SW forces a punt on the Black Bears first drive. immediately connect on a 64 yard bomb. 7-0 SW 8 minutes left in the first.

It’s very easy to play ‘Monday morning quarterback’ but it blew my mind how much Danville aired it out tonight. Cville clearly outmatches and out-athletes the Ads. Despite that, it seemed like every other play was a pass (if not more) which led to the game being extended and two pick sixes. I understand that it’s easier to be in the stands than on the sidelines, but it seems like—at the very least—the Ads could stop the bleeding by not throwing the air out of the ball every game. And, maybe, they could get a couple opponents into deep water by keeping the clock rolling and the ball on the ground. With all that being said, I’m not a coach and it’s easy for me to say…

Can someone please clear something up for me? Per the NFHS rules, is offsides automatically a dead ball? Or does the defender have the chance to get back “onside” prior to the ball being snapped as you would see in college or the NFL. Last season, I had an official tell me that offsides in HS is always dead per a rule change at point. I was reluctant to believe them, but more often than not in the last two seasons I have seen a flag thrown and a penalty instituted the moment a defender enters the neutral zone—regardless of whether they touch someone AND prior to the ball being snapped.*** However, this season, I have seen crews operate differently. Some have operated as I’ve previously described, and some have operated in the College/NFL way. Someone smarter than me please let me know what’s going on. ***This is also assuming the defender doesn’t cause an offensive player to jump.
