  1. This could be understood that you think that every team has a few 'free wins' on their schedule (lots do)........and I think that bball king was only saying that Lee has to fight for every single win. For example- Owsley is one of the weaker opponents on Lee's schedule- they've only won 4 games this season.... but they are no pushover.
  2. My mistake, David School once, Piarst twice. I do understand the continuing tradition...it just carries some negative elements along with it. And I only said that 'a lot of people think'...etc. That doesn't mean that it is so, only that people probably think that way. I do think that JBS center being injured will make it tough in their district tournament. Have they drawn yet? Where will it be played?

Switching Jackson City with JBS would make the lists more right.
  4. KHSAA has them scheduled to play Riverside two times - Feb 6 and Feb 20. Has the second game been cancelled? JBS also plays Piarst once and the David school twice. I do understand continuing the tradition, but it would make any team look bad to schedule 20% of their games with the lowest rated teams in the state. I'm sure that a lot of people think that these games are just opportunities to pad the stats for both the team and individual players. 113 to 34 and 116 to 66......I'm sure those were fun games.
  5. Breathitt probably had 20+ turnovers against a good Leslie press and missed a lot of threes. Leslie dominated the boards. I think that the score was 20 - 22 at half time.
  6. Maybe you would just move into the parish of Brossart NCC etc. Don't all of those head coaches (NCC, Brossart, etc...) in the Covington diocese answer to one superintendent? As far as the feeder programs, what is to keep the parents of the better players from enrolling them at the same elementary schools/feeders? I am sure that I would do just that...even if it meant driving a few extra miles every day. THERE ARE NO RULES AGAINST IT AND IT IS NOT 'DIRTY' TO DO IT. That is the point- public schools are not coordinated/associated in a way that is conducive to funneling the better athletes to one school.
  7. I wish him the best also. I thought that Daniel was starting to do a good job setting screens for Smith.
  8. Independent school districts have their boundaries and are not 'open enrollment'. I think that the issue is 1 superintendent and 12000 students (private) as opposed to 1 superintendent and 200-1000 students (smaller public school districts).
  9. I would think that any coach would want to know the potential talent level coming up. And for example, I doubt if a 6'10" freshmen 'new to the area' would end up at St Pat.
  10. There is a huge disparity between the number of students within the Diocese of Covington (12000+) and the Owsley County school district (450). These schools are only examples for my argument, but I think that associated private schools function much the same as a local school district. The Diocese of Covington has one primary superintendent of schools who is in charge of 29 elementary schools and 9 secondary schools. For this reason alone, I think that the "All A" school class should be redefined to address this disparity. To say that the 'private' schools success in athletics etc.. is largely due to any other reason than the numerical advantage of potential athletes may be misleading. To compare to the potential numberical advantage that the top Catholic 'basketball' schools hold, a Coach would be able to select athletes from 10 to 20 public school districts in Eastern Kentucky. (all of the 8 teams composing the 55th and 56th basketball districts probably have less combined students than do the schools within the Catholic Diocese of Covington, and that is including Estill, Powell and Breathitt who are too 'big' for the All A).
  11. No one should overlook anyone in this region, but I am sure that both Lee and Estill would prefer to play Owsley instead of Powell in the first round of the district tournament.
  12. I suppose that most facts begin as rumors and I doubt that there will ever be a 'formal' announcement that he has/has not quit. Even if he doesn't play he could still possibly be on the team. I have heard from multiple sources that he is no longer on the ream and I am sure that his team-mates know all about it. Of course it is usually possible to quit and then return. Owsley is not shown as having a game until Feb. 9 vs Oneida and the scoreboard doesn't show that they have any games to make-up.
  13. I think that Estill has won 7 straight. Lee returns home after an unsatisfying performance at the All A state championship in Richmond. Dixon and Berryman are an effective offensive combo but I don't think Estill will be able to stop Lee's inside-out game. Lee 68 Estill 60
  14. A lot of Lee Co fans are already in Richmond, so there probably wont be many posts from them. GOOD LUCK LEE CO !!!!
  15. I don't know if an actual 14th all star team would beat Brossart. I know they are good, particularily on defense. Haven't saw them play. Lee's team doesn't have any all-stars.
  16. Lee Co is a little school about an hours drive from Hazard. I think that you know who Hazard is.
  17. It's not the kid, its' statements like the above that draw the fire. Substitute any name. :flame:
  18. 178 total points ...... in 32 minutes. Between the two team there were probably 8 or 9 shots per minute on average; or 1 shot every 7 seconds, or about the time it takes to run down the floor and back. Fact is, in a game like this whoever is hitting will win. Wolfe probably shot as many as Estill but weren't hitting. I heard that Stamper only hit 2 or 3 out of 18 shots (almost all 3's), which sounds about right. Had he shot 40% the Wolves should have won. In fact, Wolfe can be a dangerous team to play this way. Cody was on the bench for at least 8 minutes due to fouls, so that was another factor. This was not a defensive showcase by either team, but Estill was leading and could afford to run with it. You don't have to play great defense when a team aint hitting. Dixon hits a high percentage of his shots. Estill was leading by 20 or so untill they missed several free throws down the stretch.
  19. I've tried Ronnie, but I just can't hate Dixon and Co. like I thought I could. Like Tyson Gross at Owsley last year, they just don't irritate the fans. Dixon is one of the best in the 14th, and yes I would much rather have on my team than Smith of Owsley. Controversey follows that kid around for some reason.
  20. True. Fetters may be the most under-rated player in the 14th and IMO is not far off from being the best all around player in the 14th. He is not a point guard, doesn't shoot many threes and doesn't try to score 30 points per game. I think that he was the MVP at the Johnson County Tournament and he has had several 20+ point games. Fetters and Warren of LCC are the best leapers that I've saw in the 14th. Rich is the best post player that I've saw in the 14th. LCC has a good post player also, but I don't know his name. Brandenburg is one of the top point guards. The Leisegang twins may go unnoticed at times, but they are among the best shooters in the 14th, and are strong versatile ball-handlers able to penetrate, rebound and play defense. List should also include: Hollon - Sophomore at Breathitt Eli Warren - Sr at LCC Davidson - Sophomore at Jackson City Fugate - Sr at Jackson City Dixon - Sr at Estill
  21. I would agree with that. Dixon is really a smart player and I think that he controlled the game more than Gilbert did. I didn't really mean to knock Estill in saying that they 'threw their defense out', but when a team can score without running offensive sets and the other team is just jacking up shots from everywhere then I guess that happens. I'm sure that the 2 starters being out caused some of those turnovers. RE the starters who didn't play- what positions do they play and do they normally handle the ball a lot? I remember Berryman helps out all around and is another smart player but couldn't remember who else helped bring the ball up the floor.
  22. Wolfe played a moderately successful half-court press- trap, forcing probably 20 Estill turnovers. When Estill beat the press they often scored layups. In half court defense Wolfe left huge gaps for penetration and easy shots. Dixon grabbed lots of offensive boards and helped overcome the press. Wolfe just seemed out of position on defense, just like the Buckhorn game in the All A. Since it was so easy to score against the Wolves, Estill kind of threw their defense out the window too. Stamper of Wolfe had a way off shooting night. Crowe fumbled the ball a lot for some reason and Gilbert eliminated himself from Wolfe's defense by committing 2 early fouls. If anyone penetrated near him he jumped out of the way to avoid a foul. Neither team was very patient in their shot selection, although Estill did run some clock doing a modified 3-man weave a couple of times. At the start of the game Wolfe posted Gilbert and just lobbed it to him for 5 straight automatic baskets with Dixon defending. I think the score was 14 to 4 (Wolfe) when Gilbert picked up his second foul. By the end of the first quarter, with Gilbert out, Estill had reclaimed the lead. Gilbert never really went back to the post position when he returned. Gilbert and Stamper were shooting looong threes with little success. Estill probably missed 10 free throws down the stretch or they would have scored well over 100. This was much more a playgound type game than a game of strategy. I don't think that things would have been played much different if the coaches had stayed at home.
  23. Freshmen I can think of - in no particular order: John Yancy Amis - PCC Aaron Charles - Lee Matt Amburgey - KCC (freshmen or soph) Ryan Allen - Breathitt Cory Dunaway - Lee Andy Blank - Buckhorn (freshmen or soph) ? Morgan - Leslie I am sure that LCC has some good freshmen also, and PCC has more than Amis but I can't remember their names.
  24. We've heard that the 10th Region "all a" is loaded.
  25. In a run and gun game the Owls may have a better chance.
