  1. I am looking forward to watching Belfry a tough, disipled wishbone football team . Belfry reminds me of Herb Conleys wishbone teams in the 70s .We were hard to stop .I watched Belfry scrimmage last year at Morehead and enjoyed watching them.Does Belfry have a good option game to go with the inside game?:thumb:
  2. Wishbone would nice but- we all know thats not going to happen, why not put Davis,Cordel on the line and spread the field ,put Mcleod or Thomas in a single back or I formation ,power I in the red zone . Need lineman who can fire off the ball and drive people at least 3yrds for anything to work consitantly. Ashland has always been successfull in the past stopping the bone,Tomcats have to score to win. The toughest guys up front will win the game.
  3. Congrads Rams great game and wish you a great season . Mvp i agree with every thing you said except better skilled positions,Ashland has plenty but if you cannot win the game between the tackles you will lose.Ashland was whipped up front on the o-line.When you get in the red zone the o-line has to get tough and punch it in period. I hate to keep beating a dead horse ,but are o-line should be able to punch it in when a big play is made and puts you in the red zone. Racelands coach said it in the paper ,the game plan was to be physical and he was right on. Again great game Raceland you guys were tough.:thumb: Hope Bonner is ok.
  4. I thought Mahan played like he wanted to be the QB.He had pinpoint passing sometimes between two and three defenders ,plus he ran the ball with heart and hit it up in there at the goal line. The advantages showed with McDAVID at wide out blocking on the outside plays, the one play with Thomas and him blocking on a quick pitch worked well for big yardage to the goal line and then taking forever to punch it in up the middle. That close we should be able to get off the ball and move people and score in a power set. The timing on getting a crisp(quick) snap could use some improvement, the centers and QBs should get as many snaps as they can at least 100-200 or more a day ,even if they have to do it in gym class or lunch. The center for Herb Conleys team spent more time with the backs on offensive days then the lineman getting the timing down, which would help tremendously on running or passing the football. Ironton looked good as usually, the line padded up on their arms and getting after it and backs running hard with disire.Ironton will do fine.:thumb:
  5. Renfroe who played for Boyd Co,-UK-has a SEC. ring.:thumb: cannot rem. first name ?Teached at Verity.
  6. It would be interesting to know all the schools that wanted him to play football.:thumb:

  8. Its really hard sometimes rambler. Good luck to the Rams this year, ive been a Rams fan since my ex-Ashland coach Bill Tom was at Raceland, plus a very close friends son Matt McKinzie played for the Rams.Matt was a super player .He sure killed us at LB when we played them .:thumb:
  9. Sorry cat i was not refering to you post,i should hve kept my mouth shut .:thumb:
  10. Dickie does tell it like it is,if you dont like it turn it off.:thumb:
  11. I would love to see a ALL-TIME 1ST Team ALL- STATE board put up at Putnam to show all the young Tomcats playing football that it is possible one day to make 1st team all-state playing football as a Tomcat.:thumb:
  12. Ironton Fighting Tigers ,under the lights at Putnam 7:30 I think is the time this sat.
  13. I was impressed with #79 at left d-end he made alot of big plays and stuffed some outside plays. Good luck Camels.:thumb:
  14. Well said Graybeard, the center-QB snap and the o-lines inside running game for starters .The o-lineman all play one way except for a couple and should get the job done with a little pride and effort. (IMO) The Tomcats are better too and can improve. Campbell Co. showed us what fundemental toughness and discipline can do for a football team. The next scrimmage will show us if these Tomcats have some grit and move the football down the field. I did not mean to hurt anyones feelings ,but its time to get after it up front where ballgames are won and lost.
  15. I agree ,but way back when:sleep: ---The Tomcats had a punishing wishbone running attack that had two QBs one for the run and one for the pass we were state-runner ups. Two QBs can work or maybe it took two QBs to replace Steve Curnute at QB, 1st team all-state 1971 and later ALL-SEC at Vandy in the secondary and (if not mistaken)drafted by New York Giants . Sorry about that its that Tomcat living in the past again ,as they say But gettin back to today ,i think Mahan has all the tools to become a great QB.and just needs to prepare himself mentally to be that leader that a QB. must be in that huddle when all eyes are on him to call a play and execute it.(IMO)Two QBS might make it a little easier on a inexperinced QB. and ease him into the role of leading the team and gaining the respect he must have from his players.:thumb: Whens practice?::thumb:
  16. The Tomcat o-line needs to establish a agressive inside running game and (IMO)could be a very dangerous football team. At QB. Mahan can sure wing that football, but Mcdavid (imo) has been in the pressure cooker so many times and has played QB. under the lights.Im sure coach Hart and Co. will do whats right for the team come game time.:thumb: Maybe two QBs. ?
  17. I got my magazine at Walden's book store last week.:thumb:
  18. Congrads to coach Triplett and staff. Sounds to me like the Ironton players have good character and the coachs the same which equals a great football team. Good luck Ironton Fighting Tigers .:thumb:
  19. Coach Triplett was head coach for the Oak Hill Oaks Football team when i worked in Oak Hill Ohio about 4 years ago.Oak Hill is a small town on rt.93 right before you get to Jackson Ohio.Oak Hill always had a winning season. One year in the early 2000's Paintsville KY. if not mistaken made the long trip to Oak Hill and played them, and lost.My ex coach who coached at Sims Valley Ohio after retiring at Ashland Ky school system played the Oaks and thought alot of Coach Triplett.I hear my ex-coach is retired in Ohio now and maybe thinking about coaching down south. The idea of a coach retiring and coaching in another state and retiring seems to be a good move to me.:thumb:
