From what I was told about the game with Pendleton County it doesn't sound like a crushing defeat to me; or has Pendleton County improved? I didn't get a chance to be a spectator at this game and have only heard secondhand. The Lady Mustangs SHOULD win the 10th Region All A, but Paris could have something to say about that in the end. However from what I hear, I believe Montgomery County will still win the 10th Region.

How did the second night of games turn out? Any stats or info?

Mason and Harrison did not look good??? Could this just be a case of preseason butterflies or could this mean that both districts could be closer than in the past? Conner have any new stand out players? I'm surprised at the Bourbon- Brossart game; doesn't Brossart return the majority of their starters from last year? Did anyone attend the games at the elementary school?

Did anyone attend this today? How did Scott and Brossart look? What other teams played well?

Gentleman, I believe the obvious point we are overlooking is not arguing which region is best, but how far the girl's game has come in a pretty short time period. I think a case could be made for the best region being the 9,10, 11, or the 16th. Kauinui is a good player and probably underrated I agree with Tubbycat on that, but we only have ten spots. I've seen her play a few times and she is a hardnosed player I still believe that Montgomery wins the region based on talent AND the emotional factor with Coach High retiring The potential for Harrison County to lose that grip on the 38th is a real possibility. Brossart should be loaded and dominate other district opponents.

Mac always has his team ready to play. Seed or Draw, to be number one you have to win on the hill. I believe the fight will be for second place in the district. I'm sure Harrison and Pendleton County would love to seed the district, but it would not be in the best interest of Deming and Nicholas County to vote for seeding.

My predictions: 1) Bishop Brossart- returns a lot of players that are experienced 2) Scott- should be on the upswing this season 3) Campbell County- 2nd or 3rd in district a possibilty, always ready to play 4) Calvary Christian- young players still getting experience 5) Silver Grove- will they field a team this year??

What is the outlook for Greenup this season? Will this factor into any decision made?

Yahoo!!!! I'll just take my prize in the cash out option. It seems really late to be making any kind of move. I would think a change at this time of the year could mean a waste of an entire season for a team.

I was thinking that one of the school's in the 16th called their gym the Greenhouse........I thought it was in reference to that.

I agree with you Professor, girls do take things a different way than boys. It seems as they enter High School they start losing their aggressiveness; not all of them do this, but a majority will. I have been coaching for a long time and have learned that the way I deliver criticism to a female player is totally different than the way I would motivate a male player. When I first started coaching I treated both genders the same, but as I matured as a coach I found that to be the wrong aproach. As a coach the best equalizer to defeating cliques and arguments is the bench. Of course the silly things players argue about will still drive you crazy!!! Parents is a subject I won't even waste your time on....there are good and bad ones no matter where you coach. I believe the key word for girl's bball is simply JEALOUSY.

IMO girls are easier to coach than the boys, but with girls you have to be ready to deal with a lot of other issues besides basketball. I have known a few coaches that have came over from the boys side and all of them have said they feel burned out after a couple of seasons of coaching girls. I think the Double Standard exists because of the notion that boy's bball is a quicker paced more aggressive game and more attention is given to boy's bball. How many AD's attend the girl's game regularly. The idea that because a coach was successful coaching boys so they will be successful coaching girls does not only transcend in reality.

What happened to Coach Evans?

Coach Fite seemed to have this team headed in the right direction, but now with his departure who will Lewis County turn too to take charge of the program? The late date of the coaching move could effect the choices available. Will the administration promote from within the program to keep continuity since the first day of school is rapidly approaching?

True, a lot of players max out in the 8th grade and the late developers start catching up and passing them talentwise. They lose interest in sports and discover boys in that summer between middle school and high school which continues to get worse the older they get. Also, at the HS level the time commitment and what most programs require is very different than what was required at MS level. This is quite a shock to some players and their desire to excel at basketball diminishes. And with girls one of the biggest factors is plain out jealousy of other players that can kill your chemistry in the wink of an eye.

In an earlier discussion with TubbyCat on the boy's thread we both agreed that a double standard exists when picking head coaches. There seems to be no problem with boy's asst. coaches being made head coach of a girl's program or a person with no experience at all being named as head coach. But the reverse does not happen for asst. girl coaches why do you think that is? Does the 9th or 10th region teams not have any good asst. coaches? Is there a bias by AD's? Does the girl's side not have as much turnover rate as the boys? What factors determine this kind of thinking? :confused:

I see a double standard here. It doesn't seem like schools are having any problem handing the girl's programs over to assistants from the boys side. I agree there is a difference and I don't see handing a girl's program over to an assistant that comes straight from the boy's side.. I am under the belief that most school sytems work under the assumption that if a teacher is interested in a coaching position that they are to be considered before any non-teacher can be expected. I believe a job must be posted unless you are hiring from within your system.

What direction do you believe they are heading? What assistants would you suggest? Why would any other assistant be the answer over Coach Riley?

Mason has yet to reach the level that was expected of them the last couple of years. They seem to play well during the regular season then the pressure gets to them in the region. Did Mason get a new assistant coach again this year?

Coach Riley would bring a lot of hard work an emotion to the job. What kind of staff would he have in place or would he be able to bring people in? Does he already live in Bracken County?
