  1. Yeah, but Joe is pretty engrained in the system now and he has his Dad as a coach too so I doubt it will happen.

Maybe he's just got the itch period and not neccessarily just for the Mayfield job...I'd bet there would be lots of interest from alot of schools if the word was out that he wanted to get back into it...

  2. What he is saying is as true as can be.

"Conventional Wisdom" would say that Cincinnati football is better than NKY football.

Take the top Cincinnati team each year and play the best team in NKY for the last 10 years. Cincinnati would likely win 10 times.

Take the second best team in Cincinnati each year and play the second best team in NKY for the last 10 years. Cincinnati would likely win 10 times.

Now what "conventional wisdom" doesn't see is that NKY best teams would be Division 3, 4, or 5 (Highlands, CovCath, Beechwood, NCC) in Ohio while Cincinnati's best teams would all be Division 1.

Take the best Division 3, 4, or 5 team in Cincinnati and play the best Division 1 team in Cincinnati for each of the last 10 years. The Division 1 team will win 10 times.

Now take the best Division 3, 4 or 5 size teams in NKY and play the best Division 3, 4, and 5 teams in Cincinnati each year and I think NKY wins the majority of the games.

I agree with all your points...You can't compare apples to apples when talking the division 1 teams in Cincinnati...they would do the same to the smaller, more comparable teams in Ohio, as well...I do agree theres more talent overall in Ohio, but, shouldn't there be based on the population of the 2 states and as 1 poster commented, 800 schools compared to 200 schools that play football...It's more a #s thing then flat having more talent...shouldnt there be 4 times as many d-1 players coming out of ohio based on #s alone...Ky is a more basketball oriented state, for sure, and the football interest as a whole is greater in Ohio.on that note, I'd say oh is better, but, don't compare the div 1 private schools to ky, unless you want to just throw out X and trinity, who, in most years, could hold there own against the big Oh schools...

  3. Could it be that Leahy is considering coming out of retirement and getting back into coaching??...I sure wish he would and come back to Mayfield as the head man...Nothing against Joe, it just seemed like the players responded better to Leahy and there were alot less disciplinary issues..just my opinion...

  4. Hopkinsville and Marshall Co. agreed to a 2 year deal to play in the Trigg Co. bowl.

Im glad to see these 2 play each other...Hoptown always likes to test themselves in the early season and Marshall is a program definately heading in the right direction and it will also help Marshall to gauge themselves before district play starts...A win/win for both programs....

  5. That is correct...I just heard from a very reliable source that Landon does not have a tear in the MCL and is not season ending...but he will miss a few games, but hopefully will be back in time for district play and the playoffs later on this season. Thank goodness for the team and more importantly for Landon that his senior season is not totally gone and that he will put on the red and black again this year for the Cards!!!

This is great news...Landon is one heck of a lineman and his absense would be very hard to replace...Hopefully, with him being out a few games, it will give some of the other lineman some much needed experience which will only help later on onto the season...

  6. Graves defense is always there strong suit and they could very well hold the Cards in check...Mayfield will have to do a better job tackling than they did last week..In most years the Cards can contain 1 back, but they did a poor job tacking E.Taylor from Hoptown last week and there QB was very elusive and gave em fits also..Graves has more options on offense than the Tigers did , but, none quite as good as Taylor and the Eagles are primarily a running team with little threat from the air..There big O-line will allow the Eagles to score some points, but, I like the offensive firepower the Cards will throw at them and I still feel like it will be a pretty high scoring affair...

  7. I saw where the other thread got locked for some reason. so, let's open it up here..What's everyone's thought on this game? IMO, it'll come down to Mayfields line being able to contain the bigger and deeper Graves line. The Eagles play smash mouth football and I feel they will be able to put up some points against the Cards, but, I think Mayfield's speed and ability to mix the pass and run, will also put some points up. Should be a very good game, especially being a crosstown rivalry and high intensity. I like Mayfield to win in a pretty close game...31 to 21....

  8. Those ratings are hogwash. They are every year. I don't see how they even print those ratings. Every year they are off base. 2A is not weak. Russell, Mercer, Belfry, Newport, Trigg, Ft. Campbell, Corbin, Middlesboro, ect. I think I've proven my point.

Not really...Newport just lost to NCC, which is there only win,,,Didn"t Ft Campbell just get hammered by a less than mediocre Madisonville team..Didn't Belfry lose to an Ashland team who was just coming off a loss to a mediocre 1a team in Raceland...has Corbin really been that impressive...There's 4 of the 8 i can as easily make a point against...I do think in past years, 2a has been given some unfair press about it's strength, but, IMO, this year it seems to be down..I don't see that dominent team like Breathitt was a few yrs ago or Belfry was a little more recently and it seems to be weaker even in the 6-10 rankings, wheras in past years, they've had solid teams in the lower part of the top 10

  9. Has the Heath kid had injury problems in the past? It seems like they've had a Heath on their roster every year and I thought last year or in 04 a Heath was out with a injury.

Not the same heath...that was his brother 2 years ago, who suffered a season ending injury...This years version is a huge loss as he is the only returning o-lineman and plays both ways, definately the best lineman the Cards have, so, him being out any substantial time is really a big blow...hopefully it's not serious

  10. Great win by the Cards...This team never quit and seemed to really control the game in the 2nd half...Shelton played one of his best games of his career..He's a serious weapon with his arms , legs and now being a 3 yr starter, his leadership...His stats were 13-21, 173 yds and 1 td thru the air and had 16 carries for 106 yds and 2 scores on the ground...The Cardinal line did a great job giving him time to throw and he threw some bullets all over the field...If this Cardinal team can get there defense to stop arm tackling and improve some in the secondary, this team could be special by the end of the year...

  11. IMO, if Mayfield pulls this one out, it will be an upset...Don't take alot of stock in the Male loss, as there aren't but maybe a handful of teams in the state who could fair much better..I do think the Cards will be able to move the ball and put some points on the board and there defense is pretty solid, although not very deep..The weather, if pleasant, will help Mayfields depth issues, but, they'll have to avoid the turnover bug that plagued them last week..Home field advantage probably won't be a big factor..Hopkinsville still has some very solid athletes and more depth across the board..I look for Mayfield to come out strong and build a lead and hang on for dear life in the final quarter...Mayfield 24 Hop'town 20...

  14. Final

A few observations.... Marshall Co is a very talented and deep team and there star jr rb - Alan Williams is a stud...he can carry a team by himself, but doesn't have too because they can mis the run and pass very well.. if they have a weakness, it's in there kicking and punting game...

Mayfield will look back on this game and see a fumble at the marshall 1 yd line, giving up a 55 yd punt return as time was running out in the 1st half and another critical fumble in the red zone in the 3rd qtr and use these things to build on later in the season..If theres such a thing as a good loss, this would probably be one..
