    Campbell County vs. Boone County

    Christian County vs. Marshall County

    Doss vs. Valley

These look good...I would, however add 3 games that should also be good ones:

    Warren East - F.Simpson

    Russellville - Metcalfe Co

  2. Your point?

You could have made it from the beginning. Now it sounds like you're changing course. It sure seemed like you were being critical of NewCath's ranking in the beginning.

I was..I feel they were ranked too high and still do...When Mayfield was 2-5 against the likes of Eville North, Hopkinsville, Tighman, Marshall and the like, they were ranked in the 9-10 range and even fell out for a few weeks..I don't see the difference...NCC may well do like Mayfield did a few yrs ago and if they do, fine, more power to them...Just don't see where they should be #4 right now...Thats all I'm saying..

  3. NewCath has played a brutal schedule ... that is why they are 2-5. The same thing happened to Mayfield a few years ago and people wrote them off, only to see them get to the semifinals and push Danville to the brink.

This is my point exactly...People wrote them off, but, the same isn't being done to NCC...You didn't see Mayfield at 2-5 ranked in the Top 4, did you?

This is my WHOLE point...Thanks for making it for me...

  4. Not to be too picky, but it was actually 2004 that Danville was affected by a similar situation. They had to forfeit wins over Garrard County and Lincoln County. Ironically, Danville also picked up a forfeit win over Highlands that season.

Second, did any Kentucky teams play Milan this season? Just curious how this could potentially play out in a postseason tiebreaker?

No Ky teams have played them...Mayfield played them in a preseason scrimmage and do every year...

  5. Apparently, word came down today from the TSSAA that W.Tn. power, Milan Bulldogs have to forfiet there 1st 5 games this year for playing an illegal player...The player, a transfer lineman from Univ School of Jackson- USJ, apparently gave a family members address and his family never actually moved. Coach Jeff Morris said in an interview that the school had no knowledge of the wrong doing and thought they had dotted there I's and crossed there T's..

Coach Morris is a cousin to Mayfield Head Coach Joe Morris...They were currently 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in district play and ranked 5th in Tn AA...They are now 1-5 and 1-2 in district play with district games remaining against Huntington, Martin Westview, Trinton Peabody and Dresden..The 1st 3, all ranked in the state or have been at one time.

Tough break for the Bulldogs...They may not even make the playoffs now..

  6. Have you seen New Cath, Cov Cath or Beechwood play at all this year? Or are you just looking at the scoreboard results every friday night?

Not seen any of the 3...get most my info on here and on scores..Do know what Mayfield has done y-t-d and my opinion is like 99% of everyone elses, based the same way...

  7. Wow. I simply can't agree.

Have you seen Mayfield this year? Do you really think the Cardinals would be 5-2 against that schedule?

I saw Caldwell play Mayfield. I have seen both teams play since then.

It was the first game of the year. Believe me, Caldwell is a much better team now than it was then.

yes, Ive seen Mayfield play, 3 times to be exact and yes, I think they would come out 5-2 or maybe 4-3 at worse...certainly not 2-5...I also don't think NCC would have as good a record as Mayfield if they had played the Cards schedule....I would personally have Mayfield ranked 3rd at this point, behind Danville and Bardstown only..I'm not quite sold on Beechwood yet either...

  8. Ask yourself this ... what would Mayfield's record be against Newport Catholic's schedule?

Would the Cardinals have won at Belfry? Would they have beaten Ryle, Covington Catholic or Beechwood?

Maybe they would have beaten Holy Cross, but upsets happen sometimes. I think we all agree that Beechwood is a legitimate top-three team, yet NewCath led Beechwood for much of the game and lost it in the end by a touchdown.

NewCath was competitive with Ryle. Graves, who you think is on the same plane as Ryle, beat Mayfield 28-0. I know Mayfield had six turnovers, but that's part of the game.

And honestly, the Hopkinsville team that Mayfield beat wasn't at full-strength. Mayfield had to go to overtime to beat a winless Tilghman team.

I think Mayfield is a top-five team, but to me there is some doubt that they deserve to be in front of NewCath. We saw what happened when the two teams played last year, and NewCath didn't lose that much more than Mayfield did.

On point 1) I think Mayfield would beat Belfry, Holy Cross and Beechwood. They would probably lose to Ryle and CC...So, 5-2 would be my prediction.

On point 2) No, I'm not convinced Beechwood is a Top 3 team..I would have the Cards ahead of them..Just my opinion..

On point 3) NCC was dominated by Ryle..The score was closer than the game...Graves beat Mayfield handily and yes the turnovers hurt, but, I seriously doubt NCC would fare much better against Graves..

On point 4) Mayfield was w/o its starting RB and lost there best lineman for the whole 2nd half, so, I'd say neither were at full strength...PT is getting better and better and its a rivalry game, so, you can always throw out the records when these 2 play..

On point 5) Last year is last year and rankings should be based on this years performance to date and not what you did in past years...They did lose more unreplaceble playmakers than Mayfield..#s and production are 2 different things..

One final note: Wheres the love for the Caldwell thrashing...Looks pretty impressive now...They're undefeated since with a couple of quality wins over ranked teams...IMO, that win alone puts em ahead..

  9. Without question? No way ...

Mayfield might have an argument, but to dismiss it as a no-doubter ... that doesn't fly.

Bottom line ... NewCath has played tougher schedule than Mayfield. Ryle, in my opinion, is a little ahead of Graves. CovCath is certainly ahead of Hopkinsville. And certainly Belfry, and maybe even Holy Cross, is probably better than any Class A team Mayfield will meet until the semifinals.

Holy Cross is most likely stronger than any district opponent Mayfield will play, but, they were an unranked class A team at the time...thats a bad loss however you slice it, alot worse than the Graves and Marshall losses

and what wins does NCC have that would be considered a quality win.. Newport, maybe....I'd say the PTilghman, Hopkinsville, Caldwell Co wins are of greater quality than any they've had and Ryle may be slightly better than Graves, but, to me, there on about an even scale...Just my opinion....The Cards should be ranked higher, imo...

  10. Mayfield also lost to Graves County 28-0 and beat a Paducah Tilghman team that hadn't yet won a game in overtime.

Graves was undefeated also and probably on par with Ryle, based on what we know now...PTs record was 0-4, but losses to Hendo,WCent,Ft Camp and Graves..Wouldn't alot of teams be 0-4 against that..

Ryle looked like a possible top-10 team in 4A until last week. Covington Catholic is a legitimate #3 team in 3A. Those teams should beat Newport Catholic.

I'll give you CCH...Ryle is on an even keel with Graves, imo..I'll even give you Belfry, but, you failed to mention losing to an unranked 1a district foe. You do that and you deserve to go down...

Mayfield is a top-five team, I think, but I'm still not sure they should be rated ahead of NewCath. If the two teams played this week, I would be inclined to pick NewCath.

NCC could very well beat them, but, the Cards still deserve to be ranked ahead, based on ytd permance, without question..

  11. Beechwood should have moved up, not too many more strong programs in AA, and only one or two other "elite" teams they didn't play in A. I would rather see both Beechwood and Mayfield move up, I would rather see Beechwood and Mayfield continue to battle NewCath and Danville for a state tilte.

I, too, would have liked to have seen both Beechwood and Mayfield move up, but, just because a school may want too, doesn't mean they would be allowed to...alot of it depends on # of teams left in the district you're leaving and the # of teams you would have in the new district you're going to...I know for Mayfield, they would have been leaving a district with only 4 teams and would have been the 6th in the 2a district...KHSAA wouldn't have allowed it...The same may be said for Beechwood..i'm not that familiar with there districts in that area...

  12. Buy

    Johnson Central

    Franklin Co.

    Central

    Sell

    Valley

I agree...JCentral is probably the favorite to come out of rgn4, so, if you're looking at teams making the final 4, they have to be a BUY...Same goes for Central...Franklin Co is a little tougher call, but, they have a very solid team who, on any given night, can give any 3a team fits...Valley has a padded record against weak opposition and I can't see them going to far in the playoff hunt..

  13. I disagree. I think you may be putting too much stock in the fact that they're private schools. Male consistantly competes with St. X and Trinity and is pretty much on the same level. I'd say Male's better this year, though I haven't actually seen them play.

No, I know Male is a very good team and this particular year, is as good, but, if you look at state championships in the last 15-20 years, you see Trinity and X in there alot more...The thread is about Hoover, Al needing an opponent for nx year...I just don't think any Ky team would match up very well...Thats why I'd like to see 1 of the GCL schools play them..
