I've already had two recent grads from the Cov Cath baseball program text me and say that Michels was THE reason they stayed on playing baseball at Cov Cath.

That bodes well.

Coach Michels has been really well admired by players and parents for YEARS. Great hire.

Rumor is he is talking to one of the outside the box type coaches for an assitant role.

I'd swear I felt a slight breeze pick up in Park Hills around 2pm as the communal sigh of relief was let out by all the CCH faithful upon the arrival of the news that Greg Pass would not be the new ballcoach.

I was a high school baseball coach for 20 years. Long since retired. Coached against John at the J.V. level. Class act!! I can't say enough positives about the man. I think Cov.Cath. got it right. Congrats to him. Good luck coach!!!

Very happy for Coach Michels - well deserved and I know he will do a great job honoring the past, while forging his own path forward. I'm excited to see him put his own stamp on the program that he loves and has given so much time and effort to cultivate. 

Change is not easy and decisions like these weigh heavy on those required to make them.  Coach Krumpelbeck is as good a man as he was a baseball coach.  Making that call had to have been tough.  I know Krumps had to make many difficult decisions over the years for the good of the program.  Hopefully, in time, he'll understand that this decision was also made in the best interests of the program, just as he did countless times over his legendary, 48 year career.  Congratulations again to Coach Krumpelbeck - an amazing man and an amazing legacy.  

I respect the administration for running a process and I sincerely respect Coach Michels for agreeing to embrace the process, compete and win the job.  Some would have taken that as an insult, but again, knowing Coach Michels, he knew that a process was in the best interest of the program.  By all accounts, he did an amazing job preparing for his interview and creating HIS vision for the baseball program.  It feels good knowing that a man that cares so deeply about CCH baseball will be leading the program forward.  As the saying goes: "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

Congratulations Coach Michels and congratulations to Bob Rowe and Tony Bacigalupo for running a successful, thorough process.

My hope is the entire CCH community will embrace Coach Michels and help "one of its own" build upon the incredible tradition of Covington Catholic baseball.

As an assistant, sometimes you learn what to do from the HC and sometimes you learn what NOT to do!!!

My guess is he got a lot of both during his apprenticeship.

Agree with Falcon Pride! He brings new ideas and new coaches, give it time.
