  1. Yeah, but their companion district is also weak. Over that stretch of time, the Cardinals have probably had as easy a path to the State Semi's than than any other team in any class.

That's not a cut on Mayfield. To the contrary, it's says a lot about the program that it's stayed so competitive at the State level while District 1 has overall been so poor (occasionally good Murray teams notwithstanding).

    :bunny:

I would venture to say that a few of those Crittenden, Hancock and Metcalfe teams could have won region 4 in several of those years, especially when Somerset was playing in the district with Danville and Pikeville was having some down years...

  2. Who was Mayfield's toughest local competitors (district 1 and 2) when they were 2A ??

    Glasgow?...Murray ?...Tompkinsville (now consolidated)?...Ft. Campbell ?...who ?

Actually, alot of those years, Ft Campbell was in 1a, but, yes they were in 2a with them for awhile..Murray, Caldwell Co.,Webster Co & Reidland were in there, but, honestly, I can't remember who else...I believe Oboro Cath and Glasgow were in the other district, but, thats the only ones I can remember off the top of my head......

  3. Personally, I think Hopkinsville would beat Graves County if they played ... it would be close, but I would go with the Tigers.

Not to mention that Graves would probably get more out of playing Hopkinsville then they have some of their other non-district opponents.

I think it would be close too, but, I'd lean towards Graves...I think there bigger, stronger lines would be the difference...Hoptown's big play capability would keep them in the game, but, I can't imagine them being able to keep Graves from pounding it right at them...

I agree, Graves could use another good non-conference game, but, with the likes of Marshall, Christian, WCentral in there district and Mayfield and Tilghman as non district games, they play a pretty good schedule already...

  4. Mayfield has played a fairly weak (comparitively) district for 20 years, and has gotten to the semi-state game like 19 of the past 22 seasons or something.

Up until 95, Mayfield was playing in 2a and dominated there region as much as they do now in 1a....Basically, because of there dominence, theres a misconception about the whole region, which, I have to admit, has been weak alot of times, but, not as weak as one may think...

  5. Actually, Crittenden Co, Metcalfe Co and Hancock Co have had some very good teams over the past few years, but, all 3 play a less than stellar schedule and most people don't give them the credit they're due..And then Mayfield puts a shelacking on them and everyone says I told you so..I believe some of those teams could compete with most 1a teams with exception of the Beechwoods, NCCs, Mayfields and Danvilles, but, there's not too many who could....Murray has had a few good teams but have really been down the past couple of years...

  6. Both of those wins were several weeks ago, and there's some evidence that Tilghman has improved quite a bit since them. I thought at the time that Tilghman and Graves were about even, and the Tornado may be a bit ahead of them right now.

Wouldn't argue with you there...My point was Graves and Tilghman should both be ahead of Hopkinsville.. No other voter has them ranked any higher than #8 and they're not even ranked in some polls, but, TT has them at 6. I just think thats way too high and i'm not alone in that thought..

  7. Which of these teams will make the farthest run in the playoffs? Pick 1 from each classification and your reasoning for picking them. These are your "Not so Well Known" teams across the state, who've had a great year and most likely to knock off the traditional big boys..

    Heres your candidates:

1a - Metcalfe Co., Bethlehem, Frankfort, Cov Holy Cross, Raceland, Harlan, Lex Christian

2a - Caldwell Co., Monroe Co., Larue Co., Washington Co., Newport, Sheldon Clark, Fleming Co.

3a - Warren East, Doss, Franklin Co, Johnson Central, Clay Co, E.Jessamine, Valley

4a - Graves Co., Owens Sr., Campbell Co, Lincoln Co, Tates Creek, GRC, N. Hardin

I believe these are the most likely to move on...

1a-Harlan - Plain and simple, I'm basing this on what district there in..They are pretty much on an even playing field with Somerset and Pikeville and it wouldn't shock me if they pulled it off...

2a-Larue Co.- Western is the only other strong team in there district and they could have peaked too early after there performance last week, so, i feel they've got a good shot...

3a- Johnson Central - Clearly the best team in there district. only question mark is lack of playoff or big game experience. Should be the favorite to win region and then only need 1 big win against a CC or Highlands and they're there..

4a- Owens Sr. - Teams not been talked about alot this year, but, they've got a great defense and don't have to play the Lville region teams till at least the finals and should be able to compete with any team before that..

  8. I'm not one to question other people's opinions but will defend myself when others want to call me out.

It wasn't a convincing loss to PT. PT was given a gift TD after recovering a fumble inside the 10 on a punt return on a questionable call. They scored later on a bobbled punt snap. Hoptown was in the game well into the final few minutes of the 4th quarter. PT made the plays to win and congratulations to them.

I've been forutnate to talk with sveral Coaches around the region and take some of what they say and put them into my rankings.

Call it homerism if you wish. I call it knowing more about Hopkinsville than others on the board do. That's for the staff of coaches that was at the Hoptown Calloway Co. game a few weeks and spent a good portion of the game trying to figure out who Tigertalker was and questioning every other coach in the state. Glad to see they pay attention when I talk. I will release the Tigertalker book in the spring.

Not meaning to call you out TT..I've read a good # of your posts and you know what your talking about when it comes to the Tigers....I wasn't aware of how the game was played, just looked at the score and it looked pretty convincing on the scoreboard...I would personally have PT higher and according to most pollsters on here, they would too...Considering Graves beat both PT and Mayfield, who both beat Hopkinsville and was coming off a solid win over Marshall Co. and have an 8-2 record, I'd put them ahead as well...Noone is questioning Hoptowns athleticism and capabilities, but, fact is, it's what you do on the field that matters and frankly they've been less than stellar all year...I know they've had some injuries, but, so has everyone else and thats a part of it...

  9. I know alot of folks put alot of stock in schedule strength...Do you feel a weak district helps a team or hurts a team...Normally, teams last 4-5 weeks of the regular season are played against district competition...Here's several reasons you could go either way:

    1) Easier district schedule can help you heal injuries and rest your starters...

    2) Easier district schedule usually means you have a better chance of going farther in the playoffs and may only have to knock out 1 or 2 good teams instead of 3-4 to get to state...

    3) Easier district schedule can help you work on areas in your teams game that you may not try against better competition...

    1) Tougher district schedule helps you be better prepared come playoff time and usually requires your starters to play more meaningful minutes...

    2) Tougher district schedules keep you from becoming complacent...

    3) Tougher district schedules will exploit your teams weak areas and make you more aware of what you need to work on...

  10. BIG:

    1) Bowling Green

    2) Warren Central

    3) Owensboro

    4) Christian Co.

    5) Henderson Co.

    6) Hopkinsville

    7) Paducah

    8) Graves Co.

    9) Marshall Co.

    10) Warren East

Is there a little homerism with Hopkinsville....Even after a convincing loss to Tilghman, you still rank them higher and then rank them ahead of Graves and Marshall too...WOW...I can see still putting them in the Top 10, but, I'd venture to say, noone else will have them close to this high...

  11. Which of these teams will make the farthest run in the playoffs? Pick 1 from each classification and your reasoning for picking them. These are your "Not so Well Known" teams across the state, who've had a great year and most likely to knock off the traditional big boys..

  12. Maybe I am having a hard time doing math today, but I dont see where those number add up to 80 points a game. If you take the highest number of the averages he gave everyone they add up to just 70, and then if you take the smallest number off all the averages he gave them then it adds up to 64. So if you take the middle number between the 2 it would be 67. I know you probably would have to take a few more number to that for the guys on the bench who would play that he didn't mention, but they probably wouldn't have that big of a number for points a game. So I see around maybe 75 or so points a game from his projections, and I dont see that as being that far off...

And i said the bench would add an additional 15 pts which is abt as close to 80 as you can get

  13. I've thought all year that Trigg was the best 2a team in the region...They're 8-2 and lost to Ft Campbell in a come from behind game earlier in the year and had 1 real poor outing against Caldwell..Other than that, they've been solid...Ft Campbell comes in as probably the hottest team and have been very sound the last 4-5 weeks, with convincing wins...I think most will go with Ft Campbell at the base, but, for some reason, I think Trigg will pull this one out...TC 21 FtC 14

  14. A couple of possible interesting matcup in a #1 versus #4 will be Christian County taking on Marshall County. These two teams played a few weeks ago with Christian County coming away with a hard fought win. Could be a interesting first round matchup.

That would be a good one, but Marshall plays at Warren Central and Graves plays at Christian

  15. NCC will pull the upset in round 2 against Beechwood and LCA will upset NCC in the 3rd round and then make it Papa Johns after a hard fought semi final win over a determined but out manned Pikeville ....Danville will get its revenge in the 2nd round against Frankfort, but, it won't matter, cause Bardstown will take the 3rd round game and host Mayfield, who'll cruise into the semi's for a repeat of last years game...Bardstown, with the home field and revenge factor will make the trip to Papa Johns to take on LCA...LCA comes out strong early but wears down late and the speed and big play Tigers take the trophy...Thats my prediction...

  16. Yes...I think Rondo and Bradley are both very quick and good penetrators.. You'll notice I didn't say Bradley was a better assist man, just as good a penetrator and I think with him better knowing his role, he'll dish the ball more and is certainly more capable of putting the ball in the basket. Rondo got alot of his points after steals and on fast breaks, but, seldom scored off offensive sets. Thats where Bradley one ups him imo...To your other point, I think these #s are very realistic..the points you mention are from 6 players, not 5, so, some of these will come from the bench and no, I don't expect alot of points from the others coming off the bench, but, each of the subs I mentioned will have some games they score 8-10 points, but, I would expect the average in the 15 range, therefore, team average would be in the 79 range total which i think is pretty close...
