first two off the bench with Hopkins, Freeman, Stewart and Jones being able to provide minutes as well. I would not be surprised to see Hoover be able to help the team with his athleticism as well. He could be a good on the ball defender. Coach P has several options. He can go big and pound the ball inside. Smith at Point, Manns, Hopkins, Johnson and Watkins or go small with Wilson, Freeman, Taylor, Stewart, Sizemore and press teams full court.
  11. I would say this young man has put in countless hours in the gym and weightroom working to become the player that he is. He maybe limited in height 5'9, but I think almost every team in the state would love to have him as a team member. I hope he finds a school where he can get a good education and enjoy playing basketball. I think he would be a great fit at a school like ETSU? I wonder if the Bucs have shown any interest in him?
  12. In my opinion, which does not mean a great deal to many, Mitch Howard was the numero uno, top dog, A number one of all time, journalist to work in the Corbin area. His stories were genuine, well written, and always interesting to read. He found things off the court, which added to his stories. He did not play both ends against the middle, no hidden agendas, no play on words. If team A played bad he said so, If team B played well he said so. I think he was the best we have had in Corbin since Jim Lee Crawford.
  13. Yes, Les is one of a kind. Jim McCallister does a nice job with the News Journal. I think Jim really cares about the students and tries his best to give them as much publicity as possible. He covers Whitley, Wburg and Corbin very, very well. We are lucky to have him down here in Whitley County. With a very limited staff, Jim puts out an outstanding sports section each week. I appreciate that he does not try to cover London or Barbourville and leaves that to the local papers in those communities as well. Jim does not get the credit he deserves many times.
  14. Well, you do a great job. Many of us appreciate the hours you put into high school basketball in the 13th region. Sometimes calling it like you see it does not set well with others, but to truly do your job you have to call them like you see them. Should be an interesting year in the region. I think you will see some major upsets as well. I will be eagerly awaiting your preseason basketball edition. I think it is one of the best in the state.
  15. How much did South Beat Clay by in the Region and then less than a week later Corbin beat South by 35 points in the finals. I agree it is hard to compare scores. No need to defend Clay as your pick. I would have picked them as well before the injury. Probably put South at 2 then Corbin at 3, if I were basing things on summer performance. I can not imagine how hard it is to write a preseason column in August. Lord knows, some kids quit, transfer, etc. Injuries all that factor is as well. It might be fun to see how well you have predicted the winner say the last 10 years or so. Do you have that kind of info HDE? I would guess you are better than .500.
  16. How did you know? The gal I took to the 8th grade formal down in Louisiana did have a big nose, but her mommy was a good cook and her daddy always took me fishing on the Bayou. Thank goodness I found Sweetness and moved North to Kentucky. She saved me from the Gators and those killer Skeeters as well.
  17. Not sure I agree with that statement based on the way the season ended, but I agree, this is an entirely new season and new teams. Clay being picked number 1 is a solid selection. I am sure the Tigers will enjoy carrying the bullseye on their backs.
  18. Hounds should win easily. I would say Corbin 50 Knott 12.
  19. Will the defense improve enough to keep Campbellsville under 40 this week? All the Jacket games have been high scoring. If the Jackets can put up 50 then they will win, otherwise the defense will let them down again this week I am afraid.
  20. Lucas maybe in consideration for Statewide coach of the Year. He took over a tough situation and his team has well exceeded most peoples expectations already.
  21. I have heard this was in the works as well. I am sure the folks at Knott County could shed some light on the matter.
  22. Loss is a loss. South should be able to compete with PSW. Huge school with talented kids walking the halls. No moral victories when you have that many kids to pick from IMO. Corbin football is not satisifed with losing to anyone regardless of their size. Disappointing when turnovers and bad decisions beat you.
