Just read where he was the MVP of the KY vs Ohio All Star game. (Well the MVP for KY anyway.) Did a little digging and saw where he had a good game against the Indiana JR All Stars last year. Seems like this kid is flying under the radar....

What was his record at Talawanda? Did I miss that or was that not in the write up??

Very entertaining game. Rebounding and crunch time free throws killed the Devils. Tip of the cap to the Ashland kids they never quit.

I’ll go with Kenyatta Carbon as my pick. Tough physical guard who’s averaging 22 ppg on the season. He should have been 3rd Region player of the year, IMO, but I also understand why he didn’t get it. Owensboro will go as he goes….

No idea about where McCowan might land for college.

You’re right. It may not work out for everyone who goes the prep school route. (Gabe Sisk came back to Ballard mid season.) But nothing in life works out for everyone all the time. Kentucky kids Zee McCowan,Kaleb Glenn,& Kaden Magwood had really strong years in the prep school realm. Salute to them.

Who are the unknown players that may open some eyes in Rupp??

Not sure. But I would say in the 20+ range. I was amazed by the 11 assists a game though.

Red Devils are playing some decent ball right now. If they keep playing D the way they did during district, and regionals, and they’ll be fine. Anybody know what does Ashland look like height wise??

Just read where McCowan was player of the year for his school or conference. Averaged 16 points per game and 11 assists per game! WOW!!

High/S. Illinois/Ohio University), Donovan Kates(Christian Co. High/Manhattan), Vinny Zollo(George Rogers Clark High/WKU/Cleveland St) Jordan Shanklin(Warren Central High/IUPUI), Zach Price(Jeffersontown/U of L/Winthrop), Timmy Knipp(Elliott Co. That was a very good class too! Justin Miller(Owensboro High; Sweet 16 MOP) went on to play for Louisiana Lafayette, and Detroit Mercy, scoring over 1,000 points at the D1 level. I also thought the 2001 class from the state was pretty strong. No NBA players but a lot of kids that contributed in college. That class had Patrick Sparks(Muhlenberg County/WKU/UK), Larry O’bannon(Male/U of L), Brian Thornton(Manual/Xavier/Vandy), Brandon Bender(Ballard/U of L), Adam Chiles(Ballard/UK/Murray St), Josh Carrier(Bowling Green/UK), Carlos Hurt(Moore/U of L), Micheal Haney (Madisonville/EKU), Ronny Dawn(Newport Catholic/Marshall), Lamar Owen (Owensboro/Southern Illinois), Coric Riggs(Fairdale/U of L/Weber State), Jeremy Kelly(PRP/UT-Martin), & several others.

That was a very strong class! The forgotten man from that group is Tyler Brown from Owensboro Apollo. Brown actually lead KY to a victory against the Indiana All Stars that year at the Louisville Gardens. He ended up signing with Illinois St after being named an All American at the junior college level. He scored over 1,000 points in just two years as a Red Bird. That was back when the Missouri Valley was a very strong league. (Wichita St made a Final Four while he was there.) Brown went on to play in the D-League for the Boston Celtics Maine Red Claws.
