NCBIRD replied to jbwill2's topic in KY Football (High School)
gryche11, I'm not sure about Scott but the last I heard, Hamlin was playing baseball for UC. -
Congrats to both Justin and Sammy for having GREAT careers at NCC and continued success at Gtown.

Best talent next year for Pendleton
NCBIRD replied to SkyHawk's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
There is a player on the 8th grade team, I don't know his name but his number is 32. He plays AAU ball as well and is a very good player. Not only can he shoot the ball from outside but he handles the ball well and loves to penetrate. -
Yes, Ben has signed the L.O.I, best of luck to him!!!

Bishop Brossart starting a football program
NCBIRD replied to Dlbdonn's topic in KY Football (High School)
Ryan Steffen could start out holding most of the rushing records for Brossart if he decides to play football. Don't think for a second that Brossart starting a football program will not affect NCC. I know several kids that have gone to Brossart and would have been good football players but settled for soccer because that was all they had to offer at the time. I also know several kids that have gone to NCC instead of Brossart because of the opportunity to play football. It's a shame that the two schools can't come to an agreement and find a neutral location so they can join forces to compete with the likes of Highlands, Covington Catholic etc... This not only makes sense for sports but financially as well. -
Question about Northern Kentucky Players

Don't forget Angela Healey from Highlands, she passed up soccer to follow her passion for basketball. -
Who is gonna be the best in 3A next year?
NCBIRD replied to LCH2006's topic in KY Football (High School)
Everyone has their opinion about the QB position...last time I check there is 11 men on the field at the same time. It takes a team to be successful not one player. Now unlike some people I am not going to take a shot at a kid because I thought he missed his assignment or did'nt make a great play everytime. I like to reflect on the positive things a player does and Chase had many positive moments as a player. It really does'nt matter what we think about who should play or not... the coaches decide. I would like to say thanks to Chase and Chad for making each other better players. -

Dale has a good problem, he actually has Draper, Mcgraw and Cecil to choose from for the QB position. I can't see moving Connor from RB to QB, the kid is a natural at RB and Highlands has plenty of talent to choose from at the QB position. -
Best Freshman and Sophmores in NKY
NCBIRD replied to budman0209's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
malachicrunch, I think we all agree that it would be better for the highlands basketball program to work together with the football program. When a coach, and I'm not saying Willie is thinking this way, starts labeling a kid as a football player at an early age...7th/8th grade they are going to miss out on good players. I think the coaches do more of the weeding out than the players themselves!!! A kid is not going to stick with a sport if he makes the team and rarely get a chance to play!!! -

I stand corrected on Drew but, I know this is true for Clay!!! -

Cecil and Simon were asked to try out for the team and decided to concentrate on football. After working out all year and playing football into the playoffs, I think the kids just need a break. Drew and Clay decided to work on football, Good for them. This is not Willie's fault that they decided to concentrate on football, it's something Drew and Clay thought would be best for them! Some coaches make that decision for you as a young player, as we may see on other teams at HHS, but this is not the case for Drew and Clay, in my opinion. -
Mala..., Male played NC during the 75/76 school year. NC had Timmy Sandfoss, Charlie Craddock, Kenny Wilfong, Dave Faust and I think Mike Schmit(sp) as the starting five. I will never forget the shot that Griffen pulled out of the air, Charlie Craddock, who could jump as well, pulled up for a jump shot and Griffen, from about three feet away, jump up and grabbed the ball (palming it in one hand) as he brought it back to earth. The Male team that year has been the best high school basketball team that I have ever seen!!!

Why is Highlands v Cov. Cath. a great rivalry?

Why is Highlands v Cov. Cath. a great rivalry?
NCBIRD replied to DaBirdMan's topic in KY Football (High School)
Sandman32, NC and Highlands had a great rivalry during the seventies and somewhat in the eighties with HHS getting the better of NC. Your comment on having to wear our equipment on the bus after the game is correct. I believe the Highlands fans started this tradition of stoning the buses because our old yellow bus just could'nt hold up as good as their rented Airporters with custom captain chairs etc... -
What about skilled positions QB, RB and WR, or do they have all position camps?

Coach Bob Schneider - Silenced His Critics
NCBIRD replied to fabfour's topic in KY Football (High School)
All Play and no Work, I agree that the majority of the time games are won by the players on the field; however, coaching makes a big difference when your team is in a tough game ( adjustments, preparation etc...). Too many times tight games have been lost when many think they should have won. Is this the head coach's responsibility, YES!!! There are three coaches on the staff that have been there for several years...Schneider,Kneflin and Morgan. Many programs go through growing pains with change of assistant coaches and adapt well. I don't buy losing assistant coaches as a good excuse. Look at the current staff, I feel past assistants have been replaced by quailified individuals. My fear is that the next head coach may not be the most quailified!!! -

Jordan Kremer HHS-RB, should be a stud next year, I'm glad Dale realized he can run with the ball!!! -
I can't see any freshmen making an impact next year on the varsity level...Highlands not only has a good Senior group of young men next year they also have two classes below them that are very strong...Undefeated Freshmen seasons. I look for this incoming Freshmen class to be strong as well and look forward to seeing them play football together.

As much as I would like for this game to happen, I can't see it happening. Highlands would win this match-up 9 out of 10 if not 10 out of 10. The difference between the two programs over the years is that Highlands knows how to win the big game. During my time at NC we beat Highlands twice but had no State Championships...Highlands had two State Championships during this time frame. I have a lot of respect for the coaching staff at NC, three of my coaches are still there and two guys that I played football with are coaching now. I want to congratulate everyone on the State Championship and hopefully this is the start of many more to come!!!
