  1. Some are more effective then others for various reasons. I'll move on now.
  2. Oh, I think on average it does. Why would someone "work the refs" as you say if the goal wasn't for it to be reflected on the scoreboard?
  3. I can see you are very proud, congratualtions. But if you don't think Al gets the most out of working the referees then you are doing some serious napping.
  4. Then you are asleep at the games. He's an intimidator and uses it to pressure referees, some are more susceptible then others. It's just part of being a good coach and using things to your advantage. Why would anyone take offense at that and put those scary, flaming devils on their response?
  5. Al's a good coach no doubt. His style is worth 6-10 points per game depending on who's refereing. But.... he has the largest pool of kids to choose from (not sure with Letcher now) and they should be right up there each year. Other coaches are doing a lot more with less.
  6. That is true. The way I see it is that some of the perennial powers of the last several years are down, some of the historically weaker teams (which are usually by circumstance the smaller schools) are up. That makes for a pretty balanced region and a lot of entertaining games and an overall feeling that lots of teams have a shot at winning the region. That's not putting any school down to say that "overall" the region is weaker then it has been in years, IMO. In fact, it's the truth. To think otherwise just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It's just the way things go, down years by 4-5 schools that are usually in the WYMT top 10 leaves the door open for other solid teams this season.
  7. I sort of think that he's getting a little more out of this team then some thought. Historically there have always been player/parent conflicts that have caused them to under achieve. He seems to have found a way to handle those problems and the kids are playing as a team for perhaps the first time in years.
  8. Right now I'd go with Sizemore from Leslie (thought he should have got it last year) and second place ,for now, Lively from Jackson City.
  9. 15 points but could have been a bit worse. SF led by @ 30 at a couple of points in the game.
  10. wow, surprises me. But, lots of surprises for me this year. good win.
  11. It was a bad evening to say the least. The coach was actually the principal also and was wanting to make the record books. Many people left the gym in disgust, some kids even refused to continue scoring, actually the coaches son, and was benched. So even though the adults have their own reasons for such behavior often times the kids know what's right and what is wrong. Nobody feels good about a win like this if they the least bit of feeling for other kids, especially those with special needs. I say "shame on Shelby Valley coaches" and shame on whoever defends that sort of play.
  12. That was one heck of a game. High scoring which led people who wern't there to assume no defense was played but that's not true. Many of us at Breathitt actually felt good for Owsley as it was a huge win at the time, new coach and all of that. They beat us fair and square and played one great game.
  13. Some improvement but no more then you would expect from other teams. Good luck to you also, Lee is the team to beat in your district and will be there at regional tournament time.
  14. Sophomores for the most part. They start one senior. I think some of their difficulties stem from a lack of leadership on the floor, but hopefully someone will rise to the occasion. We'll just have to look forward to next year!
  15. Couldn't help but chuckle a little while reading this thread this morning. The first thing that struck me was the accusation toward the Professor that he had mislead everyone about the Smith kid playing. He has always presented himself as a stand up guy as far as I'm concerned and.....who would think that a "big surprise" like that would have an outcome on the game. Heck, teams travel and play other teams that they have never seen play nor do they know who's on the team so that seems silly to me. And, from what I've read on here histirically, Smith was due to return in early January wasn't he? And, I never viewed him as breaking transfer rules. It's just a fact that if you transfer without the family moving, you have to set out a year unless all parties agree otherwise. We've seen it both ways, coming and going at Breathitt. And I wasn't at the game but I'm pretty sure the Lee coach earned his T. He got one the last time Lee played Breathitt and could have had a couple. Not criticizing, he just coaches with a lot of enthusiam. Now I'll butt out of your all's business!
  16. They are a strange team to me. I thought they showed a lack of effort in the first half and seemed to run out of gas early in the game, had a schizoprenic third quarter, and then had what I thought was an excellent 4th quarter. The only time they demonstrated an ability to slow Gilbert down was when they went man2man and put Fugate on him, and that was late in the game. But, it was a fun game to watch and the Wolves earned the win.
  17. He's apparently awaiting eligibility. They told me his name but I don't recall. Stamper helps that team and they say the other kid will also. He was on the bench but not dressed to play.
  18. Close at times but Wolfe led most of the wy. Gilbert had a lot of points.
  19. I wasn't really disputing anything but thanks for the answer. If I read it right then a win by the top team (by most accounts) in the 14th over a middle of the road team in the 11th is a good win and proves that the 14th is not weak this year?
  20. Just out of curiosity but who holds Franklin in such high regard? It looks like only 3 of their wins have been over teams with winning records.
  21. This my be a close one. I'm a Breathitt fan but Gilbert is a player who can beat you if you don't defense and frustrate him. If they contain Gilbert, Breathitt wins because they have a better ball team overall then Wolfe. If they can't guard Gilbert....( and I'll be curious to see who they put on him because they don't have that one individual player who can stay with him)Wolfe wins.
  22. No they are not on par with Breathitt's last years team. The competition in the 14th is better this year but the overall level of talented teams is not on the same level as the last few years, IMO. But nobody should have to apoligize for that because in March it all leads to the same conclusion. Jackson has a good solid team and I am all for them. Lee had a better team then Jackson last year and may have this year, that will be a good game. As far as not hitting their shots last year when Lee and Breathitt played? I thought it was just the opposite. The Brandenburg kid was in a como, throwing up NBA 3's that were falling! At any rate, it's a fun year so far. The situation is this, to varying degrees: Breathitt, Perry, and Hazard are down from the teams they have had over the last 3-4 years. That opens the door for others to shine and that's good, enjoy it!
  23. Jackson all the way in this one. Knott jumped out to like an 8-2 lead to start the game but that was short lived. Once Jackson adjusted to the pressure, it never was close.
