My predictions were 7 for 7. There wasn't much parody in this tournament. I will go ahead and say that next year is my Lady Colonels year. Christian County will win the region next year.

I couldn't disagree more with the elimination of the district runner-up. That would water down the region tournaments. Every region has a district that is much stronger than the others. My home district is the 8th district (Christian County, Hopkinsville, University Heights, Fort Campbell). With your solution a top 10 team in the state would not make the region tournament on the boys side this year. The Bowling Green and Owensboro districts are other great examples. Most years the top 2-3 teams in the region are in those districts.

Power Rankings 1. Henderson County (24-5, 9-1) Despite losing to Webster County in the 6th District championship game, the Lady Colonels are still the team to beat in this tournament. They have the best player in the region in Alisha Owens and they surround her with outstanding shooters. It will take a special game plan and a special performance, much like Webster County was able to do, to beat this team. 2. Webster County (19-12, 12-3) The Lady Trojans pulled off one of the biggest upsets in postseason play so far in the state. It was the 1st time they have won a district championship in 18 years. Despite losing to Hopkinsville in the 1st game of the season, this is the team with the best chance of ending Henderson County's 2nd region dominance. Nearly every player on their roster can hurt you if you give them an open shot, and there may not be a more deadly shooter in the region than Karlie Keeney. 3. Hopkinsville (22-8, 14-2) You can't coach size and that is exactly what the Lady Tigers have. Size and a lot of it. Not only are they long but they have some quick guards to go with all of that size. And, in case you have forgotten, they also have dynamic scorer Janiya Davis that can hurt you in so many ways. The Lady Tigers put up a good fight against Henderson County in a close loss so you know they can give them a game. The question remains whether or not they can win 3 big games in a row, including an upset over region power Henderson County. But now is as good of a time as any, since the Lady Tigers reclaimed their city after winning the 8th District championship. 4. Christian County (16-13, 9-4) The Lady Colonels have struggled since they beat Hopkinsville in their 2nd district matchup. Their only wins since then have been a pair of wins over winless Fort Campbell. However, it cannot be ignored that they have the tools to knock off anyone in the region. Trinitee Jackson is living up to her potential and has been an impossible matchup for opponents as of late. Their guard combo of Aaliyah Hampton and Laderia Gold is one of the best backcourts in the region. Don't expect another early exit for the Lady Colonels. 5. Crittenden County (25-7, 17-4) What a season the Lady Rockets have had. I, for one, did not see this coming. 25 wins, 5th District champions, 2nd Region All-A champions and an All-A state tournament quarterfinals apperance was more than anyone expected. Cassidy Moss has continued giving opposing defenses headaches and her supporting cast is greatly improved from a year ago. 6. Madisonville-North Hopkins (18-12, 10-5) The Lady Maroons are the best rebounding team in the region. Thanks in large part to their post combo of Molly Stone, the 2nd leading rebounder in the state, and Kalveona Pepper. Their backcourt and depth continue to trouble the Lady Maroons, but when you can control the boards the way they do you will always have a chance. 7. Lyon County (19-10, 15-9) The Lady Lyons are another team that has surpassed expectations. Not many expected Lyon County to win 19 games and challenge for the 5th District. Allison Murphy has filled the shoes of Melanie PPoole and Rebecca Somers nicely. The Lady Lyons pride themselves on outstanding defense and patiently waiting for good shots on offense. Their low final scores should tell you that they can effectively control the tempo of a game. Control of the tempo could lead to some upsets. 8. Hopkins County Central (11-19, 7-11) I am not surprised to see the Lady Storm in the 2nd region tournament, but I am shocked to see them here as a district champion. Their win over Madisonville-North Hopkins may have been the upset everyone was talking about if Webster County had not just beaten Henderson County the night before. The 7th District championship was their 1st in 11 years. My Predictions 2/27 6:00 PM Webster County vs. Lyon County These 2 teams played just a few weeks ago in a game that saw Webster County win by a score of 43-28. Even though the Lady Trojans came away with the victory, Lyon County was effective in taking away Karlie Keeney as she finished with just 1 point. Plagued by either poor shooting or outstanding Lady Trojan defense, the Lady Lyons only managed to make 21% of their shots and 13% from outside. I expect a better shooting night from the Lady Lyons but the result will be the same. Webster County by 10 points. 2/27 7:40 PM Hopkins County Central vs. Christian County These 2 met back on December 1st in game that Christian County won 56-44. I was there to watch my Lady Colonels and this one was a lot closer than than the score says. The Lady Storm lead a good portion of the game, but Trinitee Jackson and company were just too much for the Lady Storm. I expect another great game, especially since the Lady Storm are hot right now and the Lady Colonels are still recovering from the Hoptown loss. Christian County by 3 points. 2/28 6:00 PM Hopkinsville vs. Madisonville-North Hopkins The Lady Tigers won their regular season matchup 59-51 on January 3rd. Janiya Davis lead the way with 23 points and 7 rebounds, while Brynin Carver got hot from outside for Madisonville with 5 treys. This just feels like a bad matchup for the Lady Maroons. The size of the Lady Tigers neutralizes the strengths of the Lady Maroons. This game will come down to guard play. Hopkinsville by 10 points. 2/28 7:40 PM Crittenden County vs. Henderson County When Webster County upset Henderson County, every district champion celebrated Thursday night only to cringe Saturday morning when they waited to see if they would draw Henderson County on the bracket. Crittenden County's reward for an outstanding season was a opening round game against the best district runner-up in the state. These 2 did not play in the regular season but most already know what the outcome will be. Henderson County by 20 points. 3/3 6:00 PM Semifinals A rematch from Valentine's Day: Christian County vs. Webster County. The Lady Trojans won the 1st matchup 63-56 in the middle of their current winning streak. I expect a similar result in this one. Webster County by 6 points. 3/3 7:40 PM Semifinals A Hopkinsville/Henderson County rematch that could play spoiler to Henderson County's quest for yet another 2nd Region championship. Henderson County won 57-49 when they met in January. While I think Hopkinsville has the roster to be in contention for the upset, I don't think it will happen. Losing the 6th District championship will have the Lady Colonels focused and determined to get another shot at Webster County. Henderson County by 15 points. 3/4 7:00 PM Championship I expect a rematch of the 6th District championship game for the 3rd consecutive year. Last year, Webster County let one get away in the final seconds. But they were playing the role of underdog. They come into this game as an equal since they were the preason favorites by many and are fresh off the upset to win the 6th District championship. I'm afraid, however, that Webster may have won the battle but they will lose the war. Henderson County by 8 points.

I'm with cols here. Henderson County only has 3 region losses - Hopkinsville, Christian County and University Heights. Hopkins Central doesn't even play any of the top 3 teams in the region. They also lost to Caldwell County and Madisonville-North Hopkins earlier this season. Henderson County is the clear choice for #4.

I agree. UHA should be #3 in the rankings. I think too much credit is being given to overall record which can be misleading. Like westernky said all of their losses have been out of region except for County and Hoptown. It looks like they are ranked #6 only because they are 7-10 and not because of what they have done in region. What quality wins does Hopkins Central and Madisonville-North Hopkins have that warrant them being ranked ahead of UHA?

Ranking Team (Overall Record; Region Record) 1. SAME Henderson County (10-1; 0-0) The Lady Colonels will face their first region opponent on Tuesday when they host district rival #4 Webster County. Judging only from their performance against out of region foes, Henderson County looks again to be the team to beat in the 2nd region. 2. SAME Hopkinsville (13-4; 6-0) The Lady Tigers remain undefeated in region play and their only losses out of region have been to teams that are title contenders in their respective region. Circle January 13th (at #3 Christian County) and January 24th (#1 Henderson County) on your calendars for a couple of can't miss games. 3. UP 1 Christian County (9-4; 3-0) The Lady Colonels are still undefeated in region play but they have played most of their games out of region. They have been playing some good basketball lately with their big 3 of Jackson, Hampton and Gold leading the way. 4. DOWN 1 Webster County (7-10; 3-1) Don't let the overall record fool you. Webster County is still a contender for the region championship. The Lady Trojans have played a tough out of region schedule and their lone region loss was to #2 Hopkinsville by a narrow margin in the season's 1st game. 5. SAME Madisonville-North Hopkins (7-6; 4-2) The Lady Maroons have been living and dying by their post combo inside. Stone and Pepper have been matchup nightmares for opposing teams. If their guard play improves, they could move in to the discussion with the top 4 teams. For now, they are firmly placed at #5. 6. UP 1 Crittenden County (11-3; 6-1) The Lady Rockets have been impressive so far and no one in the region is playing better than Cassidy Moss. Despite the early season loss to #9 Lyon County, the Lady Rockets still look to be the favorite in the 5th district. 7. SAME Caldwell County (10-4; 6-3) The youth movement from last season appears to be paying off for Caldwell County. The still young Lady Tigers have played some competive games with #3 Christian County and #6 Crittenden County, but the lopsided loss yesterday to #11 Union County is a bit of a headscratcher. 8. DOWN 1 University Heights (7-7; 3-3) The return of Anshanique Leavell with the consistency of Jordon Hornbuckle has made the Lady Blazers competitive again but they still have a way to go to even consider knocking off #2 Hopkinsville or #3 Christian County. 9. DOWN 2 Lyon County (8-3; 5-2) The Lady Lyons have been very consistent in this rebuilding year. Their 3 losses have all been by single digits. Allison Murphy and Hannah Holloman have stepped up nicely after the loss of last year's strong senior class. They won their 1st matchup with district rival #6 Crittenden County so the rematch will be a good one to watch. 10. DOWN 4 Hopkins County Central (4-11; 2-5) The Lady Storm are simply not playing good basketball right now. They have lost 8 of the last 9 games in this current skid. If they don't bounce back against #7 Caldwell County in their next game, it could be good bye to their hopes of returning to region. 11. SAME Union County (4-11; 2-5) The Bravettes have been struggling to find a rhythm this season, but they may have found new life after their 19 point victory over #7 Caldwell County. Tuesday's game against #12 Livingston Central should be a closely contested one. 12. SAME Livingston Central (4-10; 2-5) At the beginning of the season, I had the 5th district as a toss-up between Livingston Central, Crittenden and Lyon. It has been a disappointing year for the Lady Cardinals as the Jim Parks era is not off to a good start. Tuesday's game against #11 Union County is a winnable one that could help get them back on track before defending their Class A region title. 13. SAME Dawson Springs (4-6; 2-5) The Lady Panthers are exceeding expectations this season but are still just the best of the cellar dwellers at this point. Their only 2 region wins have been over #14 Trigg County and #15 Fort Campbell. 14. SAME Trigg County (4-8; 1-6) The Lady Cats have fallen on some hard times the past few years and this season has been no different. Their lone region win was over #15 Fort Campbell. 15. SAME Fort Campbell (0-9; 0-7) The Lady Falcons have lost by an average margin of 30 points with only 1 single digit loss all season (West Creek, TN). I was only able to watch some games Thursday night and yesterday. Muhlenberg County won the tournament and looked very good. They could be a dark horse for the 3rd region. Gleason, from Tennessee, had to come from behind to make it a game toward the end in the championship. Christian County played 2 of the best games I have seen them play so far. They won the 3rd place game. This team is starting to gel and I can't wait for the first County/Hoptown game.

I plan on making the trip to watch the Christian County Lady Colonels play. It looks like a field of good teams this year. I will post game updates when I get home each day. 2

Rank Team (Overall Record; Region Record) 1. Henderson County (6-1; 0-0) No one has played a tougher schedule than the Lady Colonels. They have claimed victories over state powers Bullitt East and Campbell County, and their lone loss came at the hands of Mater Dei (Evansville, IN). Alisha Owens is playing at a high level and they have found some shooters to surround her with. It didn't take long for Henderson County to remind everyone how dominant they can be. 2. Hopkinsville (6-2; 5-0) Their size will give you nightmares and makes for a tough night on offense. They are undefeated in region play, including a win over preseason favorite Webster County. The only losses on their record have came from state champion contender Murray and 1st region power Graves County. They look to be the most likely candidate to take down current favorite Henderson County. 3. Webster County (3-3; 1-1) The Lady Trojans dropped a tough one in the season opener to #2 Hopkinsville on the road. You may be able to credit their early season struggles to adjusting to a new coach (their 3rd in 4 years). I wouldn't panic just yet. Webster County is notorious for playing their best basketball at the end of the season. They still have plenty of time to work out the kinks before they face #1 Henderson County on January 10th. 4. Christian County (4-3; 3-0) The Lady Colonels have shown they are a contender with convincing wins over #5 Madisonville-North Hopkins and #6 Hopkins County Central, and their 3 losses have came at the hands of some really good teams. The once young team with potential is coming to fruition and expect fireworks on January 13th when they face #2 Hopkinsville. 5. Madisonville-North Hopkins (5-2; 3-1) The Lady Maroons may have the best post combo in the region with Molly Stone and Kalveonna Pepper. However, guard play and bench depth may be backbreaking in the postseason. They defended their home court against #6 Hopkins County Central earlier this week to show they are still the team to beat in the 7th district. Their lone region loss was to Christian County in a game that was much more lopsided than the final score looks. 6. Hopkins County Central (3-3; 2-3) We have heard this song before. The Lady Storm are stumbling out of the gate and hoping to turn it around before tournament time. All 3 losses have been in region play: #2 Hopkinsville, #4 Christian County and #5 Madisonville-North Hopkins. 7. 4 Way Tie (too close to call this early in the season) Caldwell County (5-3; 4-2) Crittenden County (6-1; 4-1) Lyon County (5-2; 4-2) University Heights (5-3; 3-2) Any one of these teams could beat the other on any given night. We've already seen Caldwell County take down Lyon County and University Heights but lose a close one to Crittenden County. Crittenden County has beat Caldwell County but lost in convincing fashion to Lyon County. Lyon County ran away with the game against Crittenden County but lost to both Caldwell County and University Heights. University Heights beat Lyon County but couldn't prevail over Caldwell County. It is evident that the 5th district will come down to Crittenden County and Lyon County, and Caldwell County may challenge Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County Central for a seat at the region table. Unfortunately, it looks like University Heights will be the team in this group on the outside looking in, as they most likely will not be able to contend with Hopkinsville or Christian County. 11. Union County (3-5; 1-3) The Bill Price era is off to a slow start with a team that is facing another rebuilding year. Their lone region win is an 11 point victory over #13 Dawson Springs. 12. Livingston Central (2-6; 1-4) There may not be a team with a more disappointing start than the Lady Cardinals. They returned everyone from a year ago and looked to be in the driver's seat in the 5th district. They barely escaped #14 Trigg County with a 1 point win. 13. Dawson Springs (3-6; 2-5) The Lady Panthers are surprisingly playing some decent basketball, capturing region wins over #14 Trigg County in overtime and #15 Fort Campbell in convincing fashion. 14. Trigg County (1-7; 1-5) It looks to be another long year in Cadiz. The Lady Cats got their only win of the season this week against #15 Fort Campbell. 15. Fort Campbell (0-7; 0-5) Going into last night, it looked like the only team that Fort Campbell could compete with and potentially get a win would be #14 Trigg County. Christian County girls haven't played well either. They lost to a weak Muhlenburg County team by 1 and trailed most of the game against Hopkins County Central. I also heard that Hopkinsville also trailed most of the game against a weak Logan County team. This could be the year where the team with the best draw takes the region.

This will be the second year in a row that Henderson County enters the season as an underdog. The question is will they play spoiler again? One could argue that the region belongs to them until someone dethrones them. However it is hard to argue with this season's favorite since they have proved they have what it takes to make the region finals, nearly walking away with the championship last season. Preseason Team Rankings Rank Team (Last Season Overall Record; Last Season Region Record; Postseason Finish) 1. Webster County (22-10; 11-6; Region Runner-Up) The Lady Trojans lose only one senior from the team that was just one point shy of upsetting powerhouse Henderson County to earn a trip to NKU. Even thought they lose sharpshooting forward Hallie Gibson, they get back floor general Kelsey Payne (ACL injury in January). If Payne is 100% healthy it will be tough for anyone to take down the Lady Trojans in March. Her return allows the team's two best scorers, Kaylee Duncan and Karlie Keeney, to move back to their natural positions. The wildcard will be the team chemistry with new head coach Brandon Fisher. 2. Henderson County (18-10; 9-2; Region Champion) The Lady Colonels from up north lose some size and leadership with the departures of power forward Mikayla Gilbert, point guard Samantha Carter and role player Michaela Polivick. However, Coach Haile can rest easy knowing that he still has one of the best centers in the state in Alisha Owens. Last season's injury woes for Samantha Carter could be beneficial this season since guards Breanna Chester and Jalee Carter got valuable experience directing the offense. Not to mention they also return the team's best shooter Emma Lander. There's no doubt that a school the size of Henderson County also has some young talent waiting in the wings. Don't expect the Lady Colonels to fall much at all. 3A. Christian County (12-16; 7-7; Region Quarterfinals) The Lady Colonels from the south only lose one player from last season (Amari Brodie transferred to Hopkinsville) but add some new faces that came out for new coach KiKi Radford. The sophomore and junior class is very deep and gained valuable varsity experience last season. Shooting guard Aaliyah Hampton has established herself as one of the region's best scorers and point guard Laderia Gold has been a consistent contributor from her starting position the past two seasons. The player that may decide whether or not Christian County contends for region championship is 6-3 center Trinity Jackson. 3B. Hopkinsville (20-11; 15-3; Region Quarterfinals) The Lady Tigers lost one of the best rebounders in the state (Farisia Hodge) and must replace their starting point guard JaEricka Grubbs, as well as several other role players. Coach Babb does return one of the best players in the region with forward Janiya Davis and still has the biggest lineup in the region. Surrounding Davis will be several athletic guards and a lot of size inside, starting with 6-3 center Zakyra Stallworth. Hopkinsville also adds a transfer (Amari Brodie) that is a good wing defender. The biggest question mark will be the same as it was last season - will this team have chemistry with so many new faces in the lineup? 5A. Madisonville-North Hopkins (23-5; 13-2; Region Semifinals) Gone are region MVP Adarian Gray and fellow graduates Shaniya Whitsell, Shyia Foster and T'Aliyah Sherman from a team that looked poised to dethrone Henderson County last season. Back for the Lady Maroons is 6-0 All-Region center Molly Stone and returning starters Irelane Enoch and Jayda Civils. They also get back a key piece from their team two years ago with the return of 6-0 center Kalveona Pepper who spent last season playing high school basketball in Arkansas and AAU for Hopkinsville's Kentucky Heat. The Lady Maroons have maybe the best post game in the region but the question will be guard play, depth and how they respond to new head coach Jeff Duvall. 5B. Hopkins County Central (18-15; 12-7; Region Semifinals) The Lady Storm lose one of the best backcourts in the region from last season with the graduation of point guard Lyric Campbell and shooting guard MaKayla Campbell, in addition to losing forward Keyasia Combs. They do return forward Talana Hardy and guards Nykea Ikeard and Rickara Hughes. Coach Todd Webb may find comfort in his uptempo style of play which allowed the Lady Storm to play 10 or more players each game. Some of those role players from last season will have to step up if they expect to region a top tier team in the region. 7. Crittenden County (15-16; 12-12; Region Quarterfinals) Coach Shannon Hodge has been a constant on the Crittenden County sidelines for many years and this season she will have the comfort of returning her entire team from a year ago. Cassidy Moss has been a consistent scorer for the Lady Rockets the past two seasons and, if her supporting cast benefits from a year of varsity experience, we should see Crittenden reclaim their district from Lyon County. 8. Livingston Central (13-14; 7-9; District Tournament) New head coach Jim Parks inherits a team that loses no seniors to graduation from a year ago and looks to be in the middle of a 3 team war for the district crown. Back for the Lady Cardinals is All-Region forward Tabby Padon and shooting guard Kalynn Campbell. If the defending "All A" region champions build on last season's success, they could pose the biggest threat to Crittenden County. 9. Lyon County (22-8; 18-5; Region Quarterfinals) The Lady Lyons must figure out how to replace their heart and soul from last season (Melanie PPool and Rebecaa Somers) but you can't count a Jeff Doom coached team out of the district race. Top returning player Allison Murphy will turn to senior Terrianna Johnson and a slew of young players for help. This season's success will most likely depend on the contributions from last year's role players and this year's new faces on the roster. 10. Caldwell County (6-23; 6-14; District Tournament) The Lady Tigers got better as the season went on and showed some promise in their young players from a year ago. Coach Malissa Thomas will need her young team to progress quickly if they hope to contend with Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County Central for the district. Expect the Lady Tigers to continue improving and be a tougher out than they were a year ago. 11. University Heights (6-19; 4-9; District Tournament) Coach Taylor Sparks will have to replace his most versatile scorer (Makenzi Hamby) but returns hard-working overachiever Jordon Hornbuckle who is more like a coach on the floor. The Lady Blazers are also rumored to have scorer Anshanique Leavell back on the team which can greatly improve their chances of competing with other teams in the region. It will be a tall order however if they hope to unseat Christian County and Hopkinsville. 12. Union County (11-18; 5-9; District Tournament) Gone are leading scorer Randi Conway, leading rebounder Devisha Williams and head coach Shane Smith (new boys head coach at Union County). Returning for the Bravettes will be undersized sharpshooter Victoria French, who produces at a high volume despite her small size, and point Kiara Campbell. How successful the Bravettes will be this season will heavily depend on the health of Kiara Campbell (returning from ACL) and how they respond to new head coach Bill Price. Expect them to be competitive but it would be hard to imagine them upsetting the top two teams in the region within their district. 13. Trigg County (11-15; 2-12; District Tournament) The Lady Cats only won 2 games last season in a rebuilding effort that will continue this season under new head coach Cory Coble. They will have to replace leading scorer JaKashea Martin and Taylor Gray but do return Lauren Oliver to lead the rebuilding effort. 14. Dawson Springs (11-17; 3-15; District Tournament) Coach Amanda Scott lead the Lady Panthers to one of their best seasons in recent memory but the loss of some key seniors will hinder their ascension up the rankings. 15. Fort Campbell (3-22; 1-13; District Tournament) Unfortunately my preview for Coach Arnika Brown's team remains a mystery. Lyon County lost 2 really good players in Somers and PPoole but still return Allison Murphy and Terrianna Johnson from last year's 5th district champions. I still expect the Lady Lyons to compete for the district championship but they might not be as big of a threat in the region as they have been the past few seasons.

The Lady Maroons lost a large and productive senior class that included 2nd region MVP Adarian Gray. They have one of the state's best rebounders in Molly Stone and return 2 other key contributors Jayda Civils and Irelane Enoch. The rest of the team lacks varsity experience but the Lady Maroons always seem to reload enough to be competitive in the region. I expect Coach Gibson's squad to be just outside the top tier teams this year.

This should be the year that Livingston Central returns to the region tournament. They return their entire team from a year ago including stars Tabby Padon and Kalynn Campbell. They may come out on top in a competitive 3-way race for the 5th district crown.

Whether he reclassifed or not he can't play 2 more years at a KHSAA school. You have 4 years to play 4 years once you start high school. Period.

They lose one of the fastest players in the state in Lyric Campbell and one of the best shooters in the state Makayla Campbell. The Lady Storm still return one of the best players in the region in Talana Hardy, possibly the best defender in the region Rickara Hughes and one of the best freshman in the region from last season Nykea Ikeard. I expect the Lady Storm to be one of the better teams in the region again but I believe they will be on the outside looking in when it comes to competing for the region championship.

They lose one of the best rebounders in the state in Farisia Hodge, a solid point guard in JaEricka Grubbs and shooter Mykalia Hebert. However they do return the 2nd best player in the region in Janiya Davis, swiss army knife Jaliyah Grubbs, a lightning quick guard Breon Oldham and a mountain in Zakyra Stallworth. The Lady Tigers will be one of the best teams in the region again this year. It should be a great trilogy between Hoptown and County for the district crown.

I agree but don't sleep on Christian County. They have added some new girls and have really came together since KiKi Radford took over. I still think the region runs through the 6th district. Webster County is the team to beat this year.

Lyon County will be a middle of the pack team in the 2nd region this year. My prediction is they just miss the region tournament in a competitive game against Livingston Central in the district.

Their youth movement should start trending upward now that those boys are juniors and seniors. I expect them to be much improved this season.
