  1. For me personally, I think it’s time to move on from the BW debate. He did the best he could, he is a very good person, teacher and D coordinator. Believe it or not I like Brian, I just don’t agree with his leadership skills of this storied program and his inability to maintain the level of success required to stay on top. I appreciate everything he did for my two sons and they and my family feel the same. I have no idea what this man is feeling right now and I can’t even imagine. Because it is Highlands, a certain spotlight is put on the program, when they win it’s because they are supposed to win, when they lose and lose big they fall big and someone has to take the blame and that person is the head coach. He has been beat up on here repeatedly over the years by many including myself being his biggest one if not his biggest critic. I probably did this because I knew BW was better than the outcomes, the scores or records but he feel behind and couldn’t recover and there is nothing shameful about walking away with his head held high in light of the circumstances. I know this is easy for me to say but I hope he doesn’t feel defeated or feel like he has failed himself, he did everything to the best of his abilities and has many accomplishments to be proud of but unfortunately at Highlands it’s business and enough is never enough. I wish him the best and hope to see him and his assistants coaching again soon.
  2. I know didn’t ask me but I’ll play. Depends on what the coach is looking for in his career. The triState area opens up much larger geographical opportunities and the name Highlands on your resume certainly doesn’t hurt. I just don’t think BC and Highlands can be compared in the same sense. JMO but I think Highlands is a better job. BC is a very respected program but they are not Highlands. Yes, they destroyed Highlands this year and yes they are very good and very well coached but 20+ yrs of success doesn’t equal 100 yrs unless your name is T.
  3. Hergott and Geisler? There are others, they just don’t play for Highlands anymore.
  4. Over a half a dozen game changing/ program changing athletes have transferred out and not into Ft Thomas. So when people say Highlands isn’t getting transfers they are wrong, Highlands’s is giving transfers. It has not only affected the football program but also basketball and baseball to name a few. This culture has to be reversed and the time for a change in leadership was necessary. Someone else feel free to rattle off names of transfers.
  5. Highlands job is not for a coach with rabbit ears or the sensitive soft side that gets his feelings hurt by words or criticism. If a coach is worried about his job then he is already defeated at a program like Highlands. It’s hardcore expectations that demand an ego out of this world or an overqualified coach to be successful including really good position coaches. Incredible expectations and pressures to succeed, win and win big. Guys like Homer Rice, Mike Murphy, Roger Walz, Bill Herrman,, Tom Duffy, Dale Mueller all won and won big in their own way. Some took longer then others but they all improved. Anyone know what everyone of those great coaches had? Great defenses and the ability to delegate responsibilities to other coaches and also know the strengths and weaknesses of your program as a whole. Not a single one of those coaches succeeded by themselves, not a one. None of them made excuses, they found ways to Win because that’s what the job demanded regardless of the circumstances. If they didn’t win they fixed it. None lost very often if ever at all. Who is applying?
  6. Purple Prides might have something to say about that hire.
  7. So with all the hype here the big question is where will the money come from to pay a high profile coach? Thinking fundraiser or cookie sale.
  8. Wow!!! This, is very interesting to say the least.
  9. These same kids excel in the feeder program and continue the success at the Frosh level kicking off their high school careers winning. And then something mysterious happens between Frosh and Soph years, Idk. I too am so perplexed at everyone saying the talent isn’t there. It’s not that the Highlands kids are slow, weak or untalented, it is because Dale taught everyone in Kentucky what the recipe was to being successful and coaches copied it and teams have caught up. Those programs have adopted, implemented and excelled and Highlands didn’t necessarily fall behind but rather lost their edge and didn’t stay ahead of the competition and fell into a lull. Interesting how someone said Roger Walz implemented Highlands ideology at Beechwood and the Beechies never looked back.
  10. Of course ask any successful coach or heck for that matter non-successful coach at a school like Highlands will always state that the fan base and parents are their biggest problem. I guess this is why Dale was so good, he didn’t let people get to him mentally. He could look a person in the eye and smile at you genuinely but behind that smile he was saying I despise you. Finding that guy will certainly be the biggest challenge and it could take a few hires to get it right. Let’s face it, everyone of these coaches are grown adults that will apply for this job. They know what they are signing up for, if it were easy BW would still be the coach.
  11. I would love to see one of the poll thingys posted on a National coaches site that asked 1 simple question that required a simple yes or no answer. “Has anyone ever heard of Highlands Football, Ft. Thomas, Ky?” Out of 10,000 votes I would take a stab at saying 8500 would be Yes. Not saying 8500 would apply if the money is right or would ever want it but I am saying the program is established, recognized and respected across the country for HS football and there will be many applicants IMO that may consider the challenge and opportunity.
  12. I Understand, but as just stated in another reply, some coaches do need this challenge, some need the rush and some coaches have such a huge ego that will beg for this job knowing what’s at stake.
  13. Why did Brian Kelly take the Notre Dame job? Why did Eddie Eviston take the CovCath job? Heck, why did Uncle Dale take the Highlands job? Because they are programs that will challenge a coach and his abilities to handle the pressures of winning and more importantly have the chance to add a brick to the house that was built before them. Probably why the names being thrown out here are being mentioned, because they have all proven that they can probably handle this program and the fan base that goes with it.
  14. For the record BW was fired. No resignation required.
  15. Hello, calling Chuck Smith... Mr Smith, someone from Ft Thomas is on line 2.
  16. Now Eviston would bring the great offensive mindset that someone mentioned earlier in this discussion. I see Eddie moving on to a college level job within the next 2 years so not sure why he would risk taking a Highlands job that may take 2 yrs to get back on track. I mean someone said Gino is earning $260k per year. All great QBs think alike...
