Good post! But..... Was the idea of additional classes to even out both the 4A and 1A classes repectively? I don't know, the difference from largest to smallest just shows the effect on only 2 schools in a class. How about the number of schools that are within similar population? I mean, are most schools relatively close to each other or is it a drastic difference for the majority? Where are you getting your numbers?

I take that back alittle..... There are positives in it, like most things pros and cons. But still, adding two classes seemed like alot. And I would still like to see the class champions play each other. If the small schools get chances to play larger schools in baseball, basketball, etc. tourneys for a championship, why not let them have a shot in football. Or is the fact that they probably wouldn't win a multi-game district but would only have to win ONE game too much to risk.

The smaller schools don't have to play the larger schools as it is now...so why the need for a change. Because the larger schools beat up on each other too much. That and more revenue.

I was talking about several years not just last year. I went through all the years available on the khsaa website for baseball, girls/boys b-ball. And for the record...there are lots of LARGE schools there....but they aren't alone.

Correct, noone said the small schools would win districts outright against the largest schools and run through the playoff tourney. Only ONE school wins a ring, everyone else loses....even the bigger schools.

So, it is simply about the pool of available talent and the ability to have an improved bench? That is why I asked and what I thought. Was that difficult for you to answer? Bigger schools have it easier, no doubt. Everyone agrees with that. But, just browsing quickly, I saw quite a few smaller schools in the state tourneys for baseball, boys and girls basketball which do use one class.

Look, I gotta go, but... I understand the idea and the reasoning. There are some schools that have it rough. But I think most are close enough on comparison in their classes now that it isn't in drastic need for changing. I do think it is watering down a highly sought after accomlishment. And, Gametime, explain it alittle bit to me. I mean, why is this good for football and not baseball or basketball. #1. Is it injuries to a football team - so bigger schools can bring in more talented backups. (can't you do that in baseball and basketball with more talent to pool from) #2. Would it be the pool of talent- bigger schools have taller students to choose from for basketball teams. What other states use class size for basketball championships??

But right now, those schools don't have to play anyone up in 3a or 4a to win a ring as it is?? So changing it to add more classes doesn't make it any HARDER for small schools to win. It makes it easier, i think.

The past few years, I'd put: Boyle, Danville, Breathitt, Russell, Belfry, Owensboro Cath, Lloyd Memorial, Ft. Campbell, E-Town, Beechwood, N.C.C., and Mayfield up against the "eschelon " of Kentucky Football. You Betcha. :banana: Now, making a run through all 6A to win the ring. TOUGH TO DO...even for the 6A teams. haha !! But, I'd put money that these teams would win games. Yup!

What class is that taking place in? So, small schools don't ever have a chance of winning against larger schools. I can think of quite a few A and AA teams i'd bet money on to beat up on AAA and AAAA teams all week long. :sssh: I don't think the differences between schools in the classes we have now are quite that drastic. maybe from the lowest to the highest. Why is it okay for smaller basketball and baseball schools to play larger teams, but not in football?

Don't we have the playoff system with basketball and baseball, etc. Private vs. public there works. I don't mind the classes..I just don't think 6 sets of state champions really proves anything. Might as well water it down more and have 8 state champions. You'll have more fans to buy tickets, more hotdogs to sell, more hotels to rent, more gas to guzzle. After all, that would be the biggest reason the state is doing this.

I don't think the Tomcats are trying to sell papers, though. But, the Red Devils have racked up an impressive # of playoff wins the past 10 years or so. Something like 15 or sixteen. i'm just thinking off the top of my head. Of course, 7 or 8 being these past two years. The Tomcats (as much as it pains me to say it) usually get stymied by Rockcastle and Bell in the 2nd or 3rd round on a pretty regular basis. :sssh: But there is no shame in that.

I agree with Strong here. That is an awful lot of "state champions" bragging about how "THEY" are the best. haha, the best in their class only! How about a state champion playoff system, then.

This was my argument two years ago. *helps teach the kids to get IN their offense quicker. *prepares them for the collegiate level. *adds more coaching strategies. *improves the fan enjoyment.

Putnam lacks PLAYER facilities in every way imagineable! SAD!! I haven't seen the remoldeling.(haha) But any team visiting would think it was a dump. Putnam lacks impressive press boxes. In fact, unless they built one last year, there isn't a visitors press box at all. They definately need updated. I also never liked the open facing underneath the outside of the bleachers. Dirt and garbage visible to newcomers....ugh! As for the enclosed concrete horseshoe, the field conditions, atmosphere, newly constructed public restrooms, ticket counters and concession stands.....top notch stuff!! The letcher pics certainly do scream state of the art. Individual stadium seating, Top notch press boxes, nice looking field, I have a couple questions. Where are the team locker rooms? What are the two doors beneath the press boxes? Are there 2 concession stands or are fans to walk around the field? Is there a walkway around the field and bathrooms on the visitors side?
