Good work. I would add Torin Bryant. A senior this year and 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. He's coming off a knee injury and ACL surgery. Could be one of Highlands' top players but he won't be on any watch lists because of the injury. A two-way lineman and long snapper so he's important. He can play guard, center, defensive tackle and defensive end. Of note, he's been class president and prom king and 4.242 GPA. Definitely a kid to root for.

On the contrary, keeping the Wing-T will hurt WV going forward because it pigeon holes players, creating round holes for square pegs. If they go multiple, which I think they'll do to give players the best chance to excel, they can still have the Wing-T formation in addition to all the sets they implement. In football, options are key and I believe that is the rout WV is going.

Just to be clear. CovCath is in the 35th District. Highlands is in the 36th so they're not district rivals. They're regional rivals. The other teams that are 35th District rivals of CovCath are Beechwood, Holmes and Holy Cross. Are we talking about David Henley? I heard he just retired at Eastern and was done with coaching. Given those recent circumstances, that truly would be a shock. However, he's only 58 (only, he says...) so he's "young" enough to still keep coaching. He’s one of a small group of Kentucky basketball coaches with 500 career wins and a state championship, 2009 at Holmes.

An important part. The scholarship money. Ticket sales from the game go toward $500 scholarships given to 20 players. Bigger the crowd the better it is for the people pulling off this heroic effort every year for the kids.

Agree. Dayton's football stadium was one of the last places in northern Kentucky where you could walk in the venue and feel lost in time. That was a cool feeling. I don't see why you can't try to retain some of that mystique with the new stadium by making it something new that looks old in some areas. If I was an architect, I would have tried to marry some of the old with the new at Dayton so people can still say wow what a cool place instead of wow what a new place.

I've got to think they'll abandon the Wing-T offense now, something coach Barth had installed for years at Walton. My guess is the Bearcats go multiple on offense under Pence so scheme can better fit player skills.

Not so fast. Don't forget about Jeff Stowers. I can see SK returning him to the head coach spot with Pernell as top assistant and maybe, maybe former SK standout Ally Niece as another assistant. That would be a formidable threesome on staff and also a seamless transition for the team. Jeff never left the bench as Brenden coached the team the last two years. Brenden tried to get Ally on staff during his two seasons but she was entering the workforce and wanted to get her bearings at work before making other commitments. I know that she is comfortable at work and ready to coach. Clip and save.

To see this doubling and tripling down from the outside in at the expense of a man's family's reputation just doesn't seem reasonable nor open-minded to all the possibilities in what we all have to agree is a crazy unpredictable life here on Earth. I'm just wondering what kind of coach and teacher would proffer such a flawed and unsubstantiated claim and then keep hammering it. That said, I think I know who the next coach is going to be. Sorry, Guru. Can't name him now.

I respect your opinion though I disagree and I support your right to share it but I think you're overreacting just a bit. It's a little cynical to assume ill intent on the part of another person and then share an uncorroborated opinion when you don't really know the whole story. I know a lot of this story, trust me. I mean, can other coaches now critique your career choices since this is apparently fair game? No, that wouldn't be fair. They would be on the outside looking in and wouldn't know the whole story. Maybe this, maybe that you say. Maybe give more facts to support your notion instead of merely conjecturing at the expense of a good family and little kids who look up to their dad. I think that's a little more fair to coach Barth, who's pretty much beyond reproach IMO.

That's a bad take. He wasn't looking for a job. He was planning on coaching this coming season. But an ideal situation unexpectedly came up vocationally and he weighed the pros and cons with his family and decided in the best interests of his family knowing full well it wasn't ideal for the WV kids. That's why he was completely honest with his players and he did it twice. Once with the seniors before a senior field trip and once with the rest of the team later in the day. He's saving more than gas money. He's saving memories with his loved ones by making more time with his family which you can't put a price on. Why don't you ask the players how they feel instead of speaking for them.

Coach Barth, an absolute gentleman, is leaving for Ludlow to cut down on his massive commute. It's that simple.
