Coach Wallace leaves Bowling Green Friday evening a very happy man. No doubt these Purples will be fired up though and it should be a nice crowd even after the opening loss. The defense will have to be the catalyst to this programs success for the year but I’m not sure it’ll be enough to beat a very stout X team. Purples offense will have to go back to the drawing board, not necessarily throwing away the whole gameplan but they don’t have the weapons to exploit matchups they’re notorious for with the injuries they’ve already accumulated. It will be a very difficult test in this matchup to get anything going. Tigers 28 Purples 10

I wouldn’t attempt to compare the loss of two of the top players in 5A who accounted for 40 of the Purples 69 offensive TD’s last season and had over half of their total yards with anyone the Aces returned this year. But to each their own I guess.

A lot of proven key contributors last night that were inactive didn’t help the debut of the QB Strautman in the Purple and Gold. I was very disappointed in what they did offensively last night, lacked the explosion we’ve seen yearly and if Barber, Smith are out for extended periods of time it may be a very ugly start for the perennial powerhouse. I thought the Defense looked decent, mentioned the punting situation in scrimmage last week and when Barber went out I thought it would get worse but I was impressed with the kid who stepped up. Very tough road ahead, it’s not out of the realm of possibility they start off 3-3,2-4 before they open district play. Should still be in play for the 1 seed, so at the end of the day their destiny is still in their own hands but man what a loss. Still stunned at what I witnessed.

Haven’t seen SR Jaxen Smith at all, and Barber didn’t play that offensive drive. Not a good sign for the Purples.

I think BG schedules as tough as anyone yearly, no shade in that regard, they’ve dropped their last 2 Rafferty’s Bowl matchups if I’m not mistaken. I’m just pointing out that two of the top programs in our state from this decade are in the same city, on the same night but aren’t playing one another, that’s unfortunate.

That’s fair, I wouldn’t include the Rafferty’s Bowl in that category because most years it’s some competitive football. A miss this season no doubt, couple that with losing LT Smith Stadium it’s just not a great look. I’m afraid the next game will bring a similar outcome, maybe not as dominant as this has been though.

Bullitt East needed to play Catholic, and we should’ve got a BG and Boyle matchup to end the night.

The Highlanders dominated the LOS, both sides of the ball. Raiders offense was stifled, couldn’t run the ball, Isable looked fine but had some questionable decisions that led to some turnovers. Not too familiar with IHSAA football but I’d say this Floyd Central team can win a couple of playoff games. The Raiders will be at the Swamp next week to take on the Greenwood Gators.

Dockery had a couple of TD passes to Davis in the 1H. Robbins and Richardson both scored two on the ground in the 2H. The Bears went on the road this evening and got a win and will host Ohio County next week in Morgantown, very good chance they’ll be starting 2-0.
