I researched and found the 89-90 Holmes team that won the 9th and finished as state runner-up, went 24-1 against 9th Region opponents (which included Scott, Campbell and SK at the time). Averaging 96.6pts/game, while giving up 70.8, for a margin of 25.8, which would tie the 19-20 Cov Cath team for third on the list. I knew they scored a bunch, didn't realize they gave up over 70ppg.

I wonder about the 89-90 Holmes team. I know they predate the Riherds scoreboard era, but they were a machine in NKY. But, that was 35+ years ago and memory fades a little...

Personal foul calls like that are “bang bang” judgement calls. Win some of those, lose some of those. It did not decide the game. Great football game, kids on both sides left it all on the field. I wish the outcome was different, but tip my cap to all of the kids that showed us why this is a special rivalry. Until next time…

Fair assessment. Regardless, this is a hallmark neighborhood rivalry and kudos to both schools for the commitment to keep it going.

Very happy for Coach Michels - well deserved and I know he will do a great job honoring the past, while forging his own path forward. I'm excited to see him put his own stamp on the program that he loves and has given so much time and effort to cultivate. Change is not easy and decisions like these weigh heavy on those required to make them. Coach Krumpelbeck is as good a man as he was a baseball coach. Making that call had to have been tough. I know Krumps had to make many difficult decisions over the years for the good of the program. Hopefully, in time, he'll understand that this decision was also made in the best interests of the program, just as he did countless times over his legendary, 48 year career. Congratulations again to Coach Krumpelbeck - an amazing man and an amazing legacy. I respect the administration for running a process and I sincerely respect Coach Michels for agreeing to embrace the process, compete and win the job. Some would have taken that as an insult, but again, knowing Coach Michels, he knew that a process was in the best interest of the program. By all accounts, he did an amazing job preparing for his interview and creating HIS vision for the baseball program. It feels good knowing that a man that cares so deeply about CCH baseball will be leading the program forward. As the saying goes: "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." Congratulations Coach Michels and congratulations to Bob Rowe and Tony Bacigalupo for running a successful, thorough process. My hope is the entire CCH community will embrace Coach Michels and help "one of its own" build upon the incredible tradition of Covington Catholic baseball.

I'll expand a little on my earlier post. The administration received interest from a number of very well qualified candidates. Of course, there were some more interesting than others - that's always the case. The pool was narrowed to a list of finalists for consideration. The final list was more than three and less than ten, but rest assured, this has been an extensive effort. You can take or leave my next comment - the opportunity was very attractive to a lot of really good, qualified baseball people. The administration is working very hard to identify the right candidate to lead this program and they'd never begin a process with only one name. They certainly prioritized candidates of interest, but they didn't put all their eggs in one basket. Whoever gets this job will be the right person for the job - they will certainly have earned it through the process.

Don’t know for sure on points off turnovers, but it was a boat load.

Understand the question, completely, but I don’t think so. CCH was 10-2 with losses to Ryle and Highlands. Moreover, while not on the historical scale of some in KY, this is a proud program with championship DNA. Watching the game, it was clear that physically, CCH’s rushing attack was too much for Boyle’s defense - CCH ran for 350 and when Boyle “cheated” to stop the run, Eddie had great counter moves in a limited, but highly effective, passing game. With that said, Quisenberry is INCREDIBLE and we didn’t see Brown after an early injury. “Q” darn near won the game single handedly. This was a toss up game the way it unfolded and CCH was fortunate to win against a great team, great program and one of the most dynamic players I’ve seen. Gotta believe there are larger upsets in state history. Colonels need to turn the page quick. They have their hands full on Friday.
