Ashland didn’t have a very good showing this weekend at the Tate’s Creek Invitational tournament. We were missing most of our seniors for various reasons. They are all expected back this week – except for Angle Gurule (160) who is out for the season due to an injury.

 

Cody Zacur, a senior, took 1st place in 171

 

Andrew Dillon, a junior, took 4th place in 215.

Cody Zacur is not an Ashland native. His father took a new job here and moved the family from Illinois.

 

I got a chance to meet Cody’s older brothers this weekend. They both live in Pittsburgh and drove down for the tournament. Their father told me that he has been going to wrestling tournaments for 26 years with his sons – both older brothers were wrestlers and seem to be spaced pretty far apart in age. The oldest brother was a high school wrestling coach for a while. Cody’s older brothers taught him to wrestle beginning his lessons at the age of three. It was fun to watch them help Cody warm up – he gave an inspired performance for his brothers this weekend. He won all of his matches by pin in the first round. He won the championship match by pin in 57 seconds.

 

Cody was a ranked wrestler in IL and could make some noise here. I will attach some photos of Cody from Tate’s Creek – I hope that you enjoy them.
