We were talking about the baseball field but I would imagine the same applies for football. I was referring to responsibilites. Maintenance staff is supposed to take care of repairs. Basic field upkeep by the coaching staff. I think the grounds people do the mowing on the baseball field.

I've heard interviews have started but I can't confirm that. Like everyone else I'm hearing Duncan and also a coach from out of state are the more notable names. Again, unconfirmed.

Nope, they would fix it themselves. Takes about a wheelbarrow load of dirt, that tamping tool, and about fifteen minutes.

You are absolutely right. I saw that same thing and also noted that the baselines and infield were covered in grass and looked as if they had not been drug all season. Shamefull for such a nice stadium. Love the huge bleachers and the brick wall between the dugouts. Now let me explain to you why Knox Central's mound and infield dont look like that. When KCs mound needs repair the coaches and players take their wheelbarrow out to that pile of extra red dirt (the same pile you have on the concrete slab behind the first base dugout) and they cart enough out to make the repair. Also, before and after each game and several times during the offseason, they drag and level the dirt part of the infield. The same crew that mows yours mows theirs and with the same frequency. Your stadium and field are bigger, nicer and better than Knox Central's with the exception of the care provided by the team and coaches.

Ive admired what the state accomplished at Whitley for years, especially facilities. I would be in a minoritiy but I think I could support a state takeover especially if they pour that type of money into it. But mostly, I think it would help change the perception of KCPSs. I really think things have and are changing for the better but it's going to be hard to live down a reputation that they earned from generations of political greed.

For me, the quick answer is some of our brighter students, most involved parents who care about education, and several million dollars.

Not one bit. I know a bunch of people in both the educational and maintenence sections and I'm told by most that they spend more time at the LC schools than any of the others. I'm no educator and truthfully I don't know if the changes made will pan out to be the correct ones. However, I know a lot of changes have been made with more on the way. It sure looks like the effort is being made to me. Changes ruffle feathers and people get mad. Maybe they should, maybe not. As I said, I'm no expert.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I like Mrs. Bays, Mr. Pentington, and most of the staff at the LC schools. While I agree there is some deadwood on the faculty, I've been impressed with some of the young blood that's been hired recently and I think a turnaround is beginning. However, don't expect it to be overnight. School system politics is a slow process. (We agree on that point) Btw, I know and like Dave Mitchell. What he has done there in the past has at times been phenomenal. I also strongly support Hulett's stand on the reciprocal agreement with Corbin. Although I'm not privy to the inner workings of the administration, it does appear that since the issue with Corbin Ind. began, the Knox system has bent over backwards to give LC whatever it needs. I stand prepared to take my verbal beating now. I know some of you are very upset. Remember these are just my opinions, I'm not allowed to hire, fire, or set policy. I just pay taxes and ask questions.

Thanks, but I still dont see the politics of the situation. At least, not political gain. Since David was already retired, replacing him will most likely require creating a teaching position for the new coach at a time when the system is scrambling to avoid mass layoffs of the teachers they already have. As I said, I just don't see the political benefit of firing him.

Could one of you posters stating this is polictical explain this to me? I fail to see how the superintendent gains anything politically by firing a popular longtime football coach.

Coach Mitchell has been LC football for as long as I can remember and it is indeed sad for him to leave this way.

I don't understand some of the comments I'm seeing. Boyle beat a very good Knox Central team by two touchdowns. I don't understand how some are downplaying the win.

In my neck of the woods we consider all those teams NKY.

Why would they overlook Knox Central?

Mad Central did not play their usual RB for some reason, but KC dominated to the point where I don't really think that was much of a factor. Special teams? Canady is an excellent punter and return man. Coverage is about average as are kickoff and PATs. Lots of weapons on offense that don't get the publicity that Canady gets but that's an advantage. Defense is hardnosed with a huge but mobile D line. Linebackers are talented but young. Overall, no way they should be favored in this game but far from being a team you would want for your first playoff game. This team was only one or two plays away from being district champs. Three way tie relegated them to third place.

Cant see why anyone would jump off that bandwagon. Sure, three losses but early season and look who they lost to. I'm really excited about this game win or lose. We've handled ourselves pretty well in the playoffs recently but I've always wanted to go against Boyle, Lex Cath, Highlands etc.

So where are all the Boyle fans? Used to be the mention of Boyle guaranteed a long thread. Of course, there used to be 10 or so Knox Central fans here also. I was looking forward to some good reading. Guess I'll have to hope to make it to Highlands........
