Campbellsville 36 Danville 0

Featured Replies

In some high school Thursday night football, Campbellsville activates a running clock on the Admirals before the end of the second quarter and there were no more scores after that.  The Ads had a few chances to score once the Eagles JV team came on but some turnovers hurt them a lot.  Two of the Eagles varsity scores were on interception returns.

Eagles remain unbeaten and go to 7-0.  Admirals go in another direction and extend their losing streak to 18 games.  They are now 0-6.

The Ads have been held scoreless through 4 straight games now (16 straight quarters).  Last time they scored a touchdown was against Pulaski County in week 2.  That means their 13 total points, the lowest mark in Class 2A, will continue for another week.

Eagles will be on a bye next week.  The Admirals will play host to Leslie County (4-2) in their first district game.

I watched some of this one I wanna commend those kids for Danville for playing hard and never getting out of spirit. Keep them heads up and keep fighting young men!!

I commented in the game thread that Danville's defense isn't bad and has shown some progress over the course of the year.  However, they just can't do anything offensively and that causes the defense to get tired/give up big plays.

With Sellers back for Leslie County we'll see if that can give the Ads a needed spark.

I saw that last year with Hazard. Offense couldn’t do anything and the defense lived on the field

Doesn't help when your Qb throws 6 INTs. After the 3rd one, shouldn't you just run the ball?

It’s very easy to play ‘Monday morning quarterback’ but it blew my mind how much Danville aired it out tonight.

Cville clearly outmatches and out-athletes the Ads. Despite that, it seemed like every other play was a pass (if not more) which led to the game being extended and two pick sixes. I understand that it’s easier to be in the stands than on the sidelines, but it seems like—at the very least—the Ads could stop the bleeding by not throwing the air out of the ball every game. And, maybe, they could get a couple opponents into deep water by keeping the clock rolling and the ball on the ground.

With all that being said, I’m not a coach and it’s easy for me to say…

I do think you hit on something, though, as the Ads over this season haven't had much of an offensive identity.  Like you say, its easy to "Monday morning quarterback" but through 6 games I feel like the team doesn't quite know what it wants to do.  Offensive series will see some basic runs but then have screen passes.  Sometimes there are option plays.  But the screens and options often seem to result more in negative yardage.

With the Ads present talent situation, I'm not sure why they don't run more Wildcat with Sellers or something like that.  At least the ball is in your best players hands more.  That was mute in this game, though, with Sellers sitting out.  This isn't an indictment of the QB Doyle either.  He's been thrown into a bad spot as a freshman and would normally be getting JV reps if the Ads were better staffed with players.  He had a bad game tonight but will hopefully learn from it.

I did like that the Ads kept the penalties down tonight.  That hurt them less than previous games.  And the defense kept hitting hard throughout, even when the game had clearly turned against them.  But if the Ads hope to break this losing streak they've got to do better than -2 yards of total offense for a half of football (as was the case with quarters 1 & 2 tonight).

The Eagles win at home on Senior night with the Defense getting in the scoring column.. Campbellsville held Danville to 18 total yards while creating 5 turnovers.. Braylon Beard had two INT's and a pick six while Les Colvin had a pick six as well.. LD Smith also had a interception and Garrett McFadden had a fumble recovery for 54 yards.. Danville has some good young athletes that can cause teams problems when they get to the second level... The Eagles head into their open week with lots to still work on.. Good Luck to Danville the rest of the way..

Longest scoreless streak since being shut out four times in a row in 1925, although two of those were scoreless ties (Stanford, tied 0-0; Lancaster, lost 24-0; Midway, tied 0-0; Carlisle, lost 3-0). That's a long time ago...

If its any consolation, the Admirals went 42-2-2 over the next five seasons! Maybe better days are in store for Danville this time, too.
