  1. So do you feel sorry for the "poor kids of Trinity or St. X" because their school of 1300 or 1500 boys has only ONE football team -- thus depriving all those "significant numbers of young people" the experience of playing football?

Seems like they all seem to enjoy supporting a team that wins the state championship virtually very year.

Until they decide it would be in their best interests to divide into two teams, doing something radical like the above is the only way to REALLY make up for what I feel is the biggest advantage they have.

I don't see THEM doing that in the near future (nor do I blame them)...and it's starting to become obvious that none of schemes to "punish" them are going to achieve making 4A football any more competitive either.

...and, I personally believe in teaching young people the TOUGH lessons of COMPETITION. If you want to play football and you're good enough to start on many other teams but not good enough to beat someone out on YOUR team (like MANY of the 100+ players at X and T), you have two choices: quit and do something else (there are MANY other worthwhile things to do as a student-athlete besides football -- and I'm pretty biased!), or stay on the team and play an important role in some other way than on the field at game-time.

    :thumb: Very well said Coach.

  2. Congratulations to both players. I think they will adjust to the maroon easy enough.

Painter: How many local players does that make at CU now?

I know that queston was for another but I think that Ashland has 3, Lawrence Co. has 2 and East Carter has 1. Counting Lacks (Raceland) and Hunter (Boyd) our area is very well represented at CU :ylsuper: . Maybe some fans that are closer to the programs other than Raceland could help with this.

  3. Congrats to Boyd Co.'s Austin Hunter - He was signed by Campbellsville University to play football there this fall. Austin will also walk on the C-Ville baseball team. This is two area kids that I know of that have signed with Campbellsville; Chris Lacks (Raceland) for Football and Track - Austin Hunter (Boyd Co.) for Football and Baseball. It is great to see our area's kids get an oppurtinity at the next level. :thumb: :ylsuper: :thumb: :ylsuper:

  4. Owens has a lot of talent but needs to grow up. Watched him in the game and the Friday night festivities and he was always running his mouth. Put on a pretty good show in the slam dunk contest but got it handed to him in the one-on-one competition by an Ohio player all the while running his mouth. Any Div. I school that takes a chance on him is getting a talented player but a head case. I mean how do you get yourself thrown out of an all-star game. Grow up youngman, the time for you is now. Don't blow it.

  5. Gosh Rambler, I'll just have to go ahead and agree with you on that last part - no sense causing dissent :D

People may listen to me - but I'm not sure if it's in shock or awe:p

I like the new UK avatar. Between that and the emoticons you're just becoming a computer wizard these days;)

I can't decide the best playoff scenario. It kinda sounds like one of the factors in the 6 class idea is that the less number of schools in each class will allow for everyone to be in the playoffs. At face value it sounds good but still doesnt seem to address the #1/#4 imbalances. A bye sounds like a good reward but from being around enough coaches I'm guessing they prefer playing each week rather than a bye. I remember one of the few years when Russell was in our district and we both had a bye before the playoffs began (not sure if a lot of the teams did also or not?). I think it bothered the coaches to get out of that routine - but who knows:confused:

    Cheers, Woody Jr

I will just address the last part (week off) since it aleady been established that we know everything:lol: . I remember the week off before the playoffs also, at that time I had not gotten to know a lot of coaches at that time. One scenerio is that the week off reward would give you more preparation time and extra time for injuries to heel. On the other hand it would break your routine that you had been going on all season. I personaly do not like as many teams making the playoffs, I know that when they get right down to it is is about $$$ imo but playoffs give a team / school something to strive for. I remember one year right after Ky. went to 4 teams from a district going, Greenup Co. was in a four team district, won one game all season(Ithink) and were 0-4 in district play. They made the playoffs by default! I am not knocking GCHS, just is one example that I could think of - I am sure that there were others across the state. Having said all of that I love high school football and will support it no matter what it done or decidied :thumb:

  6. I've also heard that only 3 players from each school were nominated. I believe Ian Holbrook,Angel Gurule, and Tyler Reliford are playing for Ashland. At this point i would conisder the east to be the favorite.

Another question... why would this game be at Fairview? No offense but they probably have the worst football complex of all the schools listed.

You got that one right :thumb:

  7. Woody, I agree with what you said about the travel distance. I know that Raceland is in a class A district that includes LCA, Berea, Paris, Nicholas Co.( 11/2 to 2hr or longer drives). I persoanlly for years would have like to had seen Raceland go up to AA in the local AA district. The travel would be closer with that District being Russell, East C., West C.,Lewis Co.,Fleming Co,Morgan Co. and I think Powell and Estill Co. (those two I think would be the furthest). Raceland, I believe could compete in this district and actually fair better in the first couple of rounds in the playoffs raher than having to play the northern Ky. district with powers such as Beechwood, New Cath and Bellevue every year. I at least would love to see the class A district playoffs rotate on which district plays another in the playoffs each year. I know that B.T. Ross lobbied for that for years when he was at Raceland. As for the AA district that I mentioned, that district is full with 8 teams and I don't know if a shuffle in the districts could be done or not. (move one or two of this districts teams into another maybe with smaller number of teams or what). Finally Woody, I also agree that 4 teams going to the playoffs from each district is too many. IMO I could maybe see three with the district champ getting a bye in the first round and the #2 playing #3. That would give teams something more to strive for as winning the district title. Oh well Woody, wouldn't it all be better if they would just listen to you and I   I don't think they realize how bright we really are:p  :D :thumb:
