Taylor County (4-17): The Cardinals lost both games this week, but both were to region favorites. Their schedule has been brutal, and it doesn’t get easier going forward. They have been led by Chase Allen and Jacob Taylor, who are both averaging at least 17 points per game this year. They will be the 3 seed in their district tourney. 16. 2. 1. John Hardin (17-5): Bruins started off the week with a loss, but ended the week with a big win. They lost to Adair County at Adair, 66-65. They beat Fort Knox 88-43 and beat Oldham County 73-46. They lost another region game, but beating a top 20 team in Oldham, was very big for them. Standout Mickey Pearson had 33 and 12 versus Oldham, as they lost to them earlier in the year, so that was an impressive bounce back win. John will get its chance at more revenge, as they play Elizabethtown at home this upcoming week. 2. Larue County (18-2): The Hawks continue to win, as they won all three games this week, and lead the region in wins at 18 currently. They beat Glasgow at Glasgow 63-48, beat district opponent Caverna at their place 75-48, and beat Dupont Manuel 57-54 in a classic at John Hardin. Larue has had a great year so far, and both their losses have come to very good teams. Anthony Adkins had 17 to lead Larue versus Glasgow, as he continues to play very well. Larue has a big 5th region matchup at home versus Adair County this upcoming week. 3. Elizabethtown (12-6): The Panthers went 1 and 1 this week, as they got upset to start off the week, but ended it with a win. They lost to North Hardin 68-63 and beat Christian Academy- Louisville 73-53 at John Hardin in a classic. After the big win versus John Hardin, they had a letdown losing to district opponent North Hardin. Darius Harding continues to be the guy for them. They have a big district matchup with John Hardin at John Hardin this upcoming week. 4. Adair County (13-7): The Indians had a great week as they went 2 and 0 and upset the region favorite. They beat John Hardin 66-65, and beat Marion County at Marion 79-77. The Indians got a lot of confidence taking down John Hardin. They do seem to be playing their best basketball right now. Dre Boyd had 11 and 17 versus John Hardin, as he has improved all year. Adair has a big 5th region game at Larue County this upcoming week. 5. Central Hardin (13-7): Great week for the Bruins as they won all three games including one which was a district win. They beat Eastern 64-54, beat North Hardin 54-48, and beat Daviess County 66-63 at John Hardin in a classic. Daviess County is one of the best teams in the third region, so that was a very good win for Central. Chase Elmore led the way with 22 versus Eastern. This upcoming week Central Hardin will be looking to increase their 3-game winning streak. 6. Marion County (12-9): The Knights won 1 and lost 2 this week, but both losses were by 2 points. They lost to East Jessamine at East Jessamine 57-55, beat Nelson County at Nelson 83-56, and lost to Adair 79-77. Marion almost came away with a very impressive win over Adair, as the Knights were very close to pulling off the upset. Lez Means continues to be excellent, as he had 26 versus Nelson County. Marion has some very winnable games this upcoming week, as they hope to continue to be playing very good basketball. 7 Washington County (11-10): They did not have a game this week. They have been playing very well lately, as they have won 5 out of their last 6. Cameron Willis has been the guy, as he is averaging 19 points per game. This upcoming week are all very winnable games, so Washington is hoping to stay on the winning path. 8. Bardstown (12-7): The Tigers only played one game, but that one game was a 2-point win. They beat Kentucky Country Day 62-60. They have done well as of late, as they have won 5 out of their last 6 games. Still a threat to win their district, Tereylin Calbert led them with 17 in the close win. They have two big road district games this upcoming week. 9. Hart County (11-8): The Raiders won all three games this week, as they are playing their best basketball of the year. They beat district foe Green County 58-53, beat Nelson County 60-46, and beat Taylor County 64-58. Hart has won an incredible 9 out of their last 10 games. John Shoulders led Hart with 20 and 10 in the win versus Taylor County. Hart has a game at Barren this upcoming week, where if they can win, will be a big statement for them. 10. Green County (9-11): The Dragons went 1 and 2 this week, but they did get to experience playing at 1A State. Green lost to Hart County at Hart 58-53, lost to Mayfield 65-50 in the All A State Tournament, and beat Metcalfe County at Metcalfe 62-50. The Dragons have been very competitive all year, although they have a young team. Zyler Bardin led Green with 14 points at the All A State. Dragons play the district favorite, Larue, on the road this upcoming week. 11. North Hardin (7-15): Trojans went 1 and 2 this week, but had a huge district upset over Elizabethtown. North Hardin looks likely to be the 4 seed in their district. However, they could be a tough out for someone, come tourney time. 12. Caverna (7-13): They lost all three games this week, including one district game. They have been struggling lately, as they have lost 5 in a row. Key for Caverna is to avoid the 4 seed in their district. 13. Campbellsville (8-11): The Eagles got a 5th region win this week over Thomas Nelson. They have played very well at times. The key for them is to be more consistent, as they do have a lot of young players. 14. Taylor County (4-15): The Cardinals lost all three games this week. This has not been the usual Taylor County, to say the least. Irvin supposedly is coming back soon, so this could be what the Cardinals need to turn it around. 15. Bethlehem (7-11): They had a good week, as they won two out of their three games. They ended their 6-game losing streak, and hope to build off that. Good news for Bethlehem, their district is wide open. 16. Nelson County (5-15): They played two games this week, and lost both games to 5th region opponents. Out of their last 7 games, Nelson has won once. They have a big district game versus Thomas Nelson this upcoming week. 17. Thomas Nelson (2-17): They lost all three games this week as they continue to struggle. They did have an overtime loss, as they came very close to getting their third win of the year. Currently, they have an 8-game losing streak. 18. Fort Knox (1-12): They played only one game this week, which was to the district/region favorite, that was a blowout loss. Fort Knox is still trying to get that second win of the year. They have an 8 game losing streak.
  3. 1. John Hardin (15-4): The Bruins played two district games this week and won the home contest and lost the road contest. They got upset at Elizabethtown 85-67, and beat North Hardin 71-52. John losing to a 5th region team could give other teams some confidence. Even with the loss, Mickey Pearson had 20 and 16. John plays Adair this week. They can still show that the Elizabethtown loss was just one game and not who they really are. 2. Elizabethtown (11-5): The Panthers played one game this week and what a performance it was. They beat region/district favorite John Hardin 85-67. This is the best 5th region win by anybody. It should give the Panthers a ton of confidence going forward. The big 3 of Durbin, Franklin, and Harding combined for 58. They play North Hardin this week and hope to continue its great play. 3. Larue County (15-2): The Hawks played in the Toyota Classic this week and went 1 and 1. They beat Wayne County 56-43 and lost to Scott County 91-53. Scott County is as good as anybody in the state so Larue had their work cut out for them. Anthony Adkins had 24 vs Scott County. The Hawks play Glasgow next week so it will be a good test as Glasgow is a good team. 4. Adair County (11-7): The Indians played two games this week with a close loss and a win. They lost at Glasgow 78-77 and beat Nelson County 94-78. How good Adair is, is something that a lot of people still don’t know. This upcoming week Adair plays John Hardin at home, so we will learn a lot there. Zion Harmon has continued to be great but senior Hunter Cundiff has been good also as he provided 17 and 11 versus Nelson County. To contend, Harmon will need other guys to step up. 5. Central Hardin (10-6): The Bruins had a tough week as they lost both of their matchups this week. They lost to Anderson County 66-63 and lost to Perry County Central 78-57. Bruins did face two good teams, but losing both games in a week is never a good week. They play district foe North Hardin this week as they try to get back to their winning way. They continue to be led by Jacob Hobbs who is averaging 9 and 8. 6. Marion County (11-7): The Knights had one game this week and it was a district win. They beat Campbellsville at Campbellsville 54-37. Marion plays in a lot of high scoring games so it was impressive to see them win a low scoring game like this. Marion plays Adair this next week,so that is a great opportunity for the Knights. Lez Means continues to be the guy for Marion as he is averaging 19.5 points per game. 7. Washington County (11-10): They had two games this week and they went 1 and 1. They beat Burgin 71-40 and lost to Somerset 76-59. The loss to Somerset ended a 5-game winning streak. Somerset is a good team so Washington is continuing to play good basketball. Josh Burkead led Washington County in their game versus Burgin by scoring 15 points. Washington County is off this next week. 8. Green County (8-9): Dragons played in the 5th region All A classic this week and they ended up winning it. They defeated Green County 81-79, beat Bethlehem 70-58 and beat Bardstown in the finals 53-49. What a great week for Green as they won the All A classic and they get to go to All A state now. Green has been led by big man Isaac Young all year. Busy week next week, as they play 3 games this next week. 9. Bardstown (11-7): The Tigers played in the 5th region All A classic this week and they got runner up. They beat Campbellsville 66-65, beat Fort Knox 79-35 and lost in the finals to Green County 53-49. The Tigers continue to be a balanced basketball team. They were very close to capturing the championship but they fell just short. The Tigers play just one game this week as it’s a home game versus Kentucky Country Day. 10. Caverna (7-10): They played in the 5th region All A classic and lost their first game to the eventual champion. They lost to Green County 81-79. They played Green closer than anyone else did in the All A Classic. They were led by Jobby Howard who scored 32 versus Green County. His last two games he has combined for 97 points. They play district favorite Larue County this upcoming week. 11. Hart County (8-8): The Raiders played one game this week and it was an impressive win over a solid 4th region team. Hart has won 5 out of its last 6 games. Hart will play two 5th region opponents this week. 12. Campbellsville (7-11): The Eagles lost both games this week, with one being a district game and the other being the All A classic. They have lost 5 out of their last 6. They have two winnable games this week to try to get back on track. 13. Taylor County (3-12): Cardinals played one game this week and they lost in the Toyota Classic. Out of the last 8 games Taylor has just won 1 game. Taylor has a busy week ahead as they have 4 games. 14. North Hardin (5-13): They played the favorite in region and their district this week as they lost for their only game this week. The Trojans have won 1 out of their last 7 games. They play two district games in this upcoming week. 15. Nelson County (5-13): They played two road games but got one big win, which was a district win. Nelson played very well this week. They play two 5th region opponents this next week. 16. Bethlehem (5-13): Had a rough week as they lost in the All A Classic and lost a district game. They currently have a 6-game losing streak. They have 3 games this upcoming week. 17. Thomas Nelson (2-14): Thomas Nelson only played one game this week and that was a road blowout loss. They have won 1 out of their last 10 games as they have been struggling. They play 3 games this upcoming week. 18. Fort Knox (1-11): They played only one game this week and it was in the All A Classic, where they lost to the eventual runner up. They have a 7-game losing streak currently. They play 3 games this upcoming week.
  4. 1. John Hardin (14-3): John only played once this week, but they got a big district win. They beat Central Hardin, at Central Hardin 83-62. The Bulldogs did this without their second leading scorer in Malik Wright, serving his second game suspension due to an ejection. Standout player Mickey Pearson had 30 and 11 versus Central. Central Hardin had been playing very well, but John just continues to show why they are the heavy favorites in the 5th region. 2. Larue County (14-1): The Hawks played a 5th region opponent, and took care of business with a blowout win. They beat Fort Knox 90-53. Shane King led the Hawks in that win with 16 points. The balance of Larue causes a lot of team’s trouble when game planning for them. This has been favorable so far, but Larue plays in the Toyota Classic which will really show us how good they are. 3. Elizabethtown (10-5): The Panthers had a good week, as they got two blowout district wins. They beat Fort Knox 84-44 and beat North Hardin, at North Hardin 74-48. This was a good week after getting upset on their home court versus Central Hardin. Star player Darius Harding had 32 and 13 versus North Hardin. E-town is a good team. When they are making their outside shots, they can beat almost anybody in the region. 4. Adair County (10-6): The Indians won all three games this week, including one shootout. Adair beat Caverna 119-103 in overtime, they beat Greenwood, at Greenwood 70-61 and beat Metcalfe County 95-55. Zion Harmon set the school record for points in a game, by scoring 54 against Caverna. Adair also won without Harmon, versus Greenwood. Harmon has been even better than advertised, but defense is still a huge question mark with the Indians. 5. Central Hardin (10-5): The bruins played the top team in the region and their district, as they lost their only game this week. They lost to John Hardin 83-62. Central has shown they can play close to most teams, but John has shown to be a tough matchup. Gavin George led them with 20 points versus John Hardin. No team will want to play Central when tournament time rolls around. 6. Marion County (10-7): The Knights played a 5th region opponent and escaped Lebanon with a close win. They beat Green County 60-57. They were without Jamison Epps, who was sitting out his last game due to an ejection. Luke Thomas, the senior sharpshooter, led Marion in scoring with 16 points. Marion has had a lot of injuries and players being out, but they have withstood all that adversity and remained very solid. Marion has a big home district game approaching versus Adair, which will be a great opportunity for the Knights. 7. Washington County (10-9): Washington has continued its hot streak by winning its only game, which was a district game. They beat Nelson County 62-47. Cameron Yates led them with 25 points versus Nelson County. Washington has played its best ball all year lately, and they currently have a 4-game winning streak. They have been a pleasant surprise, and have a good shot to win their district for the first time in a long time. 8. Bardstown (9-6): The Tigers this week got a home district win. They beat Bethlehem 57-53. Jarel Montgomery led Bardstown with 16 points versus Bethlehem. This Bardstown team hasn’t been like the normal tigers, but they have continued to find ways to win. When it comes to their district, they have owned the district the last couple of years. So, you know the Tigers still believe they are the team to beat in their district. Tigers have the 5th region 1A classic coming up where they will be one of the favorites. 9. Caverna (7-9): Caverna played one game this week, and they lost an entertaining game, to say the least. They lost to Adair County at Adair County, 119-103 in overtime. Even though it was a loss, it was a great showing for Caverna. Talking about a great performance, Jobby Howard scored an insane 65 points versus Adair. Jobby Howard isn’t a big name statewide, but after this performance, that has changed. Caverna is playing their best ball right now. 10. North Hardin (5-12): Rough week for North as they lost a district game and then lost a close 5th region matchup. They lost to Elizabethtown 74-48, and lost to Taylor County 49-45. North had been playing well before this week, but getting blown out by E-town was a surprise. North has played some great teams and barely lost, but they need to start beating the lesser teams as well. 11. Hart County (7-8): The Raiders won a matchup with a 5th region opponent this week. Hart has been playing way better as of late, as they have won four out of their last five. The problem for Hart right now, is they are the 4 seed in their district. 12. Campbellsville (7-9): The Eagles lost their only game this week versus a 5th region opponent. The Eagles have had a lot of close losses lately. They have a big game versus Marion County coming up this week. 13. Taylor County (3-11): The Cardinals lost a game versus a 12th region opponent, and then won versus a 5th region opponent. It’s been a bad start to the year, but a better week for the Cardinals. A lot will depend on the return of DeJhon Irvin for how good this team can be. 14. Green County (5-9): The Dragons lost to a good 4th region team, and then they lost to a 5th region opponent. Green has been struggling lately, as they have won 1 game out of their last 6. Green has a big game versus Caverna for district standings this next week. 15. Bethlehem (5-8): They lost a close road district game this week. Bethlehem has lost 4 straight games, after looking like they had turned the corner. Even though the late struggle, they can still contend in their district. 16. Nelson County (4-12): Nelson lost a road district game this week. Things have been rough lately, but they have a big game versus Thomas Nelson coming up that they will need to win. 17. Thomas Nelson (2-13): Thomas Nelson didn’t play this week. They will have a big district game versus Nelson County coming up. 18. Fort Knox (1-10): They lost two lopsided games versus two of the better 5th region teams. They do have the 5th region 1A classic coming up.
  5. Impressive, without Wright to do this to a Central Hardin team who had been playing very well.
  6. What a special night for Jobby Howard, unknown kid to most but after last night people will know the name.
  7. 1. John Hardin (13-3): John had a home blowout win, and then they lost a game in the Mustang Madness. They beat Meade County 90-62 and lost to Mayfield in the Mustang Madness 71-64. John was without Malik Wright in the loss versus Mayfield. Wright will be out another game due to an ejection. Mickey Pearson did his part like usual, as he had 33 and 12 versus Mayfield. Pearson has continued to dominate, and he looks to be the favorite for 5th region player of the year. 2. Larue County (13-1): The Hawks have a 7-game winning streak, after winning both games this week. They won two road games as they beat Campbellsville 76-66 and beat district opponent Green County 58-54. Larue continues to win, and the only hiccup they have had this year was John Hardin, at John Hardin. Shane King scored 23 vs Green County. He started off the year sluggish after playing football, but King has really played well lately. Larue will need King to make a run at a region title. 3. Elizabethtown (8-5): The Panthers beat a 5th region opponent this week, but also lost a heartbreaker to a district rival. They beat Taylor County, at Taylor County 79-56 and lost to Central Hardin 53-52. The Central loss was a disappointing loss, as any district loss is, but E-town should still be okay. Tyler Durbin had 29 points vs Taylor County, showing he is more than just a football player. Panthers have struggled lately though, as they are 2 and 4 in their last 6 games. 4. Adair County (7-6): The Indians only played one game this week, and they got a win on the road. Adair beat Barren at Barren, by the score of 78-65. A good win for Adair, as it is their best win of the year so far. Zion Harmon was great like usual vs Barren, as he had 31 points. The Freshmen phenom is one of the state leaders in points this year, at 32.2 points per game. 5. Central Hardin (10-4): What a week the Bruins had, as they got two road district wins. They beat North Hardin 53-42 and beat Elizabethtown in an upset 53-52. Bruins lost to E-town earlier this year by 20, but they came back and got a huge road win. Central Hardin had the best week of any 5th region team, and they are playing like they could be the surprise team of the 5th region. Jacob Hobbs is leading Central Hardin in points and rebounds this year. 6. North Hardin (5-10): The Trojans played two district games this week, and went 1 and 1. The Trojans lost to Central Hardin 53-42, and then they bounced back beating Fort Knox 51-33. North is a team that goes way further than their record. Out of their 10 losses, 5 of those losses were to teams who have been ranked in top 20 of state. A lot of those games have been down to the wire as well. Once North plays more 5th region games, they will have to earn some more wins to show how good they are. 7. Marion County (9-7): Marion went 1 and 1 this week. They got a win versus Sayre 74-66 and lost at Washington County 74-65. The Knights lost to Washington without big man Jamison Epps down low. Lez Means had 21 in the win versus Sayre. Means has been fantastic, and leads the Knights in scoring averaging 19.9. He has proven he is an all-region player. 8. Washington County (9-9): What a week for Washington, as they won all 3 home games this week. They beat district foe Bardstown 55-49, another district opponent Bethlehem 64-53, and beat Marion County 74-65. Washington has played well this year, but lost a lot of close games. This week should provide a lot of confidence for Washington County. Cameron Willis who just scored 1,000 points for his career, is their leading scorer this year, by averaging 18.9 points per game. 9. Bardstown (8-6): The Tigers played two district games this week, and went 1 and 1 in those contests. They lost at Washington County 55-49 and beat Nelson County at home 74-48. Since James Brewer has been at Bardstown, they are not used to losing district games. Good news for the Tigers, is that they are still 3 and 1 in district play this year. Dsamuel Butler has led the Tigers in scoring this year, with 11.7 points per game. 10. Caverna (7-8): They had a good week, as they won both games this week. They beat Bethlehem in a high scoring game 89-81, and beat district opponent Hart County 78-69 in overtime. Caverna is red hot as they have won 4 straight games. Jobby Howard had 30 versus Bethlehem. The senior guard can fill it up, as he is averaging 29.1 points per game this year, a very underrated player. 11. Green County (5-7): Green lost their only game this week, but was very competitive vs a good Larue County team. Green has lost 3 of 4. Senior Isaac Young has led Green this year, by averaging 12.4 points per game. 12. Campbellsville (7-8): The Eagles went 1 and 1 this week, including a big overtime win over their rival. They played Larue tough, who is a top 5th region team. They have been led in scoring by Nataj Sanders, who is averaging 12.2 points per game. 13. Taylor County (2-10): The Cardinals lost all three games this week, including an overtime district loss. Cardinals continue to struggle this year. Trevon Smith has led the Cardinals averaging 20.6 points per game. 14. Bethlehem (5-7): Lost both games this week, including their first district loss of the year. They are 3 and 1 in district so far. Chase Allen has led Bethlehem in scoring this year, averaging 18.9 points per game. 15. Hart County (6-8): The Raiders lost their only game this week in overtime, versus a district opponent. Hart is currently 1 and 3 in their district. John Shoulders leads Hart, by scoring 20.0 points per game. 16. Nelson County (4-11): Nelson lost both games on the road this week, including a district loss. Nelson County is currently 1-3 in their district this year. 17. Thomas Nelson (2-13): They lost both games this week. They are currently 0-4 in district play. 18. Fort Knox (1-8): Lost their only game this week, which was a road district game. Fort Knox is 0-3 in district play this year. Jonah Butts has led them by scoring 11.4 points per game.
  8. 1. John Hardin (12-2): John went 3 and 1 this week in the Lake Cumberland Holiday Hoops Classic. Started it off with a 72-70 win over Paducah Tilghman in overtime. They lost to Pulaski 82-76, beat Clay County 93-67, and beat Dupont Manuel 63-53. John played a lot of good teams, and their one loss was to a very good Pulaski County team. Mickey Pearson had a 47 and 15 game vs Clay County. He continues to show why he is a Mr. Basketball candidate. If John could get Witherspoon back, good luck to the rest of the 5th region. 2. Larue County (11-1): The Hawks continued their winning ways as they went 3 and 0 in the Magnolia Bank Holiday Classic. They beat Grayson 66-42, beat Cumberland 92-33, and beat Livingston Central 68-44. Larue dominated their competition, as their big 3 Adkins, Cox, and Goode continue to be giving teams fits, at what they do. Larue has had a great start to the season, but there are some questions about them. Larue hasn’t had a signature win yet, so we will learn how good they are very soon. 3. Elizabethtown (7-4): Panthers didn’t have the best week, as they went 1 and 2 in the City of Middletown Holiday Classic. They lost to Male 76-55, beat Russel 96-71, and lost to North Oldham 71-64. Lost to a good Male team, but losing to North Oldham was a surprise. Darius Harding had 24 in the win versus Russel. E-town has shown that they can contend in the 5th region. There biggest question mark is inside play and rebounding. 4. Adair County (6-6): The Indians went 2 and 1 this week in the Rafferty’s/ Double Dogs Caveland Classic. They beat Edmonson 66-58, they beat Franklin Simpson 80-60, and lost to Jeffersontown 83-70. The Indians had a decent week, the one toss up game they had ,they lost. They did get a 20-point game from Hunter Cundiff versus Edmonson. Harmon got hurt versus J-town, but seems to be fine going forward. The Indians have beat who they were supposed to beat, but they have yet to have a good win this year. 5. Central Hardin (8-4): Central went 2 and 1 this week in the NAS Tournament. They beat Clinton County 55-54, lost to Southern 59-55, and beat Carroll County 65-61. Central Hardin has some nice wins as they beat a solid Clinton County team. This is a team that isn’t talked about a lot for 5th region, but they have been as good as most teams this year. Any given night, you never know who will lead them in scoring. Central’s big problem is, that district is so tough. 6. North Hardin (4-9): North went 1 and 2 in the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament. They beat Sheldon Clark 75-63, they lost to Knox Central 77-65, and lost to Mercer County 62-61. North played some great teams in this tourney and was competitive in every game. North only has 4 wins, but they have lost to all good teams. Most districts, North would be a favorite, but in the 17th making region is a tough task. 7. Marion County (8-6): The Knights went 2 and 1 this week in the Nelson County Classic. They beat Caverna 89-65, beat Shelby County 61-44, and lost to Nelson County 74-61. Losing to Nelson was a big surprise. Marion has had some injuries lately, but I didn’t see that loss coming. Mason Sullivan had 16 versus Caverna. When Sullivan and Epps are playing well inside, it helps Means not have to do as much. If Marion can get healthy, they can be a top team in the 5th. 8. Bardstown (7-5): Bardstown went 3 and 0, and won the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic. They beat Lincoln 65-62 in overtime, beat Danville 63-53, and beat Campbellsville in finals 59-58. The tigers started off slow, but they have improved all year. JT Galloway led Bardstown in the finals with 17 points. This is a very balanced Bardstown team. This isn’t the normal Bardstown team when it comes to talent, but I’d still pick them in their district. 9. Taylor County (2-7): Taylor went 1 and 3 in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. They lost to Lafayette 71-31, beat Pikeville 78-56, lost to Franklin County 63-50, and lost to Elliot County 65-54. Taylor has continued to struggle, but the Pikeville win was a very good win for the Cardinals. Trevon Smith has continued to be great as he scored 36 vs Pikeville. He has been the 3rd best player in the region so far, this year. 10. Bethlehem (5-5): They went 2 and 1 in the NAS Tournament. They beat St. Francis 66-52, beat Carroll County 52-45, and lost to Southern in the championship game 59-52. This is a team that has continued to get better. Jacob Taylor had 28 and 14 versus St. Francis. With having a new coach, things are different, but this is a team to watch out for as the season continues. Improved as much as anyone in the region from the start of the year. 11. Green County (5-6): Went 1 and 2 in the Campbellsville High School Holiday Classic. Both games they lost was one possession games. Continue to be very competitive. 12. Washington County (6-9): Went 1 and 2 in the Campbellsville High School Holliday Classic. Continues to struggle in close games as they could easily have double digit wins by now. 13. Campbellsville (6-7): Went 2 and 1 in the Campbellsville High School Holliday Classic. The Eagles played well and was very close to winning the tourney. They have won 3 out of their last 4 games. 14. Hart County (6-7): Won all 3 games in the Louisville Collegiate Classic. Hart had been struggling, but they may have turned the corner after this classic. 15. Caverna (5-8): Went 2 and 1 in the Nelson County Classic. Played well in the tourney, and Jobby Howard scored at least 30 in every single game in the Classic. 16. Nelson County (4-9): Went 2 and 1 in the Nelson County Classic. Had a big win with the upset of Marion County. Nelson will try to build off that win. 17. Thomas Nelson (2-11): Went 1 and 2 in the Louisville Collegiate Classic. They have been competitive, but would like to add some more wins than what they have. 18. Fort Knox (1-7): They did not play this week. It hasn’t been a good year so far, but for a team like Fort Knox, you must try to get better as the season goes on.
  9. Any update on Witherspoon? If they could get him back I'd think that could only help John
  10. 1. John Hardin (9-1): John had a busy week, which was successful until the last game of the week, where they had their first loss of the year. John beat Larue 76-56 which was a statement win. They then played a Christmas tourney in Oldham County. They beat Grant County 84-62, beat Desales 78-59, and lost in title game to host Oldham County 88-60. Even though they lost big their last game, beating Larue County the way they did, isn’t a good sign for the rest of the 5th region. Pearson and Wright continue to be a strong 1/ 2 punch. 2. Larue County (8-1): Larue had a good week, even though they lost to region favorite John Hardin. They lost to John at John, 76-56. The Hawks bounced back as they played at Harrison County in a Classic, by winning both games. They beat St. Henry 62-51 and beat host Harrison County, 55-36. Even though they had a tough time with John, they are still a threat in the 5th region. Larue is a balanced team, who has 3 to 4 different guys who could be the guy for them that night. 3. Elizabethtown (6-2): The Panthers continue to play well, even though they lost once this week. They blew out Shawnee at Shawnee 82-47, and they lost at Spencer County 65-57. E-town couldn’t get the offense going versus Spencer, as they have been regularly scoring in the 80’s. Darius Harding continues to look like a 5th region player of the year candidate. This panther team could beat anyone in tourney time, if they are shooting well. 4. Adair County (4-5): Indians played in Orlando this week and lost both games. Adair lost to Bishop Snider (Florida) 75-73, and got blown out versus Oldsmar Christian (Florida) 87-61. Adair really blew one first game in Orlando, when they had a 22-point lead, and ended up losing on a last second dunk. Corey Melton came back from suspension and added 19 points in the second game. Adair still must prove that they are a contender in the 5th region, even if they do have Harmon. 5. Central Hardin (6-3): Central played in the Aleris Christmas Tourney in Hancock County this week, and they had a good week losing in the finals. They beat Providence (Indiana) 68-48 and beat host Hancock County 64-47. They lost in the finals to Jeffersonville (Indiana) 93-60. Central has been a pleasant surprise, as they have played good basketball all year. The problem for Central, is that they play in the best district in the region. 6. Marion County (6-5): The knights had a tough week, as they lost all three games in the Twin Lakes Classic at Clinton County. They lost to host Clinton County 71-65, lost to South Warren 76-63 and lost to South Oldham 66-61. Big man Jamison Epps had 16 and 13 versus South Warren. Marion has still had a good start to the year, but they need to rebound after this three-game losing streak. The positive is both Taylor and Adair have struggled to start the year, so making region is very realistic for Marion. 7. Bardstown (4-5): The Tigers went 1 and 2 this week. They beat Washington in a district matchup 68-67. They then played two games at Spencer County in the Hoops for Hope Classic, they lost to Iroquois 67-59, and lost to host Spencer County 76-51. This isn’t the Bardstown teams of the past, but expect them to improve a lot throughout the year. They still are the district favorite, as well. 8. Taylor County (1-4): The Cardinals didn’t play this week. With Taylor struggling early, practice could be a good thing for them. Taylor still must find a legit second option after Trevon Smith. Good news for Taylor is, there last game was Oldham County, and Oldham County killed John Hardin. Playing so competitive with Oldham County may be the confidence that Taylor needed. 9. North Hardin (3-7): North had a good week as they went 2 and 1 in the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic. They beat Edmonson County 54-45, they beat host team Warren East 71-62, and lost to Butler 36-29. North has been playing their best ball lately. Even though it was a loss, how close they played John Hardin is still very impressive. I have a feeling teams don’t want to see North tourney time, as they have been competitive with some good teams. 10. Green County (4-4): The Dragons didn’t play this week. Green started off rough, due to a tough schedule, but has played well lately. This is a young team, with only one senior on the roster, so expect them to get better throughout the year. Green is in a district where they can make the region if they continue to improve. 11. Washington County (5-7): Lost two heartbreakers this week, both by one point. Washington has lost their last 3 games, by an amazing 1 point each time. Washington continues to struggle in close games. 12. Bethlehem (3-4): Short week, as they only played one game, and lost to a good Glasgow team. Bethlehem, who has a new coach this year, started off sluggish, however Bethlehem has looked like a different team as of late. 13. Campbellsville (4-6): Had a successful week as they went 2 and 1 in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic. This team has shown they can be a very solid team, but consistency is the issue with the Eagles. 14. Caverna (3-7): Caverna went 1 and 2 in the Union County Holiday Tournament. They have struggled lately, as they have played some better competition. 15. Hart County (3-6): Hart lost all three games in the Cecilian Bank Tournament. The raiders have lost 4 straight games, after a very good start to the season. 16. Nelson County (2-8): Lost both games this week. New coach, and a lot of new players playing, so it will be a process for Nelson County this year. 17. Fort Knox (1-7): They lost all three games in the Cecilian Bank Tournament. Rough year so far, but there is a long way to go in the season. 18. Thomas Nelson (1-9): Didn’t play this week. They are hoping the week of practice will help, going forward.
  11. 1. John Hardin (6-0): John continued its winning ways, by winning both district games this week. They blew out Central Hardin 93-69, and beat North Hardin at North in their first close game of the year, 55-51. John has shown they are the class of the 5th region, so far this year. Pearson and Wright have been great, but Alex Matthews has been a pleasant surprise, as he had 20 and 15 vs Central. He has provided great rebounding for John for an already big team. 2. Larue County (6-0): Larue, like John, is still undefeated this year, and they blew out two teams this week. They beat Edmonson at Edmonson 68-41, and beat Caverna 74-49. Larue has taken care of business so far versus lesser teams, and we will find out soon, just how good Larue is. Shane King who hasn’t had a big year so far, did have 16 vs Caverna. If they can get King to play like that with their bigs, they will be very dangerous. 3. Elizabethtown (5-1): The panthers continue to show they are a top team in the 5th this year. They beat Desales at Desales in a shootout 87-83. Then they got a statement win at Adair County 83-71. Minus the Bowling Green game, this is a team that has scored at least 80 points in every game. They have gotten great play from Seniors Tyler Durbin, and Darius Harding. That’s what is expected, but freshman Jaquais Franklin has made a name for himself. He scored 18 vs Desales, and 22 vs Adair. 4. Adair County (4-3): The Indians have continued to beat the teams they are supposed to beat, but still lack a signature win. They beat Campbellsville 80-38 and lost to E-town 83-71. Harmon continues to be excellent, but the defense has continued to be a problem for Adair. Dre Boyd has had some big games, and had 17 and 7 vs Campbellsville. Adair will have to get better play from the supporting cast if they want to contend for region. 5. Central Hardin (4-2): The bruins only played one game this week, and that was vs the region favorite. They lost at John Hardin 93-69. Central has lost two games this year, but it has been vs two good teams in E-town and John Hardin. The problem for Central is, they play in the best district in the region. Jacob Hobbs, like expected, has been good inside for Central by leading them in rebounds this year. 6. Marion County (6-2): Marion continues to impress, as they won 4 games in a busy week. They won at Thomas Nelson 80-54, and won at Green County 61-48. They blew out Cumberland at Cumberland, 90-48 and ended the week beating district opponent Campbellsville 75-67. The knights have won 5 straight and are gaining more confidence every game. Tyshay Epps has had a breakout week, and if he can keep up the good play, Marion could be a dangerous team in the 5th. 7. Bardstown (3-3): The tigers continued their hot play as they won their only game of the week. They beat district opponent Thomas Nelson 71-30. They started off 0 and 3, but Bardstown is now riding a 3-game winning streak. Dsamuel Butler has led Bardstown, as he has shot a tremendous 50 percent from the 3-point line this year. It looked like a rebuilding year for Bardstown, but they are still the team to beat in the 19th district. 8. Taylor County (1-4): Lost both games this week, but there is a positive after the last game of the week. They lost at Bullitt East 85-68, and then lost to 8th region favorite Oldham County 66-59. Been a disappointing season so far, but Taylor could gain some confidence after such a competitive game vs a very good Oldham County team. Trevon Smith has done his part this year, as he had 40 and 9 vs Bullitt East. 9. Green County (4-4): After playing such a tough schedule to start out, the dragons have started to play a lot better basketball. Green lost to Marion 61-48, and they beat Campbellsville at Campbellsville 67-59, they beat Thomas Nelson at Thomas Nelson 57-48. This is a team that will play very hard every night, and it doesn’t matter who they are playing. They got a big game from Brody Bush vs Marion, as he led them by scoring 17 points. 10. North Hardin (1-6): North lost both games this week, but really impressed when they played two good teams, and lost close both games. They lost at Boyle County 63-56 and lost to region favorite John Hardin 55-51. They gave John the best game anybody has given them all year. The record hasn’t been good, but they have played the top 2 teams in the 5th and both games have gone down to the wire. 11. Washington County (5-5): Washington won one district game and lost one district game this week. They continued to struggle in close games, as all 5 losses have been by less than 5 points. Washington still has a great shot to make it out of the district this year. 12. Campbellsville (2-5): Rough week for the eagles as they lost all three games, including two district games. After the big Taylor County win, they have lost 4 straight. 13. Hart County (3-3): Hart hasn’t been bad so far, but haven’t made the jump that I expected. The positive for Hart is, after Larue in their district, the district is very wide open. 14. Bethlehem (3-3): They have started to play better as the season is going on. They got a nice win beating district opponent Washington County. Making region could happen, if they continue to get better. 15. Caverna (2-5): Things haven’t been going well for Caverna. They started off 2 and 0, and have lost five straight games. If Caverna could get a win soon, that could turn things around. 16. Nelson County (2-6): Tough week for Nelson, but they did pick up one win this week. New coach, and a lot of new players, so this will be a process for Nelson County. 17. Fort Knox (1-4): Played one game this week, and got their first win of the season. Fort Knox will be hoping to build off that win for the rest of the season. 18. Thomas Nelson (1-9): Rough week, as they lose all four games this week. On the positive side, they have been competitive in a lot of games this year.
  12. 1. John Hardin (4-0): John Hardin got 3 lopsided wins this week. They beat Fort Knox on the road 98 to 42, beat Breckinridge county 80 to 55, and beat Dupont Manual 83 to 59 at Bardstown. Mickey Pearson has continued his strong play, by leading them in scoring this week. Once John gets Witherspoon back, good luck to the rest of the region. 2. Larue County (4-0): Larue has moved up in the rankings after going 3 and 0 this week. They beat North Hardin 43 to 37, beat Hart County 72 to 37, and beat Muhlenberg county 67 to 50. Dailliss Cox and Anthony Adkins both had a big week for Larue, as they continue to show that they are 5th region contenders. 3. Elizabethtown (3-1): The panthers moved up a spot this week in the rankings despite going 1 and 1. They lost to Bowling Green 67 to 46, but bounced back in a big way, with a blowout win over district opponent Central Hardin on the road, by the score of 84 to 64. Darius Harding went off for 36 vs Central Hardin in their first district game of the year. 4. Adair County (3-2): Adair fell two spots in the rankings this week. They beat District opponent Marion County 88 to 77. They then lost big in a much-anticipated game vs Mercer County 73 to 47. Zion Harmon continues to live up to the hype, and Adair is without senior Corey Melton due to suspension. Indians were embarrassed vs Mercer, so will be interesting to see how they respond. 5. Central Hardin (4-1): The Bruins went 2 and 1 this week. They beat Grayson 56 to 54, lost to E-town 84 to 64, and beat Franklin Simpson at South Warren by the score of 69 to 61. Central Hardin continues to be a very balanced team when it comes to scoring. 6. Marion County (2-2): The knights moved up one spot in the rankings as they went 1 and 1 this week. They lost a very competitive game at Adair 88 to 77. They then bounced back with a big win at Bardstown, over Bethlehem, 87 to 51. Marion has been a pleasant surprise so far. 7. Bardstown (2-3): The tigers moved up one spot as they went 2 and 1 this week. They lost at Desales 60 to 46, they beat North Oldham 54 to 52, and beat Bullitt Central 57 to 56. If the tigers continue to improve, they could win another district title. 8. Washington County (4-4): They have moved up two spots in the rankings, as they went 1 and 2 this week. They lost to Bullitt Central 59 to 56, lost at Garrard County 66 to 69, they then bounced back and beat Thomas Nelson 73 to 55. Washington has lost 4 games, but all 4 games they lost by less than 5 points. 9. Campbellsville (2-2): The eagles moved up three spots this week after having a big program win. The Eagles upset Taylor County at Taylor, 58 to 56 to start off the week. They then lost at Meade County 72 to 56. The eagles hope the Taylor County win will give this team a lot of confidence going forward this season. 10. Taylor County (1-2): Taylor moved four spots down this week in the rankings, after the loss to rival Campbellsville 56 to 54. The team right now is really struggling, but if they get Irvin back, that could change everything. 11. North Hardin (1-4): North lost both games this week. The schedule has been brutal so far. 12. Green County (2-3): Green had a good week as they went 2 and 1. They have won their last two games. 13. Caverna (2-3): They dropped two spots, as they had a disappointing week. They lost all three games this week, but Caverna was in every single game. 14. Hart County (2-3): Hart went 1 and 1 this week, as they had a good district win, but got blown out and was never competitive vs Larue. 15. Bethlehem (2-3): Had a good week as they won two out of three games this week, and won two 5th region games. 16. Nelson County (1-4): Lost both games this week, but lost a thriller to Bethlehem in double overtime. 17. Thomas Nelson (1-5): Went 1 and 2 this week, but Thomas Nelson did end the week with picking up their first win of the year. 18. Fort Knox (0-4): Only played one game this week, and lost to the region favorite. They are still looking for that first win.
  13. Not sure if anyone knows but Taylor needs him back asap.
  14. Without Irvin Taylor is average on its best day . It's amazing how important Irvin is to this team.
  15. 7 Owensboro Catholic 5 Calloway County 3 Barren County 2 Adair County 1 Lyon County TB- Adair County
  16. Is there a update on the status of Irvin?
  17. 1. John Hardin (1-0): John opened the season Saturday with a lopsided victory at Shelby County 88 to 51. Pearson started his Mr. Basketball campaign with a 38 and 10 night. Bulldogs showed why they are the region favorites. They are without a major contributor in Witherspoon, who is suspended. 2. Adair County (2-1): Indians took care of business vs Cumberland and at Green County. They beat Cumberland 87 to 48 and Green County 85 to 65. Indians then took on nationally ranked Olive Branch, Saturday, at the Marshall County Hoop fest, where they lost 91 to 76. Harmon has been as good as advertised, as he has averaged 37 points per game in the first week of the season. 3. Larue County (1-0): Larue opened the season up Saturday with a home win vs East Jessamine 65 to 53. Goode is off to a good start for the season as he led the Hawks with 23 points. 4. Elizabethtown (2-0): The panthers have been very impressive to start off the season. They beat Marion 80 to 63 and beat one of the top 4th region teams Monroe County, 81 to 77 at Campbellsville. Harding and Durbin had 16 and 17 points in the game vs Marion. 5. Central Hardin (2-0): The bruins have had a great start to the season. They beat Nelson County at Nelson, 62-25, and they also beat a very good Southwestern team 58 to 51. The win over Southwestern at home was the best win in the 5th region this first week. 6. Taylor County (1-1): The Cardinals have struggled to start off the year. They escaped Washington County with a 74 to 73 win, and lost at Spencer County 72 to 52. The Cardinals have been without Irvin who has an injury. Trevon Smith had 42 the first night, and his brother Kybrin Smith led Taylor with 21 vs Spencer. 7. Marion County (1-1): The knights started off the season with an upset victory over Bardstown, 94 to 86 in overtime. They lost at Elizabethtown 80 to 63. Lez Means had an amazing 45, vs Bardstown. 8. Bardstown (0-2): The tigers lost a close one at Marion County 94 to 86 in overtime. They lost to North Bullitt 54 to 40 at home. The tigers are young and will likely improve as the season continues. 9. North Hardin (1-2): The trojans opened the season up vs Oldham County with a 64 to 48 loss. They beat Fort Knox on the road and loss to Paducah Tilghman at Campbellsville 79 to 47. Like Bardstown, expect them to improve a lot through the year. 10. Washington County (3-2): Washington had a busy week as they played 5 games. Lost the first two, at Model 74 to 70, and at home to Taylor 74 to 73. They have won 3 in a row in a tipoff classic in Berea. They beat White Academy TN 81 to 41, beat Dayton 62 to 26, and beat Lee County 73 to 21. 11. Caverna (2-0): Started off the year by winning two 5th region games. Been a pleasant surprise so far. 12. Green County (0-2): Green is 0 and 2, but played two region contenders to open the season. The schedule will only get easier. 13. Campbellsville (1-1): The eagles took a bad opening loss, but recovered with a nice win over Hart. 14. Hart County (1-2): The raiders started off hot, but have lost two straight. 15. Bethlehem (0-2): It has been a rough start so far, as they started off the year losing both games big. 16. Nelson County (1-2): Started the year with a blowout loss, but recovered and did get a win this week. 17. Thomas Nelson (0-3): Had a rough first week as they lost all three games in blowouts. 18. Fort Knox (0-3): First two losses were blowouts, but the third game was much more competitive.
  18. Irvin Taylors point guard broke his arm and hasn't played this year as well from what I have heard.
  19. Yes Melton got ejected in this one.
  20. Marshall County Hoop-fest Saturday. Play Olive Branch and that could get ugly.
