  1. Your right tdyballgame, they all mean something. Great job Birds! This group of Birds will surprise you if your not looking. If nothing else your getting noticed in a very competitive region.:thumb:
  2. I believe they have 5 Seniors on the roster. Of the 5, 4 of them are starters.
  3. Your so right tdyballgame. I can only think of one or two games that this team was simply not as good as the other team. It's nice to see the coaches are not all caught up in winning as much as they are developing players for the next level. As coach says "development, development, development".
  4. HHS won 13-7. HHS had everything going right for them today. A few timely extra base hits and several SUCCESSFUL bunts:thumb: to move runners was the theme of the day. Good starting piching again, solid defense and aggressive base running sealed this one for the Birds. Well done coaches and players!
  5. Those darn Freshman..... Tell us how you really feel Sticky!!!!!! Just joking.:thumb:
  6. HHS swept Newport yesterday at the Varsity and JV levels. I'm not sure but I think the Varsity score was 11-9. The JV had solid pitching by Jake Daily and Donnie Brown along with above average defense. Finally the sticks came around. Final score 13-1. Go Birds!
  7. A voice of reason, knowledge and sense. LN don't let the compliment go to you head.:thumb: :thumb:
  8. I believe the JV and Varsity games were both rained out.
  9. On Tuesday HHS JV beat Reading JV 6-1. Freshman pitcher Cameron Dierig pitched a complete game and was 2 outs away from a shutout. Super tight defense by the Birds. Offensively the team had big hits from Kowolenek, Watson and Dailey (Jake). Travis Alford played tremendously from behind the plate. 3 game winning streak! The coaches have this team headed in the right direction. Go Birds! Improve your bunting boys!
  10. Heard he left in the middle of a game over the weekend and hasn't been back.
  11. You'll never meet two better young men than the two that coach HHS JV, that's for sure. Please keep us all updated on this boy's condition. Although I'd prefer not to re-live such an illness again, I believe it's important to see how prayers, comfort, and sincere gentures help families, communities and teammates come together.
  12. You'll have to wait until until late Saturday evening or early Sunday morning, that's when all the important resident from F.T. return from Florida.......Just joking!
  13. I was at the HHS vs Cov. Cath JV game this afternoon. The players from HHS heard about a Cov. Cath. player that has a serious illness. Out of goodwill and sportsmanship the HHS JV team presented to Cov. Cath. at the end of the game a basket full of "goodies" (sunflower seeds/bubble gum) to forward onto their teammate to cheer him up. The score didn't matter once you saw this occur. It just shows two arch rivals can respect each other and what really matters is compasion for others. I was approached by two gentlemen from Cov. Cath. as I left the field and they both were amazed at the gerture.
  14. This shows HHS can hang with the top teams in N. Ky. One team has their program at the peak, the other is building to get to the top.
  15. They'll get more wins as the season progresses. Remember, for the most part this is a very young team (Freshman). The talent is there and the coaches are remaining positive and encouranging. Once a few of them mature physically they'll be able to match the competition. I have to give credit where it's due, the pleasant surprises are Sophomores Teddy Abner and Jake Daily and Freshman Ben Watson, Steve Kowolenek, Cameron Dierig and Chris Rizzo.
  16. Way to go Birds. Congratulations coaches and players!
  17. Sweeperboy, Burnett Ridge is going to explode when this is read by little Bebe.
  18. Our son plays both baseball and football. He's met with both coaches and neither of them have tried to convince him to play their sport over the other. As a matter of fact, both gentlemen encouraged our son to both sports since he truely enjoys both. Now, that being said, it hasn't been easy. After baseball pracetice he spends an additional 1 to 1.5 hours in weight room three time per week. We usually don't see him unitl 7:00-7:30pm. But at this time it's worth it to him. He knows by playing two sports he needs to work twice a hard as another player that only plays one sport. As difficult as it sounds I believe his commitment and attitude will make him a better athlete at both sports. I agree with LN, the Baseball program at HHS is heading in the right direction. It's just going to take a few kids to understand the two sports can exist without being detrimental to each other.
  19. Luke will be wearing a "Horseshoe" on his hat next year instead of an "H". Best of luck to him.
  20. We know it comes down to money. Most things do. I'd rather not discuss budgets on this type of forum. No doubt it's going to be a collaborative effort by several groups. The players and coaches deserve the best facility possible.
  21. I really believe things can change. I know the city has received alot of criticism over the years for the condition and upkeep of the field. There has already been one meeting between the coaching staff and the Parks Department about the future of the field. A Baseball Committe is being formed to address all issues related to the operation, upkeep and future upgrades to the facilitiy. Things won't be done overnight. It will be a process of phases.
  22. They'll start! Charlie won't be able to control himself otherwise. His love of size over sometimes better smaller players has been witnessed for years. Now, I will say, there have been times when the bigger players were in-fact better players, therefore they should have started without question.
  23. There's certainly alot to be excited about. Everything from the coaching staff and players to the proposed improvement of the "ballpark". This could turnout to be a very good relationship between the city and HHS baseball.
