  1. Hines Ward plays football without an ACL.

Not disputing what you say could happen, just saying there are instances out there of competitors playing without the benefit of the ACL. I believe former Buffalo Bills Running Back Thurman Thomas also played with a torn or missing ACL.

Yes TBF but Thurman Thomas was an adult, professional football player. this kid is/was a freshman in high school. I cannot believe that a coach and especially any parent would allow this girl to play. Freshman, what is that 14 or 15 years old? I blame the parents MORE than I blame the coach and I blame the coach plenty. I have coached youth sports in the past and cannot imagine letting a kid play with the potential of what an injury like that could do. Having to sit the tourney out I am sure would get to a kid, they are competitors and want to play no matter what. Adults have to step in on this. After all, this is a freshman in h.s. - three more years of basketball ahead of her and longer if she is college material. Rehab the knee and have a productive h.s. carrer and maybe longer instead of risking what could possibly happen, if there is even a chance of permanent injury she doesn't play (IMO)

  2. Just to clarify Frances, Keith hit .575 his senior year and hit over 400 in three of his four years, freshman year was .370. My own post got me to checking back in some records. He was All State honorable mention in football, not All State. Hey, that was just over 30 yrs. ago - he graduated in 74' and I in 75' - hard to remember some things that far back - lol.

  3. I played a little softball with Kenny Lacks, but I was unaware that he was one of several at Raceland. I think that for it's size, Raceland seems to have turned out an unusually high number of pretty good athletes through the years.

    Frances

Thanks for the compliment on Raceland,Frances. The Lacks boy that signed scholarship at C-Ville this year was Chris, his dad is Keith Lacks and was a standout football and baseball player at Raceland in the 70's, He was MVP in baseball for his jr. and sr. year with a four year ba of 475 (I think) and All State football (courrier journal) linebacker his senior year. Kenny's boy is Mike, who was the excellent defensive end at Raceland under B.T. Ross in the 80's. Keith played American Legion baseball with M. Gothard in the 70's. Sorry to go on, but I respect the Ashland tradition and appreciate your kind words about Raceland, we feel that we have had a tradition of our own down here.

  4. There's nothing like genetics!

I know that very well, kick - there has been some of those down here at Raceland through the years as well. The latest was the Lacks kid that recently signed with Campbellsville University for football and was invited to walk on for track there as well.. I think that the Lacks family, including cousins, uncles, nephews and all has had 16 or 17 family members go through the program and every one of them were very productive. I bleed Raceland orange and black but have always admired Ashland's program and what they stand for.

  5. Raceland was very talented and has the entire team returning - no seniors at all on this years team. Seals, Vanderhoof and Porter will be key imo. They definately have the talent but Rose Hill, Russell, West and Ashland imo will be tough outs. All of those have tourney titles in the past and "have been there before". The Lady Rams should be right in the mix.

  6. I remember Taylor when he was going to elementary school in Ashland. He was always a big, mean kid. I believe Taylor played high school ball down in Georgia didnt he?

Yes, it was Walton High School, a 5A class school near Atlanta. He was selected to the all Cobb County team and the Marietta Journal all star team. At linebacker he had 126 tackles with 10 behind line of scrimmage - also was a running back and had 429yds. My info came from a good friend that was good friends and a team member of his fathers (Mike) on the Post 76 american legion baseball team. He has been following the Mike's son h.s. career via the i-net from time to time.

  7. The son of former Ashland Tomcat star Mike Gothard, Mike Taylor Gotthard has signed to play football at Western Ky. University. He is a 6'1", 225lb linebacker. Mike (father) was a standout for the Tomcats in 1974 and he went on to play college football at Vanderbilt. Report says that U.K. offered but only as a preferred walk on (this is the same thing they offered former Raceland star A. Pettry who is now with Ohio State). Gotthard turned down Murray State to attend WKU. Congrats to Gotthard.

  8. I would agree with talking with coaches in your area, especially if you know any of them very well. They may be able to use you and if not they probably could put you in contact with someone who could and what seminars, clinics, etc. that they would advise that you look at.

  9. Just please don't try and put the jersey on. Ha!Ha!

What year was the Ramblers officially changed to Rams?

I believe that it was around 1974 or so, when football coach Larry Heck came to Raceland he started it and it just kind of stuck. I graduated in 75' and the name was the "Rams" then. Don't worry, the basketball jersey is like the golf shirt that I have from h.s. days - probably couldn't pull it down over me now - lol.
  10. Other schools that showed interest in Chris were: Ohio Dominican, Mt. St. Joesph, Geneva College, Bluffton University, Ky. Weselyan, Wittenburg University and Dennison University. Chris was invited and had workouts at Mt. St. Joesph and Ohio Dominican.Chris also had letters on inquiry from several other schools. He had two visits to Campbellsville and decided on them after his second visit. He was impressed with the interest Campbellsville showed in him, coaching staff, personel, the campus and overall experience.

  11. I was just talking to Chris and his dad, looks like Chris will now be a two sport athlete at Campbellsville University. Chris, in addition to already signing with the Tiger's to play football this fall has now been contacted and offered a spot on the Track team at Campbellsville as well. Chris will be member of the track team in the spring of 2007. Chris was regional champion pole vaulter with Raceland last year and also placed 3rd in the region in both the 110 and 300yd. hurdles. Outstanding athlete and even better person - well deserving of these honors.

  12. Hey TBF, I didn't catch that spelling mistake even after reading over before posting. English wasn't my best subject at Raceland - lol. That it what is so good about BGP - most exchanges are all in good fun and I am able to take a razzing with the best of them. (and I still have an old basketball jersey with"Ramblers" and not Rams on the front - lol.")

  13. I think that all that amounted to was just Whitney being Whitney, a typical teenager spending time and having fun with friends. I understand that Whitney bleeds orange and black - lol. I can say that I never heard a bad word or comment on her and that she is a really nice person/kid that has a lot of friends everywhere.

  14. I do not have a dog in this fight so forgive me for adding comments if I shouldn't. I do not know nor do I care to know what has went on behind the scene at Russell. What I do know is that I see a coach that is a very good coach - Plays his best players no matter what year of school that they are in. Coach Dodd probably goes a lot on who performs in practice and deserves to play and not what fans or parents think they know his job better than he does have to say. I would not blame the man at all if he does apply for different jobs. Believe me Russell fans - you could do a lot worse.

  15. Good points have also been made on the cost factor of a shot clock, to me a shot clock would have to be installed and some schools just cannot afford it. If not a clock, like fletch was saying you almost have to have a extra official at the scorers table to keep such a clock and that would be more expense also. These things would almost have to be necessary to do this, if not - how would you like to be a coach having some "good ole boy" from the home town school controlling a shot clock? Some places have enough trouble with the regular game clock.

  16. I am NOT in favor of A shot clock in h.s. basketball. No shot clock allows for coaches that have a undermanned team to manage the clock to give their team a chance to win if that is how they choose to play it. Defense's can use tighter D's, traps, etc to negate this if they choose. I don't really like an all out stall, but coaches are there to give their kids the best chance to win that they can. If this style offense is how the coach feels is his best chance for the talent that he has then he should have the ability to use it. The "Princeton" style offense is not a stall and to me anyway is a pure form of basketball. Back screens, back door cuts, give-n-go,precise passing game to me is great to watch. What it all boils down to is that a coach should be able to use whatever style of play that he deems necessary to fit his style and his team.
