  1. Who calls it 15U is my question, because it sounds like this year AAU is going to have a 14U championship AND an 8th grade championship ... And I thought AAU always referred to grade levels ... Is EYBL, for example, set up so that 18 year old seniors to be, i.e. A kid that will turn 19 on September 2, plays in tournaments listed as 17U, or is eligibility set up for those going into their senior year?
  2. TC I thought about Male as well, and I certainly knew of their history, I just think Ballard has been a lot more productive in recent years, when there have been more D1 opportunities available than, say, 40 or 50 years ago. Thanks for posting!
  3. I don't think I disagree at all, I will just call it semantics, or perhaps even ignorance on my part. What you are saying, and with which I agree, is that a kid who turned 16 on September 2, 2015, would be eligible to play ninth grade AAU basketball. If that is called 15U, then I agree, it creates the strange situation of having a kid that turns 17 in September eligible to play 15U during the summer before she turns 17. I say it is semantics, because I always assumed 15U meant "under 15" and you believe, and this may be the case, that 16-year-olds that are going to be 17 within a couple of months, are eligible to play U15. Is that a fair reading?
  4. I'd like to see somebody knowledgeable put Ballard up here. Gotta be a ton there ... and I only go back to Jeff Lamp (77) and Jerry Eaves (80), but then you have Allen Houston and a bunch recently. I'd think Ballard would be near the top, if not the top, number of kids that went on to play D1.
  5. Definitely not HC/Highlands this week. Holy Cross has triple headers at Boone County Tuesday 12/1 and at Lloyd Friday 12/4, followed by frosh only at Scott on Monday 12/7 and at home against Ryle 12/8.
  6. For many, and probably even most of the kids on this list, they were not eligible to play 14U last year, although they will be eligible to play 9th grade (which is effectively 16U) this year, the one exception on the list that I am personally aware of being Dontaie Allen, who just turned 15. I do not know the birthdates of all of the kids on this list, but those that I do know all will turn 16 before August 1st, making them ineligible to play 15 U but eligible for 9th grade. It is the same age/grade issue that has been the subject of many, many debates on here, but that is part of the reason there aren't any 9th region names on here, because of the best 20 or so 9th region freshmen, only a couple are "older".
  7. I'd be interested in hearing who, of a select number of players, is playing up and won't suit up at all as freshmen. Rankin at Ryle, Thelen and Davin at CovCath, Castleman and Schilling at Beechwood, anyone at Campbell, anyone at Holmes, King and Starkey at Highlands, Chad Ohmer at Scott? At Holy Cross, Houston and Macke may both play up, but both will play freshmen as well.
  8. J Where was Geisler before he came back to NKU? Jacksonville or a Florida school?
  9. Bob Muntis, Miami univ. The NKUs were all D2 before they made the transition to D1.
  10. Covington Holmes James Bolden '15 - West Virginia Ricardo Johnson '10 - Ohio University Elijah Pittman '10 -Marshall Anthony Hughes '90 - Fairleigh Dickinson Jack Jennings '88 - WKU Dicky Beal '80 - UK Doug Schloemer '78 - Cincinnati I think there are more mid major and prior to 1970 ... This is off the top of my head ... Apologies to whoever I forgot
  11. Anyone know if Highlands 7th came back and won? This is the team that went undefeated all last year, correct?
  12. This is a heck of a season opener .... Dontaie Allen and Jake Ohmer both have the ability to put up 50 points on a given night .... different players so they won't be head to head, but it should be worth the price of admission .....
  13. Allen with 30 and Weyer with 41 .... Wow! As impressive as those numbers are, I would not be surprised at all to see both of them eclipse those numbers a few times .... Allen and Ohmer are going to put some huge numbers in the 10th this year .... Could be Draud-Jennings-esque (gratuitous 9th region reference)
  14. Any other results from this week? Beechwood play? How is that working this year, is Beechwood playing a small school schedule, even though they clearly have the talent to match up with the big schools? On the issue of St. Pius - Highlands, I hope the conflict is some temporary over-sensitivity because both Huddleston and Mayer are exceptional players and competitors and it would be a shame to muddy the next four or five years with chippy stuff.
  15. Franklin County won first half by 1, second half by about 8. Franklin is very good, but so is Holy Cross. I think they will surprise some people.
  16. Gonna be a breakout year for Maddie, if given the opportunity.
  17. I was really just curious to know if this waiver had ever been used. In the day and age we live in, when 19 year old seniors are the new norm, I just wondered if anyone had ever going down this path.
  18. But I don't think it would not be of public record anyway, or am I wrong on that?
  19. Holy Cross defeats North Laurel, HC by 6 in the first half and North Laurel wins second half by 2 on last second jump shot.
  20. The age restriction bylaw adopted by the KHSAA is already very generous in that anyone is eligible that does not turn 19 before August 1 of their senior year, but there is a waiver (see below) that allows them to play AT ANY AGE if the right things were done while they were enrolled in primary school. Does anyone know of this waiver provision ever being used to allow an athlete to play that did not otherwise meet the requirements? Has there ever been a challenge to a player meeting the age requirement that relied upon this waiver? BYLAWS OF THE KENTUCKY HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BYLAW 2. AGE Sec. 1) AGE RESTRICTION a) Pursuant to KRS 156.070 (2) (e), a student who becomes nineteen (19) years old before August 1 shall be ineligible for interscholastic athletic competition. b) A student who becomes nineteen (19) on or after August 1 shall remain eligible for the entire school year. Sec. 2) WAIVER PROVISION a) The Ruling Officer and the Commissioner may waive the provisions of this bylaw and the student shall be eligible for high school athletics in Kentucky if the written documentation is provided to clearly demonstrate that the student: (1) Qualified for exceptional children services and had an individual education program developed by an admissions and release committee (ARC) while the student was enrolled in the primary school program; (2) Was retained in the primary school program because of an ARC committee recommendation; and (3) Has not completed four (4) consecutive years or eight (8) consecutive semesters of eligibility following initial promotion from grade eight (8) to grade nine (9). b) The Ruling Officer and the Commissioner shall not adopt administrative procedures that allow for waiver of this rule under any other condition. Case BL-2-1- Why is there an age restriction? To ensure equality of competition and opportunity, a standard must be established at some point to determine the cutoff date for age eligibility. Use of a specific cutoff date gives notice to all parties involved in interscholastic athletics and maintains equality of participant eligibility between schools. An age limitation requirement: (1) Provides commonality between student-athletes and schools in interscholastic competition; (2) Inhibits “redshirting” or failing to make normal progress through school; (3) Allows the participation of younger and less experienced players; (4) Enhances the opportunity for more students to participate; (5) Promotes quality of competition; (6) Avoids over-emphasis on athletics; and (7) Helps to diminish the inherent risk of injury association with participation in athletics. Case BL-2-2- Are rulings related to Bylaw 2 (Age) appealable through the KHSAA Due Process Procedure other than the published exception stipulated in KRS 156.070? No. Bylaw 2 as approved by the Kentucky Board of Education expressly prohibits appeals concerning this bylaw. In addition, with the adoption of HB215 from the 1998 Legislative Session, the Kentucky General Assembly has placed this provision in KRS 156.070 in the form of state law with the only exception being the provisions passed by the 2007 Kentucky General Assembly. Case BL-2-3- What is the primary school program as used in KRS 156.070 (2) (e) as amended by the 2007 Kentucky General Assembly? KRS 158.031 defines “primary school program” as “that part of the elementary school program which children are enrolled from the time they begin school until they are ready to enter the fourth grade” (PK-3). Bylaw 2 applies this same definition
  21. I thought I heard a number of 7th graders had been pulled up ... Is that not the case or is it just Bieger?
  22. Isn't that a huge upset? Did Jefferson and Bieger play for Beechwood?
  23. I for one would be interested in hearing who the best teams and players are in the 6th, 7th and 8th, boys and girls. Will anyone compete with Highlands 7th this year, Beechwood perhaps. As a fan of NKY basketball, I'd like to see more results and game discussions on BGP at every level of school basketball, but especially for the middle schools where there is no place to find results or standings....
