  1. Well, Fulton County wasn't very competitive with either of those teams. Lake County isn't ranked, and didn't even get a vote, in Tennessee's Class A poll.

Fulton County has yet to show that it can play with a team of Mayfield's caliber.

Lake Co was the preseason favorite in rgn7, 1a, ahead of Union City, who was state runnerup last year..They were upset by Union City a couple of weeks back, blowing a large lead late in the game...Prior to that, they were ranked in the 6 to 10 range and in most preseason polls...They, in fact are a very solid team and will probably make it fairly deep into the playoffs....I don't think they are on par with, say a Mayfield, but, if I were to compare them, it would be to a Caldwell Co or some of the better, past Crittenden teams...

  2. I see the Cards comming out early and often putting the game away early. Mayfield wins 42-7 and the JV gets in some quality 2nd half minutes

This could very well happen, but, Mayfield has sort of a jekyl & hyde mentality...Up one game, down the next...It seems when they're heads are in it, they can be very good and when not, they get lax and turnover prone..

  3. Bardstown's the type of program that doesn't rebuild, they reload..Last year they had some of the quickest skilled players I've seen in long time, but, were a little smallish in the lines and that hurt them..I do know alot of that same line is back, but, they lost several of those skilled kids, so, if they can fill those shoes, they have the potential to be better than last year, cause usually at the HS level, games are won in the trenches...

  4. Fulton City and Fulton Co are both vastly improved from previous years... Murray and Ballard are really down, so the 2 Fultons will most likely be 2 and 3seeds behind Mayfield..I don't think either can take Mayfield, but, either will compete with any other rgn 1, 1a team...

It's hard to get a fix on Fulton City...There winning big and undefeated, but, there competition level has been very weak thus far...They could use that early season success to build confidence and be a dangerous foe or they could actually play a good team, ala Mayfield, and get a real reality check..

  5. Both teams come into the game with identical 4-2 records...The difference this year, imo, is Fulton Co has beefed up it's schedule from years past, playing the likes of Lex Lafayette, a strong 4a school and Lake Co., Tn, a 1a powerhouse in Tn., which makes me believe they feel they can compete on a bigger scale...I believe the Cardinals will be heavy favorites simply based on past performance and tradition, but, it wouldn't surprise me to see a much closer game than people may think...The Pilots #s are up this year and they've always had good athletes, just lacked depth..Is this the year, ala 1993, that Fulton Co. gets over the hump and knocks off the Cardinals or will it be a lopsided Mayfield victory..

I say it'll be close for awhile, then Mayfields depth will put a couple of 4th qrt scores up to pull away....35-14

  6. A true dark horse in Class A is Bethlehem. They just knocked off Louisville Holy Cross and have dispatched their other opponents with ease. They in all likelihood will be undefeated when they play Bardstown on Oct. 27th. If they play at their peak, Bethlehem has enough individual athletes to compete with Bardstown, and they competed with Danville last year in the first round and got everybody back. A few bounces and good breaks here and there and it is not outside the realm of possibility for them to be playing in a region championship game.

They most likely will be undefeated when Bardstown comes calling, but, that's when reality will set in...

  7. Class A's Fulton City Bulldogs 5-0 on the season, could this be the Hoosier story of KY HS Football? This is one of the states smallest football playing schools. They are averaging 41 points a game while allowing 9.2 per game. The most points they have given up this year is 14 and their closest game was a 30-8 win.

Yeah, but when Reidlands your toughest game, that not's saying much

  8. No offense to the Cardinals, but Warren Central is a bit ahead of Mayfield.

Thats a matter of opinion..I'm sure they're deeper, as they should be, being a 4a school, but, not necessarily better...If they did play each other, I would bet it would be a pretty close game, like the Hopkinsville and Tilghman games are, every year...

  9. These two are jokes this week. Undefeated or no, Marshall County at #7 after their performance against Greenwood, and Apollo at #10 after their LAST SECOND win over Daviess County is a joke.

Marshall Co I can see...There style of play is ball control and that doesn't always lead to big blowouts, but, they are definately a very fundamentally sound team thats also pretty deep...I agree with you on Apollo...I could name at least 10 teams below them that shouldn't be...

  10. Graves has the ability to pass, but, they've been so successful running it, they haven't had to..W.Central is not as good as last year and Graves is better, therefore, it should be a very close game..I like Graves line play this year and will give them a slight edge, but, home field advantage could offset that...I'll take Graves 21-7

  11. Yes, their combined enrollment is under 400.

About 15 years ago, the state was encouraging Fulton City, Fulton County and Hickman County to explore the idea of consolidating their school systems. I believe the state was offering, with the use of technology, to make a new multi-county school a prototype for similar consolidations in the future. If memory serves, Hickman County's board nixed any discussions of the issue.

If they put all 3 together I'd think they would be at least a 3a team in the 6 class system and at least 2a in the current system...all 3 schools have approx 200-250 kids...

  12. Has anyone else noticed, or is it just me, that the Instate Ky players are the ones stepping up and making the most plays...Woodson looked very solid when he had time to throw...Pulley looked like a top notch receiver and made several big plays.. David Jones, Myrun Pryor, Micah Johnson, Keenan Burton and others made some big plays.. It's fun to root for a team when you at least know alot of there players..

  13. Just hope the boys can get past all the people telling them how great of a game they played and congratulation them on the win and get focused to take on Fulton County Friday night. Talent wise Mayfield should win this one...but if the Cards come out and still reveling in Sunday's win then it could be closer than what it should.

Who would have ever thought Fulton Co(4-2) and Fulton City(5-0) being your strongest competition...These 2 teams are very similar and would probably be a tossup when they play, but, Fulton Co. has played much better competition, so, I'd give them the edge..Lex Lafayette is top 10 4a team in some polls and Lake Co.,Tn was the preseason pick to win Rgn7, 1a in Tn, so, these 2 teams are formidable...Hope the Cards don't overlook them...

  14. Mayfields schedule will make them stronger come district time, which starts this week..There offense didn't look great but the field conditions and windy weather played a roll in that...I agree, this team has alot of heart and never quits and now that they'll be playing same size schools and getting all there players back healthy, this could shape up to be another long run in the playoffs...there defense is looking much better from week to week after they made some personnel changes and moved some people around...

  15. Hopkinsville's tough early season schedule will only help them when district play rolls around. I still look for them to be the class of district 1 and probably the 2nd best team in the region behind BGreen..they have a solid Rb, Qb duo and there offense will be fine..My only question with them was there defense, especially in the line. They aren't real big up front but seem to be getting better each week...It should come down to them and Pad Tilghman, when its all said and done..
