  1. That is correct. Per Kevin Patton of the Henderson Gleaner Webster Co. has hired Zachary LaGrange, offensive coordinator off of last years team.
  2. As far as the Henderson County beating McLean by more than Webster I don't think it matters much. I mean I understand the rationale behind that thinking. But that's pretty typical for Webster Co. The way they play ball is to slow the game down and play good defense so a lot of their wins are low scoring affairs in which they don't win by much. Il admit I haven't watched Henderson this year but in years past they've always played a lot of man to man. If that's the case I just don't see who Henderson has that's going to be able to slow down the House & Edmonson boys in the paint. As far as the Calloway kid goes. It could be a little controversial letting him join mid season but I think most of the players would be for it if he's going to make their team better. I disagree that Smithart "didn't think he was good enough for the team." All I've heard so far this season from the Henderson side is wait untill Taye comes back there going to be better. Then to just not only not having him anymore but that he's going to be playing for the opposition could end up being a big deal in the 6th district in my opinion.
  3. Just outta curiosity I noticed that most of these meets are Bench, Squat, & Powerclean. Does any highschool meets use the traditional 3 lifts of bench, squat, and deadlift like in a real powerlifting competition?
  4. Since the 08 Miller/ Hopson debate has already been brought up. Just to add something to that. 2008 high school basketball was really something special here in the bluegrass. There were quite a few players that year that probably would have won Mr Basketball had they been in any other graduating class. Darius Miller, Scotty Hopson, Shelvin Mack, and of course the very sad wasted talent of Bud Mackey. Does anyone recall another year in Kentucky were there was that level of talent?
  5. I know the general consensus year in and year out is that Henderson will win the 6th. I just don't see how they manage to get it done this year. Last years team was probably one of the best in school history but they literally lost everybody. They brought back nobody with any kind of in game expirence and losing the Calloway kid just makes matters worse although I don't think it would of made a difference. I think Webster wins the district. They brought back far more players with expirence and I don't think Henderson or Union will be able to stop the 6ft 8 Edmonson boy. And really to be honest Webster out coaches Henderson. Jon Newton is the best coach in the district and usually plays Henderson close with far less talent. This year he has equal if not better talent than Henderson. I read that Union expects to have the Calloway kid cleared and ready to play by January. If that's the case it will be interesting to see how much better he makes them. It's one thing to lose the best player on your team. It's a double whammy to lose him and him suiting up for your district rival. If he's cleared and makes them better which he should. I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see Henderson finish 3rd in the district and completely miss the region tournament for the first time in idk how long.
  6. Not sold on Henderson being a top 4 team in the region. Don't even think they win their district. Webster Co. brings back a lot more players with in game expirence than Henderson Co.
  7. I assumed that a place like Ohio would draw a bigger crowd for their high school championships than Kentucky. Even with that being the case hypothetically if Ohio drew 40,000 people (much more than Kentucky draws) to their championship games. That would still leave 65,000+ open seats at Ohio Stadium. Like I said I could care less. I just never understood it mattering if all the seats were filled.
  8. I could care less about where the games played, honestly I'm a lot closer to BG than Lexington or Louisville, but I don't understand the rationale that because their would be unfilled seats at Commonwealth or Papa Johns that it should be a huge factor in determining where the games are played. Other states do it for their championship games. Lucas Oil Stadium is as big of a venue as Commonwealth and the Indiana folks don't seem to have any complaints. Ohio plays theirs in the massive 100,000+ Horseshoe.
  9. Webster Co. Football is a very hard thing to explain, trust me I played there. There's ALWAYS been issues with the school board and very little funding. I know when I played there a few years ago there wasn't even a full weight room and we took a charter bus to games, not because we were a almighty team that needed a charter bus, the school admin wouldn't let the football team use school busses to travel to games due to funding which left parents and boosters paying to rent a charter every away game. The AD their Matt Bell is really trying, I believe that. The problem is he's the only one trying. It really is a revolving door. The coaches they've hired either aren't qualified to be a head coach and have had little assistant expirence or the ones who are qualified use it as a stepping stone. I believe Browning wanted to be in this area due to family and took the job, then when something better in the area opened up (Muhlenberg) he bolted. Believe it or not it's not a talent issue at Webster County. Their boys basketball and baseball teams are to successful to believe their isn't athletes in that school. It's a culture issue. The best athletes in that school play basketball or baseball and very few of them also play football. The kids don't want to come out and play football on a bad team which is what Webster's been historically, it's hard to get kids to want to come out and get smashed every Friday. And on the flip side they usually dress around 25 kids. If they had a coach come in there and push them to the level they need to be pushed to be successful id venture to say about 10 of the kids would quit and they'd have about 15 players. I've watched this go on and on and I really think it might be in Webster's best interest to competely drop out of the district. Build a schedule of Fulton's, Hop Centrals, etc and start building the program back from scratch.
  10. Does anyone know if there will be a live game stream on the Internet?
  11. It's hard to win a region championship with a back up freshman QB. A wins a win tho.
  12. 60 wins at Henderson County before the county/city schools merged. 32 wins at Union County. And then 96 at Henderson County after the schools merged and their was only 1 high school.
  13. I agree a little. Don't get me wrong I know Henderson Co. was down this year, a 4-6 record is indicative of that. But I do believe and I could be wrong that out of the 6 losses the worst team they had gotten beat by was a 8-3 Christian co. team. This was the first loss that was to a bad team. No disrespect to Meade but they had 2 wins. I really expected Henderson to make it threw this one then get trounced next Friday on the road. I thought Henderson was a lot better than their record but Meade proved to be the team that outplayed their record tonight. They just played a hard physical game. It was 7-6 Hendersons lead most the game and at the end Meade made the plays to win. They stacked the box all night and stopped Carter something few other teams had done. That's what happens when your passing game is absolutely no threat at all. Good luck to the Green Wave next weekend. On to the next season.
  14. Dang no love for the Henderson Co. Colonels this week.. Not even top 15 love? Look I get it a 4-6 record looks trash. And getting smacked around by O'boro on Friday sure didn't help matters. But I would argue this much. That same Butler Co. team that's ranked #11 acquired a 8-2 record against terrible competition, opponents combined record of 41 wins & 59 losses. Now I know I'm biased don't get me wrong but I think Henderson Co. would have fared a little better playing that schedule rather than the one they did (opponents 71-31). Not to mention the same Ohio County team Butler squeaked out a win against by 4 points Friday, Henderson took to the woodshed 35-0 earlier this season. But hey I guess the fact that I'm even comparing Henderson Co. to Butler Co. shows what kinda year it's been for the Colonels this year.
  15. I'm not going to get into a debate with anyone on here about wether a high school coach deserves to be fired solely based off wins and losses. My opinion on the matter is that is does matter to a extent but it really is determined a lot on where your coaching. In my experiences I'm pretty familiar with two different programs. Henderson county and Webster County, and those 2 schools have completely different philosophies. Webster county isn't a football school nor are they probably ever going to be. I believe In the past 8 seasons they've have 5 different head coaches. At a school like that so long as you want to be there, your not having any scandals going on within the team, your win loss records doesn't matter much. Their just going to be thankful they have a coach that wants to be there. On the other end of the spectrum is Henderson County. They expect to win ball games. Yes they expect you to teach life lessons and all that other good stuff but come Friday night your expected to win. A place like Henderson if you don't win regularly your prone to not getting your contract renewed. As far as someone being on a hot seat I think it's fair to say Tony Lewis at Henderson's seat is a little warm. Is it likely something happens after this season I doubt it, but when he was hired their was some controversy within the community about him getting the job over Josh Boston (current Union county head coach) at the time Boston had been the top assistant for something like 5 years and had the backing of the players. Everyone assumed if he didn't get the job it was only going to be because a sure fire candidate applied that couldn't be passed on. And Tony Lewis was that guy. A state championship at Reitz in Evansville and a unbelievable winning record there, he came in and had very high expectations placed on him. And thus far I believe it's fair to say him or the teams he's coached here haven't quite lived up to the hype. I know talent fluctuates over time, but when previous head coaches have been successful and you haven't it does look bad on you regardless of what the talent is. In the Duffer Duffy era Henderson Co. went 31-7. In the Clay Clevenger era they went 44-27 (with 9 of those losses in the first season which is hard for me to count because he took the job right before the season started), and so far Lewis is 18-16.
  16. I'll take the Colonels in a close one, by a touchdown. But also would not be overly surprised if they get beat by 30. Owensboro is a better team case closed but the best team don't always win. I believe a couple things really stand out to help Henderson's chances. 1. Their healthier than they have been all year. 2. O'boro is going to be missing some key guys. 3. Henderson is coming off a bye week and have had a extra week to prepare. Should be a really good game tho. Looking forward to it.
  17. Big rilvary game this Friday at Rash. Recent history has shown records don't mean much in this game. Predictions?
  18. Hey Cols did you ever hear anything specific on why memorial was put on the schedule. I understand the Gibson Southern with them being out of the city. But I will say memorial kinda surprised me just because there not usually very good year in and year out (at least I thought that, could be wrong not a huge follower of Indiana football). I personally really liked the series with North that had been going on for many years. Castle & Mater Dei would have also been some fun games.
  19. I know this was directed for Cols but I figured I'd give me 2 cents. I'd be surprised if the Indiana teams ever come off the schedule. I'm not against them being on it either, I understand why. With Henderson being on the border their getting quality opponents and a relatively short drive. Even though their out of state programs it's still a much quicker drive than to play in state programs of the same caliber. I will say that a lot of it depends on who the coach is though. I know back in the Duffer days and even in the Clevenger days their was always some Souther Indiana schools on the schedule (castle, Reitz, north). I believe now though with Tony Lewis being coach and coming from Reitz that he has a lot of connections with Souther Indiana teams. That's why there's more on the schedule now than in years past. This year their was 3 (memorial, Reitz and Gibson Southern) and that's the most I can ever remember being played in one season.
