Gulf, outstanding post. The good ole boy network is not just limited to Woodford County. It seems to be the trend in Kentucky. Let’s see how the rest of the hires play out. Wishing all the new coaches the best.

To mooremiller and behind the line. I am not just referring to the Woodford job. If you look at the hires for boys basketball in the last 3 years inKentucky it is overwhelmingly local coaches only. That is not feeling .That is a fact. Yes,schools can hire who ever they choose. With that being said, I know for a fact that there a few outstanding candidate with sterling resumes who would like the opportunity to coach in the state of Kentucky, but because they are not from the area or they don’t “know” someone on the inside, they don’t even get the opportunity to interview. Again, schools can hire whomever they choose. Just suggesting that A D’s might want to broaden their scope in their search. Especially if they want a program that will compete consistently at the state level.

Now let’s see if they really do a true search or just look locally. We shall see.

Last 10 years 171-139. Not exactly off the charts.. Woodford , with a coach who knows how to build a program could be very good.

What was his head coaching record at the high school level before this hire?

It depends on what people define as “talent”. Most people think talent means good athletes. That definitely helps, but you must also develop kids who have great basketball skills. It starts with making the most of what you have and developing your program from the ground up (elementary and middle school). Also, the other factors discussed here previously. Great thread and discussion.

I know there has been interest from very qualified successful coaches from outside the local area. We shall see if they pursue those coaches. You are right.very good opportunity.

The job has drawn interest. The question is are they only looking at certain people or really opening up the search?

Schools can obviously hire whomever they choose. Just making a point about the coaching opportunities in the state.

Not sour grapes and not lack of knowledge. Just be open to the possibility that their may be qualified coaches with experience and succes who may want the opportunity to coach in Kentucky.

This seems to be the case with most coaching job openings in Kentucky. Mostly local searching. Regardless of someone’s qualifications or coaching record.

If a real coach can come in and create a culture of excellence from top to bottom and win and help kids get to the next level, then it doesn’t matter what style of ball you play.

Well we shall see if they do a true search and want to have a program that is competitive at the state level on a yearly basis.

As I said that is where the powers that be look for someone who can come in and change the culture.
