  1. I grew up in Texas and it isn't who is acclimated or not, it is simple do not sit inside all day and play video games, watch tv and/or lay on the couch. Go outside and do stuff. If kids want to play they will do what needs to be done. This is just an excuse in my opinion. I understand what you are saying about temperatures but it still does not make much of a difference. If all a kid is lay around all summer (what summer they have now) and does nothing, then they will suffer with the heat. They go out even though it is 85 they are still acclimating themselves to the temperatures.
  2. I do not think people believe how hot 105 is. Meaning, 105 is hot but on a 94 degree day it does not take long for it to reach a 105 heat index. I am going to digress here but I also think it is ridiculous to start fall sports on July 10. Move it to August 1 like most states and go from there. I know part of it is probably heat acclamation but start August 1 or the last week of July with 3 days of shells then go full pads. For those kids that played in the final week of baseball, like Bullitt East, St. X, Campbell County & Clark County those kids have 3 weeks off, that is not long. We wonder why kids are getting more injuries, here is your sign.
  3. I am actually ok with not having a heat index for games.
  4. I think you would be surprised what states do and don't have heat index rules. Ohio does not from understanding.
  5. Alex Franzen commits Kentucky Wesleyan Campbell Co Baseball on Twitter: "Congratulations to Alex Franzen on his commitment to play baseball at KWC. @KyWesleyan @datdudeafran #hardworkpaysoff"
  6. Campbell County Seniors: Conner Walsh & Alex Franzen Juniors: Colton Hartig & Corey Franzen
  7. If my math is correct 79-9. Only gave up 5 runs in state and I think only 2 were earned (2 HRs). Someone can go look at the box scores on that stat but I am pretty sure that is correct (it has been a long 2 weeks so I am pulling this from my tired brain). .
  8. Ohio starts August 1 and ends I think a week before Kentucky does.
  9. I will never understand why we need to be practicing football in May/June when the games aren't starting until middle of August. I understand why they do it but I don't understand it at the same time. Honestly, kids are not getting a break which is just causing burnout. For those kids who are playing multiple sports there is no break. As a coach they can say oh we are giving him a week off but is that week off really doing a lot for the kids? No in my opinion. Let the kids be kids and have a summer. You can say coaches are getting burned out but so are high school athletic trainers who have to cover this year round as well.
  10. The high school where I went now has 5 high schools using the stadium with the furthest having to drive about 20 minutes. Games are usually played Thursday - Saturday to allocate all the teams. Here is a picture of it: Turner Stadium | Houston, Texas USA | Harris County - Houston Sports Authority (scroll about midway down).
  11. I am agreeing with you. If you read my former posts I also gave a set-up to get them off the city park. It is a shame that is what the girls play on when baseball is playing in a minor league facility (a very nice one at that).
  12. Didn't baseball use to do it about 4-5 years ago?
  13. Love this idea and I think quite a few states do this already. My only complaint is get it out of the city park.
  14. Does the current KHSAA administration have anyone on there that knows softball (sorry kind of a tongue & cheek question)? Honestly, I believe the KHSAA does what is best for them and not kids. I probably will get hammered on that comment but it is just what I see from being at different state tournaments with my teams. Never been with softball but honestly get it out of a city park and show some respect for the sport & girls.
  15. I like your confidence regarding Alex not giving up more than 3 runs but even if he does give up more than 3 I believe CC's offense can pick him up.
  16. It was an easy job. A little vaseline on the lips kept the bleeding away once the bleeding almost stopped. It looked a lot worst live than what it really was. This team is unbelievable, they are a team through and through and play for each other and not themselves. Very fun group of kids to be around.
  17. I agree with you regarding nationals but in my opinion those tournaments are so much different. How many kids are really getting recruited from their high school team? I would say maybe 5 - 10% if that. At national tournaments there are college coaches who are coming to see these kids and the more they play the better they are. Parents are also traveling across the country for these tournaments so this also involves travel, lodging & food. Like Sweet16 said, why are we making district & regional one and out and not the state tournament? Like I said before this tournament needs to be 1 and out and moved to 1 location. Start it on Wednesday and be done with it by Saturday evening. It is still the same amount of days the baseball tournament is but we know there is no pitch count regulations for softball so you do not need to give them days off. Wednesday - 4 games (1st round) Thursday - 4 games (1st round) Friday - 4 games (2nd round) Saturday - 3 games (championship game in the evening) (semi & finals) My baseball team is playing in the state tournament and the facility is so nice. I mean for God's sake they go out in the 5th inning and 3 or 4 guys screen drag the infield does softball get this? No, and it is not traditional either but why do the girls have to play on a city field (slow-pitch) with temporary fences? You can't tell me UK or UofL would not host this. Take away the double elimination tournament and treat the girls the same as the boys. Also, if they must have a double elimination tournament find a park that has regulation field to host it. In the state of Kentucky it is hard to believe there is not 1 park centrally located that has 2 - 3 regulation fields.
  18. I just want to ask in what other sport in the KHSAA during state does a team have the ability to lose once and have a chance to win the state championship? It is called state for a reason you have to come and play every game like it is your last. 1 and out and move to a better field. I have already spoken my mind regarding the fields.
  19. I disagree it is too many games in a day IF it was a regular season tournament. However, it is too many games for a state championship tournament. Play a single elimination tournament and play on a college field. It is ridiculous the girls play in a city park and the boys play at a minor league baseball field.
  20. There are a lot of reasons why kids get injured and in my opinion it is just not girls like people say in this thread. I have found switching from different surface gym floors is causing a lot issues. Shoes are another reason. You may buy the Stephen Curry or LeBron James shoe but let's be realistic here those shoes just have their name on them. These professional athletes do not wear their shoe alone, they have orthotics, extra padding on their insoles etc and they are not wearing the same shoe for a whole season. They probably wear a new pair of shoes every 2-3 weeks. There is so much break down in the shoes it is crazy.
