Southeast Ky vs. Southwest Va. Friday March 31st 8:00pm Letcher County Central High School Gym. Im pretty sure this will be the first ever sporting event inside LCC's new gym. I will post more info as it becomes available to me.

Im not criticizeing any refs, i know they work hard to get the job done and without them sports wouldnt be possible. However, Ky wrestling officals are just horrible from what ive seen. Dont get me wrong there are many out there who do a great job, but there seems to be more who doesnt do such a great job. I saw a few calls this week which wher just mind blowing to me, i know for a fact i saw at least 4 matches which were decided by the offical. This should never happen in my opinion. Once a wrestler shot a single had the leg on the line, the defensive wrestler locked his hands through the legs, and they stayed int he same place for 30 seconds. An obvious stalemate, and not to mention the score was tied. No change in position was made for 30 seconds, then as the buzzer sounded the ref turns and gives the shooter a takedown. How could he not call this earlier if no position changed? This would of given the wrestler time ot belly out and possibly get a reversal. Instead they stay in the same position and one wrestler loses the match. I then saw a referee call locking hands from the neutral position, in all my years ive never seen that. One thing that upset me the most about the week, was the ref who wouldnt move to position and watch back points, he simply walkd around the wrestlers abd counted by his hip. not one time would he go to the mat to count backs he just stood and counted beside them, to me this is unacceptable. I agree with the OP about stalling, very inconsistent. There was another situation to where wrestlers where on there feet in OT and a ref called stalling and awarded the match to the other wrestler, when both wrestlers where just in a ear to ear tie up. BTW, none of these matches were any of my kids, so im in no way complaining because of that, i honestly had no complaints with any of the matches we had. Chris Spurlock PCC Wrestling

Thanks CougarMania, I asked Rex to tell them we appreciate everything they have done for us this year, in case he forgot could you please do the same? To be a first year program Letcher Central did an outstanding job, and i only see them getting much better in the future. They have a great coach, great talent, and great support. Definatley all the key ingrediants to a sucessful program. Other than my 125 and 189 Perry Central will also be in a new stage next year. I plan on doing some heavy recruiting at the grade school level, as well as incomming freshman to try to get to the kids before they fall into the spotlight trap of wanting to play basketball. ( Not an easy task at PCC). SO hopefully when it comes time to roll the mats out next year PCC will fill a full squad for the first time, and with some hard work and commitment from everyone involved turn PCC into a great program who can compete with anyone in the state. Yes she lost, she put up a very tough match though. The kid she wrestled was a tough wrestler and probably would of been a number 1 seed had he not been in the same region as Sullivan. PCC Wrestling

Only error i see is the 103 weight class. Ashlands 103 was Dq'd because of a bite, so letcher centrals 103 moved up to 4th and qualifies for state. This also moved Chris Cory to 5th as an alternate. Chris Spurlock PCC WRESTLING

Penington is inexperienced. Ive had him on the mat about 3 weeks now, but everytime he gets on a mat he improves. I wish i could of had him as a freshman. He had a big weekend in Danville this weekend finishing 3rd in a big tournament. Chris Spurlock PCC wrestling

T shirt ads work well also. Im doing them now for my wrestling team. I picked up the idea in college, i hated doing them at the time but they are a real money deal. In less than a month my wrestlers have got all ads in. Charge 25 or 50 bucks for a sponsor get each kid to do 10-15 ads each. Some peopls will even donate more than you ask. Then get someone to do a nice but inexpensive shirt with your name and logo on the fornt and the sponsors on the back. Sportsworld in hazard are doing my shirts for 5 dollars a shirt. So basically we are making 20 dollars for every ad we sell. Thats a quick 200 bucks a kid. Then you can have them sell the shirts if you have extras. Chris Spurlock PCC wrestling

This was Travis Pennington, he is a Jr. and this was his first ever match. Not bad for a kid who has been on the mat exactly 4 days prior to this match. I would of loved to had him a few years earlier to train. Dials didnt place at 160 unless he got third but i saw him take 3 loses. Jones from PCC Sanders from wayne, and i cant remember who else beat him, but im pretty sure he started the day 0-3. Sanders wrestled up this weekend, and said hes still not sure where he will be come region time. He and Jones had a good match with some questionable calls from a young ref. Not placing the blame anywhere but come region time if Sanders goes 160 he and Jones may have a great match. Alfred Collins 130 Took second to Howard, All my boys have been practicing since tuesday and are in no way wrestling shape yet. I felt like Howard was the better wrestler in this match though, and Alfred will have to work hard the rest of the year to match up come region time. All in all I took 4 wrestlers, Charles Turner went 3-2 and lost 3rd by points. Alfred cCollins 4-1 2nd place. Time Jones 4-1 2nd place. Travis Pennington 3-2 3rd place. Chris Spurlock PCC Wrestling

Does anyone know if coach crum works at the high school? Ive tried emailing him but have not got a reply. I was going to call the school but i wasnt sure if he teaches there or not. Thanks

I have been given the opporunity to help the kids of Perry Co Centrals wrestling team out. I just hated seeing the boys work so hard to be denied a senior season. The problem is, season has already started and we have no schedule or matches. Im only carrying 3 maybe 4 kids so duals wouldnt really benefit us, unless you need fillers.
