Came home from vacation yesterday. First thing I noticed is that my yard smelled like an animal died was there. No dead animal, but thousands of dead cicadas and even more live ones In the trees. Another note.....as someone who grew up with this cycle, I remember thinking about how old I would be the next time they came out. For the first time ever, I am hoping I will be ALIVE the next time they come out! I am officially old.

I am hoping that there are about 20 kabillion out there by now as I am on vacation. I was also hoping that they would mate themselves to death and be gone by next week. Wish my vacation dollars could last longer.

Flew to Florida last week. Airlines still require the masks but are filling up those middle seats. Our flight was 100% full. Seems a bit hypocritical. Florida is awesome! There are very few masks around Vero Beach and it feels great to be acting normal. It is time.

That’s how Mr. BWF got Covid. However he had a very very mild case. Someone should look into bourbon.

A few years back, we were told that the flu vaccine was mandatory. If an employee refused, he/she would have to wear a mask at work during flu season. That could be a solution for people to keep their jobs and not take the vaccine. BTW, I never once saw an employee wear a mask during flu season.

I work in a hospital and we were told we could refuse the vaccine. We were also reminded prior to vaccination that the vaccine had an emergency use approval from the FDA meaning that it had not been as fully investigated for use as other medications. That alone should be a reason that anyone should be allowed to refuse it.

Dad’s assisted living place opened up activities for their residents. He however is not allowed to go because he has not been vaccinated. Surprise surprise, he suddenly wants the vaccine. Shocked the heck out of me. Goes to show how lonely he has been.

I live in NKY. I would say most regular businesses are compliant. My favorite watering hole however, is not...but it is a bar.

I am not so sure. The most vulnerable have been vaccinated. Keep in mind I have been wrong a lot, but at this point I think the hysteria should die down and we should be in flu mode,

1970 was my first experience. I remember trying to ride my bike as they were flying everywhere, and the gross crunch of riding over them. It was the first time my mom let us stay inside to play on nice days.

This thread has been open for almost a year. It is interesting reading through it. I don’t think any of us would have predicted that we would still be dealing with this virus so long. I didn’t take the virus seriously at the beginning at all. Couldn’t have been more wrong.

Makes me wonder how many asymptomatic positive people who are out there and have never been tested. I hope a lot.

I would love to know (and never will) the true number of people infected. We test like crazy at the hospital where I work and I am amazed at the number of asymptomatic positive patients. I also know so many friends and family who were never tested but had mild to moderate symptoms. I am so very glad that the vaccine is here.

If I could give any advice about getting the vaccine, it would be this...whichever vaccine you take, if you can do so safely, take Ibuprofen regularly for 24 hrs following each injection. I was stupid. I assumed since I had never had a problem with vaccines, this would be no different.

Got my second vaccine today. Only difference so far is that my arm is much more sore and hard. Some of the nurses who had no reaction to the first vaccine got sick.with the second. So far so good for me. Will see what morning brings. OH my, what a night! Fever 101.6 chills body aches, nausea and headaches. My arm feels like someone beat it with a baseball bat. Other nurses had the same reaction as I did. Supposed to last 24 hours. Still worth it in the long run. No pain no gain.

He definitely won’t. He still thinks his kids weren’t immunized. Mom would take us and he never knew the difference.

Wow! That’s interesting! His old stubborn ways have gotten him to 91. Maybe he know what he is talking about.

My 91 year old dad refused the vaccine. He has been an anti vaxer his whole life. Still standing by his beliefs.

I would really have no way of knowing. It is quite possible that I had an asymptomatic case at some point. It also supports what I was told when I got the vaccine, that I would start building antibodies within 4 weeks. When I was at the clinic, the nursing assistant, who was visibly short of breath, said she just came back to work after being off for 6 weeks with CV. She said she had no pre-existing conditions, but was left with heart and lung damage. She wasn’t even hospitalized. She remarked how lucky I was to have been offered the vaccine. I felt so bad for her. It made any pre-vaccine concerns I had evaporate.

Vaccine update! The mister and I had a very close exposure so we both got tested today. I should add that the mister has been quite sluggish for the last 4-5 days. He tested positive. I tested negative for COVID, but positive for antibodies. Seems the first vaccine I got 3 weeks ago is working and protecting me! Looking forward to getting my second next week. As far as Mr. BWF is concerned, he feels better today than he has all well. Hopefully this means he has only a very mild case.

As people get vaccinated, I wonder what the rules will be about mask wearing. At our hospital we were told we still have to wear masks at all times. In the community it would seem that you should not have to wear them anymore. How will the public know if you are not wearing a mask because you have been vaccinated, or just not being compliant?
