  1. Have watched his progression and am amazed everyday. Determination and belief in oneself are keys to any athlete. I am very proud of what Tyler has accomplished.
  2. Good High School baseball game Nick Maronde pitched a gem. Catholic got timely hitting LCA did not.
  3. LCA has the 2 players that hit the ball the hardest in the region in Zack Monroe and Tyler Oliver, they don't have the speed of Revere but hit the ball consistantly harder.
  4. No one sees first rank pitching every day but speaking of LCA's schedule you do have a few weaker teams, but every one playing State Champion throws the best they have. LCA also plays Lex Cath (2 x), Male,St. X,PRP, Christian Co,Ballard,Campbellsville,Danville,Lafayette(2x), Tates Creek (2x), Dunbar (2x),Henry Clay(2x) they also play in All A with Owensboro Catholic, Heath and other top ranked teams. Out of state teams in Florida 20th ranked nationally Niceville , Fla and Choctaw Fla had very good pitchers. I understand that most people hate hearing about quality of teams in Lexington and Louisville but most of these teams have a couple of very good High school pitchers. Some other areas have good baseball from select teams but comparing any other area to these 2 isn't even close with maybe the exception of Owensboro.
  5. It is real easy to 2nd guess any decision a coach calls. I disagree with calls all the time but this does not make me right. Coach Galloway made a call that this time did not work, but every coach makes decisions by the gut feeling they have sometimes turns out wrong sometimes makes you look great. There is no correct call on any situation its all on the results. I have seen steals of home with 2 strikes on the batter work and you are called a genius but if it doesn't work an idiot. This was a good High School baseball and was decided by the players, In this case Justin Riddell of Lexington Catholic with his 2 run homer and throw out of runner at the plate from right field.
  6. I am one of the parents that you speak of going to public school in Lexington and then switching my son to private school. I see on this site all the time that athletics are why kids go to privates. In our situation the Fayette County School Board redistricted the area we lived in and the High School my son would have attended after redistricting did not suit me. This happened as my son entered 3rd grade so moving to private school was only choice( my father and many of his friends whom were retired Fayette Co administrators advised me LCA would be a good choice ). Athletics are not the only reason people have moved schools and many of the kids that transfer don't even realize they are good at a sport when they transferred to a school. What happens to the student that is in one High School district for his entire life and in the 8th grade his school board decides for him that he will go to a specific school that he does not want to attend? Go to a private school and lose 2 years of eligibility or go to a school that is not academically or athletically where he wants to be. On that note check out the growth rate at LCA and Lexington Catholic in about 1996 when Fayette co. redistricted all schools.
  7. Having 30 kids trying out for pitching may sound like it is a huge advantage but if no one is good High School pitcher it makes no difference. In Football you can send in new players all the time and wear out an opponent with shear numbers. If you had to play 18 players in a baseball game these numbers would apply, but you don't. You only play 8 players and a pitcher at a time and this is why baseball and even more basketball teams of smaller size can compete with bigger schools. This whole thread is on Ryle with 30 pitchers, who is even 1 top notch pitcher they have?
  8. I'm not trying to cut Henry Clay in fact they will be in regionals easier than any team that was ranked before them, but with what I have seen coming back this is where I would rank them. Maybe you should rank them yourself because this time of year opinions is all you have. As far as 12 seniors this would concern me if I was at Henry Clay because most of them never played last year and usually if you haven't played before senior year you will be passed over for younger player.
  9. Winning the 11th region is hard to do regardless of how good you are. This year getting out of the district may be as hard as the region. Whoever gets out of 42nd district will be the favorites to meet in the region finals. LCA will be the favorite but winning title is a whole different thing. LCA got breaks last year but you make your own breaks and they made alot happen. Don't forget to look at pitching when it comes to winning region and LCA has more depth and talent than ever on the mound. Like I said LCA and Catholic will be the favorites but either one or both could lose in first round of districts and open up the whole region.
  10. Ranking the 11th region: 1. LCA 2. Lexington Catholic 3. Tates Creek 4. Lafayette 5. Henry Clay 6. Dunbar 7.Woodford County 8. Scott County 9. Franklin County 10. Model 11. Madison Souther 13. Western Hills 14. Madison Central 15. Sayre 16. Bryan Station 17. Frankfort 18. Berea
  11. My point exactly Pikeville was one of the better schools and should be able to compete against anyone( which they have very well ) don't misunderstand me I am not bashing small schools I just believe 1 championship is what sports is all about. I believe pikeville or as stated paintsville would rather win the whole thing than watered down version where 4A schools call themselves the best. I have high regard for small schools and have confidence that they can compete with big schools in baseball and other sports. I don't see KHSAA ever having grand championship only classes and I personally would hate to see this happen.
  12. I agree football is a different subject where small schools have little chance to compete but could Lexington Catholic have beaten Trinity? Who knows we never will see, At the end of the year Catholic may have been the best football team in the state. At the end of 2005 baseball season LCA wins title and it was a feeling those kids could not have gotten if they had onlywon ALL A state championship. They know the were the best in the State of Kentucky for 2005 with no exceptions. Being a true State Champion is important to the kids who are true athletes and want to compete with the best to be the best.I can see where everyone wants a piece of a championship and thats why there is summerball, Go to a weak tournament and win it ,you will feel special and everything will be great. The good athlete wants to win a meaningful championship in baseball and other sports where small schools can compete withg anyone. Watching a small school like LCA evolve with the same players for over 4 years and win the State was amazing and every team should aspire to have that chance every season. Quit complaining about fairness because life or sports aren't fair, just reach for the stars and see where life takes you. If you couldn't have beaten the top A schools, LCA, Heath, Pikeville, or Beachmont what does it matter if you classed it anyway. If you were one of these schools you should feel like you had a good chance to win state because you were as good as most teams in it.
  13. If NCAA II or NCAAIII is the same thing and not watered down answer this question who won those championships and who are the dominate teams in those divisions? No one remembers the champions of ANY division of college sports but division I. Winning the State Championship is hard to do and should not be diminished by not having only 1 CHAMPION.
  14. I wasn't calling the All A a watered down championship but it is not the same as winning the state championship. Actually have watched the All A the last 2 years and agree some of the best teams in the state including Pikeville were in this tournament. I do understand the difficulty of winning the State championship with a small school being that I am an LCA fan with an enrollment of 390. I just would hate to see a championship where no one can really call themselves the best team in the state. Big schools have an advantage but small schools can compete in baseball.
  15. Having 1 State champion is the only way to go, Who cares about having 4 times as many champions. The All A baseball state championship has teams from both 1a and some 2a football schools, ask Owensboro Catholic or Heath if they feel like the State champions from 2004 or 2005. Just having the chance to play for a true championship is what competition is all about. Football is a numbers game and small schools have no chance but in all other sports anything can happen and has. Winning watered down championships mean very little, I bet people from Highlands and Boyle County feel like they had the best football teams in the state a lot of times in the past few years but who will ever know?
  16. LCA lost 4 seniors but return the majority of their offense and get UK signee Chris Wade back after a knee injury sidelined him during state championship run. They return top 2 hitters in Oliver and Monroe also lead off and 2nd hitters Wade and Colyer and Garrie Krueger who had some key hits in Tournament. This team was not senior dominated at all. Pitching returns 2 of top 3 pitchers and has lefty Robbie Ross joining a deep staff. Should be very talented team with chance to repeat for state championship.
  17. Here is my Pre season top 10 1. PRP 2. LEXINGTON CHRISTIAN 3. OWENSBORO CATHOLIC 4. MALE 5. CHRISTIAN COUNTY 6. LOUISVILLE EASTERN 7. CALLOWAY COUNTY 8. BOYD COUNTY 9. HEATH 10. TATES CREEK
  18. Congratulations To LCA players they played with heart and truly laid it out on the line. Tyrell Hayden was a man among boys tonite. You know your program has made a step when you hear Beechwood(9 time state champions) supporters complaining of LCA running up the score when they took a 35-7 lead. This was a great win for up and coming sports program.
  19. The reality is private and public recruit so when you talk of not fair understand what you are talking about. The out of state recruiting is done more by publics in border towns than by privates. Kids come from Ohio, Wv, Tn, and Indiana most of these with the exception of Louisville and Covington these kids are going to public schools.
  20. I keep seeing all this talk of Private schools working harder and longer than the public schools, from my experience this is not the case. My son is a baseball player at LCA and they won 2005 state championship and I don't believe the reason they won was that they worked harder than public schools or worked in the off season more. I have watched the dedication of the High School atheletes both public and private for many years and all this talk of working harder is nothing but fuel to the fire for public schools. All private schools do not recruit or use their financial resources to win state championships. Private school for most people has nothing to do with sports,it has do do with what you think is best for your child. I am a graduate of public school and see advantages in the academic and athletic fields for both sides. With Dunbar winning the State baseball championship in 2003 and Lafayette finishing runner-up in 2004 no one can tell me LCA with an enrollment of 390 students had an advantage over these big schools in 2005. Sometimes winning isn't about advantages its about being in the right place at the right time.True athletes want to compete at the highest level of competition and after watching sports for many years in and around the State I see some advantages everywhere. Big schools have advantage over smaller schools, Louisville schools have advantage over other districts because of open enrollments but this does not mean they can't be beaten. LCA competes against public and private schools alike and in any given year the best school could be public or private. Even though my son will likely graduate before any change is made I hate to see any state champion not be able to say his team conquered everyone. I see in these posts and obviously from the ADs of the public schools that they believe Private schools are at huge advantages over publics. I don't believe this to be true except in maybe 4A football and hate to see championships won by any school be watered down. True fairness is not attainable in sports and this proposal only shifts the power in some sports from a couple of big 4A schools to a couple of different 4A schools. I only hope the KHSAA has the sense to stop this from ruining High School championships from every student both public and private.
  21. What is the true purpose of this resolution? Fairness, Equality and the chance for everyone to win. These are unattainable goals for any organization to strive for. Dividing public/private schools will not fix a fairness issue it just changes the top group of schools from one to another. High school sports will be cheapened on both sides if this passes. Ask the kids if they feel winning a state championship without beating everyone has the same meaning as being a true state champion. What is fair about open enrollment in jefferson County to the other counties across KY? Recruiting is not done only at Private Schools it is done at many schools in this state public more than private. If you want to make rules (20 mile radius,No financial aid,no middle school programs,no out of state players) enforce them. What is fair to the small private school football player that has to play STX or Trinity? This issue is about parents and administrators not students. The movie "Hoosiers" would not have taken place if Indinana basketball was in classes. The Indiana state basketball tournament is no longer looked at as a great tournament . Championships are won on the field not Board rooms, let the atheletes decide who gets to wear the ring and remember you can't make life fair, its not!
  22. Next year should be a down year for Lexington baseball, LCA will have the most returning and by far the deepest pitching staff in Lexington. Catholic will be a good team but must find some pitching . Tates Creek has most of their pitching returning but lost half of the postions players. Dunbar will be decent but lost most of seasoned players. Henry Clay and Lafayette were killed on graduation day. Bryan Station had nothing last year and lost some of their starters. LCA should repeat as 11th region champs and could make another state run if a couple of new players step up, With Wade returning from knee surgery and most all of the offense in state tournament returning(Oliver,Monroe,Krueger,Colyer,Bentley) this should be another LCA year.
