  1. You could be right. I just couldn't help but think all during the game that "neither of these teams are playing that well". But, as you point out, the wins have to mean something.
  2. June Buchanan is not all that good folks. Maybe 6th or 7th. SOrt of an unbiased opinion since Breathitt isn't really under consideration.
  3. & is what hid Dad said, figured he'd know but you may be right.
  4. Carver did good, started in fact. Had 7 points.
  5. Breathitt played better tonight. Better team play, more inside play, better passing, better shot selection, and better defense. Why? WHo knows. I know coach Hall juggled the starting line up a bit but sometimes the light just comes on. Anyway, Breathitt should be able to take this win and work toward a strong finish for the year. I'm very glad as I thought it might be a total write off but now I don't think so. It's a credit to Hall and the kids really.
  6. Breathitt led the whole way. Was a good game and maybe Brethitt is turning the corner.
  7. Couple of reasons why they shouldn't use Lee's gym. It's larger floor, and you can't see your hand in front of your face because of the poor lighting.
  8. I agree. Everytime I used to hike up or down that hill or have to use those restrooms and listen to all that crap about it's rich tradition I'd just shake my head and think, "you know, no one really cares about that stuff except a few over the hill folks who keep hanging on.
  9. I suggestedd in another thread that Breathitt's Gym looks to be empty that night and why doesn't JC use it and make some $ and let a lot more people see the game.
  10. I'd say it's a good thing now but probably hurt a couple years ago.
  11. Most agree with you, I think. But, a program as stable as Breathitt has been over the last few years shouldn't have to flounder this badly even when rebuilding. I personally attribute it to the feeder system and the two missed classes of players coming into the high school system. But, I don't thnk the general population looks back that far.
  12. Looks like Breathitt's gym is dark that night. Why don't Jackson City use it? They'd make a ton of cash and a lot more people could enjoy the game.
  13. They aren't as good as advertised. THat's the point really, they were over hyped by winning that 8th grade thing. And as for the class ahead of those guys, you would have had a couple of players who would have developed into decent players in high school.
  14. But, everyone plays for the chance to move into the playoffs and make it to the region. 8 out of 10 years Leslie would probably finish 3rd in the district. With the draw they have a pretty fair chance of only having to play either Perry or Hazard rather then being seeded 3rd and playing them both, so I see where they are coming from.
  15. When Riverside plays say a far off team at home they probably don't take in enough money to cover expenses. When they play a Jackson City or Breathitt it's their biggest paydays of the season with their share of the gate and they need the money. So, Breathitt used to schedule them to help them and Jackson probably does the same. Which is a decent thing to do.
  16. A very good and I think accurate post. It's a long story that goes back a few years. After being "held back" when these current sophomores were 7th grade, they were better then most if not all of the 8th graders, which wasn't a strong group to begin with. Consequently they started for the middle school team as 7th graders and a number of 8th graders hung it up and never got back into it, as evidenced by the current senior class of the Bobcats this year. What are there? Two seniors? Anyway, in their 8th grade year, which would have been their 9th grade year ordinarily, they won the state 8th grade tournament. As I understand it, the 8th grade tournament is an invitation only event which is not really an elimination type thing to get there and I'm not sure who actually sponsors it. It's too late to make a long story short but due to these kids staying back and causing the 8th grade kids to quit when these kids were 7th, Breathitt go virtually no significant help form what is now the senior class and even less from the group that is now the junior class which is what these kids would have been. So, Breathitt had two years of not too many new basketball players into the high school program. I may have confused myself and others a little but it somehow worked out that way. With all that said, these kids are not as good of ballplayers as Breathitt has had the last couple or three years, but Coach Hall is a good coach and is doing the best he can do with what he's got. They will improve and when they are seniors, they will be very competitive. And, I think they are probably about a year older on average then the regular sophomore. Heck, most have been driving for some time.
  17. It is up to each district to vote as to if they want to seed or draw. To change the way it's done would need to be mandated by the KHSAA.
  18. I don't disagree with you nor the professor, nor Roundleather. I think the best two teams from the district should be represented in the region. Breathitt went several years being second best to Knott County and seemed they alwys drew them in the first round of the district. Perry Central has knocked out Hazard two years in a row when they should have gone to the region also. I'm just saying that there is no real incentive or benifit in a weak program voting to seed.
  19. You guys had a strong program to begin with is my guess. Where you get people who won't vote to seed is schools like Riverside and until recently Jackson City, where their best chance of ever making it to a regional game is the luck of the draw.
  20. Man, just when you think you can write one of these teams off and narrow the field a little, somebody beats someone!
  21. Know what you mean. Last night he was making everything he put up..... but Breathitt always trailed in the game so Magoffin sort of sagged on defense, just making sure to not give up a lot of easy baskets. He dropped in several 3's. I think Breathitt's big man had 1 point. The other 3 point shooter may have hit one of 10. Hopefully these kids will build on this year's experiences and get back on track next year.
  22. Excellent point. You add the 3 sophomore varsity starters to the JV team and they would be hard to handle by anyone.
  23. I guess I would agree with part of it..... but don't get too excited about beating any of the Breathitt squads this year, it may not be a good yardstick for success.
