  1. After seeing Caldwell early in the year and simply going by Triggs scores against some pretty good competition, I, for 1, am surprised..Not so much that Caldwell won, but, more by the shutout against a high powered Trigg offense...Caldwell must be really improved...Rgn1 2a looks like it's going to be a dogfight this year...

  2. I'm a little surprised there's not more prognostications on this one...I can sure remember when these 2 teams absolutely despised each other and the game was the last game of the year and more times than not , decided who went on to the playoffs..I guess now that they're in different classes and has less importance, it's lost alot of it's luster..You'd actually think these 2 teams liked each other now..Can that be? Oh, How times have changed...

  3. You have it flipped around. The State Semi Final game would be at Somerset. We had to go to NCC last year, and unless it has changed wouldnt Somerset play Region 3 teams? Isnt Danville in region 2?

Like I said, if my understanding is correct about the seedings, which, I could be wrong, this is how I think they would be seeded and I would think that the higher seed would have home field advantage...

Someone, anyone, could you clarify the new playoff system format???

  4. There is nothing else to go on. Injuries, matchups, home field, turnovers, all play a role. I have something I call the Pitiful rule (half joke). If something is so bad like PTs d-line or a team is so bad like Handcock this season, some conclusions can be clearly drawn. With more and more games, the more everyone knows. Any poll posted on here uses what the fan saw of his or her team and scores from around the western part of the state. ---- Does the team favored usually win? The answer is yes, and as long as the answer is yes, there will be far more games where scores point to a favored team. You pulled one example. What about Graves last game? Did you think Handcock was down? Why? You can pick out the Castle game against Henderson, week 1, where the scores after that game do not match up. Since that game there has been a more consistent flow to Henderson's scores and their opponents scores. You are saying look at the Castle score and not the other 4 games ect? Scores mean something to a point, and with Graves or Henderson there are more scores that make since than scores that do not.

I see your point, but, there are some coaches who will run up scores and others who will not and then some teams will match up better to some then others, simply because of a style they play..I just feel scores are a minor, at best, indicator. Also, some teams Jv units are better and they increase the leads or maintain it better than others..

  5. If my understanding is correct, after the regionals are decided, the semi's will be seeded...If thats the case, I feel the Bardstown/Danville winner from region 2 will be the #1 seed..I think Mayfield will come out of Rgn 1 as the #2 seed, the Beechwood/NCC winner will be the # 3 seed and the Rgn 4 winner, which I'm predicting Somerset, as the #4 seed. Then it would shape up like this:

    Beechwood/NCC at Mayfield

    Somerset at Danville/Bardtown

Looking at it this way, I see Mayfield vs Danville/Bardstown in the finals and of the 3 right now, I'd go with Bardstown to win it all...

  6. If Graves is better than Henderson, it would have to be the best Graves team I have seen. Marshall beat Calloway 47 - 14 (I bet they put on the breaks). Graves wins by 14. Graves only beat HC by 23, which is a 1A team having a bad year. Do any of you know what Henderson would do to that team? Beating PT by 7!!! Henderson took their starters out at the end of the third 40-7 against them. I am sure after Moeller beats us by 50 we will drop more on some polls. And I am sure I will get hammered for this post, but I am just telling you Henderson is better than 8th.

    :irked:

Simply comparing scores doesn't hold water...for example, look at last weeks Trigg and Ft Campbell game...FTC had previosly lost to Madisonville 31-14 and then Trigg co beat that same Madisonville team 26-6 a week or 2 later...If your theory were true, wouldn't Trigg have beaten FtC by a substantial margin? I didn't put Graves over Hendo myself, but, its not a stretch if some do..They are a pretty strong team...

  7. I wil have to include Bath County in Class A. They are vastly improved from last season and could be a team that gives others some problems in the palyoffs.

I know they beat a pretty decent Fairview team last week...Who else have they played and what type team are they..A running team, passing team, little of both, or what..Whats there strengths and weaknesses??

  8. This game could go either way..Does Mayfield come out ready or will they be flat..This is a jeckyl and hyde team and you really never know..Will the week off pay divedends for PT or will they be a little off after the 2 week layoff..hard to say what will happen in this one..I'd like Mayfield to pull it off, but, something tells me that PT needs the win more and some much needed confidence going into district play, therefore, I'm going to say they pull it out in a squeaker...PT 28 Mayfield 24...

  9. And yet are we wrong? These 2 teams should be dominating the class that they're getting to play in on a technicality. The facts are this, neither of these teams would legally be able to play in their current class according to current enrollment numbers. However, due to an administrative oversight (how else do you explain teams getting to play with an unfair advantage--you don't see 1A teams being eligible for the 1AA playoffs) or just general laziness they're getting to play against smaller schools. Go on, dominate the teams that you shouldn't even get to play. We'll see what happens when you play in your own class. NO ONE can deny that Mercer and Western have an advantage. They shouldn't lose, at all in their class. And yet I have a feeling that Russell still isn't scared--just like I'm sure Mercer wouldn't be scared to play Highlands for both the 2 and 3A titles, after all if Mercer is allowed to play for the 2A title shouldn't Highlands? Why not just have a winner take all game--Mercer you'd be up for it wouldn't you?

In Mercers defense, they have no more of an adantage than the St X and Trinitys do every year, based on #s alone...it seems to me, just because mercer hasn't been one of the elite teams for years, that theres some animosity for there success..It's not there fault and they still have to play the games, so, let the chips fall where they may..this is a 1 year thing, so, lets not make a big deal of it...Compare the #s of T and x with the #s of the smaller 4a schools and you'll see alot more than just 300 kids difference, so, imo, its alot fairer than that...

  10. Without a doubt the biggest sleeper in 2A football.

Returned 7-8 starters on both sides of the ball from a regional finalist team from last year including all their skill position players. Very well coached, disciplined team, with a strong running game and an ample passing game to keep defenses honest.

Currently undefeated with wins over a pair of AAA teams and a victory over a decent Ohio small school. Only challenges remaining are Prestonsburg (who the Cards will be favored over and defeated last year) and Belfry (who the Cards played well last year and host this year). SC should be 9-1 going into playoffs where the program has been synonomous for pulling the upset such as last year when they traveled to an 11-0 Leslie County and came away with the W.

Great point..I almost mentioned them, but, since I limited it to 3 teams, they weren't mentioned..They also may well be a top 5 team by yearend, thus, wouldn't be a shocker to see em in Louisville..

  11. Another disappointing showing by the erractic Braves against a good but not great Mayfield team.

I think you may be short changing the Cardinals..They've been inconsistent at times, but this team has great potential and upside..Don't be surprised if they're still standing the 1st week in December...I still believe the Braves have enough talent to make the 3a playoffs this year..They should beat Calloway and Hopkins Central and could upset a young Tilghman team..

  12. Christian County is no dark horse. Right now they are the clear cut favorites to go to the state championship game from this side.

How can they be a clear cut favorite with St X and Male on the same end of the state? Getting through there own region won't be a cupcake either with teams like Henderson, Owensboro, Marshall, Graves, W.Central, Apollo. I do agree they should be the early favorite, but, based on state rankings and record to date, I'd still call them a sleeper..

  13. I agree with Lincoln county as a darkhorse, but they are a 4A team. They are in the same district with Madison Central and South Laurel. They have two great running backs with some speed who can break it on any play. With the way the distric is shaping up, they have a good chance of winning it and making a run into the playoffs, but I don't want to count my chinkens until they hatch. They will take one game at a time.

    You are right...My bad

  14. We're now 5 weeks into the season and the same ole same oles are still right in the hunt of things, but, at this point in the season what 3 teams in each class do you guys see as sleepers? These would be teams who aren't a top 5 team, but, maybe alot better than others think and could surprise some folks come playoff time...Here's mine:

    1a

Russellville - very nice athletes who now have a coach who's got them believing they can win..

Cov Holy Cross - Any team who can knock off the defending champs have potential to do damage..

Frankfort - everyone talks about Danville,Bardstown and Holy Cross in Rgn2, but, these guys are playing a great early schedule and have the speed to knock off any of the big boys on a given night..

    2a

Caldwell Co - After early season throttling by Mayfield, have rolled off 3 consecutive wins and can play with anyone in rg1 on given night..

Corbin - Has played very strong early schedule and competed well with 3a power Bell, so, I've got to say they could be strong contender..

Oboro Cath - Forget there record, as it stands now, early losses to Owensboro, Apollo and Spencer Co, don't appear to be bad losses as all 3 are formidable opposition..

    3a

Lincoln Co. - Don't know much about them, but, they've been impressive in recent weeks and seem to get better each week..

Boyle Co. - There record stinks, but, it only counts in district play and you better not overlook them..

Ashland - Started season on a low note with loss to Raceland, but, seemed to have been a wakeup call and have been impressive since..

    4a

Christian Co. - These guys have the athleticism to play with anyone. record is a bit deceiving..

Ryle - Doesn't get publicity of some of the other notable NKY teams, but are looking pretty strong thus far..

Marshall Co. - RB Alan Williams is a bigtime player and these guys are strong in the trenches and could make some serious noise..

Okay, lets hear yours..Of course, if you prefer, you can limit your responses to just 1 or 2 classes..just thought this would be a fun thread for open discussion...

  15. Both Fulton Co and Fulton City are much improved this year..They've always had great skill players, but, low #s, which I heard both were dressing 30-35 players this year, which is a big improvement over the 20-25 they normally have...I certainly don't see either beating Mayfield, but, I do think they both have the potential to beat any other teams in rgn 1, 1a or at least competing with them all...
