Yeah, it's interesting that Trinity faced Carmel and Warren early on, who were both (especially Carmel) expected to be a step above Cathedral this year, and in reality, both those teams have not met expectations. I agree, Cathedral is playing better than both those teams, and is at least top 5, maybe top 3 in Indiana overall. Cathedral's offense had been rolling. I think they put up over 500 yards on Cincy St. X, before they squandered that lead. Meanwhile, Trinity D has been very solid...a great matchup of these 2 powerhouses. I'd be pretty surprised if it's not a one score game either way.

WC lost a lot off of last year's team, and then lost their starting QB less than a month before the season, who transferred to another school. They won a close game against conference rival Center Grove in week 1. Center Grove is typically a top 5-7 team in the state...however, they were missing their stud RB who ran for over 2,000 yards in both his Freshman and Sophomore season. Carmel was really expected to be the team to beat in Indiana this year, and with the way Trinity manhandled them, I would lean towards Trinity. The game being at Warren definitely makes it interesting though.

@newarkcatholicfan not to jump the gun on you, as you may share some thoughts later, but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on how you think Pioneer would fare against the two 3A teams, Evansville Memorial and West Lafayette. It was an odd year, in that Pioneer was clearly the best team in 1A and 2A, and some feel they would have made a lot of noise in 3A, as well. Those 3A teams were very, very solid though.

I've been, but it's been more than 10 years ago. Saw the legendary Bud Wright, who has been coaching for over 50 years at a 1A school, win his 8th state title. This year, the 1A game will likely be a blowout. Pioneer has a kid going to ND playing QB/S. He is a man amongst boys, and may be the best 1A player in state history. Warren Central/Carmel could be a big win for Warren, but they were seriously challenged by Center Grove last week, so who knows. The rest of the games have a chance to be good. I was planning to go, but my alma mater lost in 4A Semi-State to FW Dwenger, so those plans have changed. Hope you enjoy your time in Indy!

Never been in person, but I went to college in Tennessee, and remember watching Gerald Riggs, Jr. lead Red Bank (Chattanooga) to the state title in 2000. The championship game was played in a snowstorm...it was quite a spectacle.
